“It’s definitely got a climb, and we don’t hide the fact that it’s hilly, but what you go up you come back down,” event organizer Sean Pfister of IWeLife events said of the route that takes participants along a portion of Burnt Mountain on Highway 136. The route begins at Vineyard Way and heads down Highway 136 to the lower overlook, then back up Highway 136 past Fainting Goat, then back to the vineyard to finish.
IWeLife has organized numerous other running/fundraising events at establishments such as Reformation Brewery in Woodstock, and has events scheduled for 2020 including the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade 5K.
After runners complete the race on Burnt Mountain, they will enjoy a barbeque lunch, live music from The Shawn Spencer Band, and a glass of wine (as well as a commemorative glass) at Fainting Goat Vineyard as part of their entry fee. Participants also receive finisher medals and a long-sleeve commemorative shirt.
“Fainting Goat is a wonderful setting where people can congregate after, enjoy the views and music,” Pfister said. “It’s decorated for the holidays and has a nice vibe after you finish the race.”
The event will benefit Good Samaritan Health & Wellness Center’s JumpStart program, which teaches participants about cardiovascular health over a multi-week course.
The Fainting Goat 5K will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. with music and food lasting until noon. This is a rain or shine event. Outdoor tents and indoor space will be available. T-shirts are only guaranteed for online registrants, and while supplies last for people who sign up the day of the event. Visit www.IWeLife.com for more information and to register. Event is $40.
Fainting Goat Vineyard is located at 201 Vineyard Way, Jasper, Ga. 30143.
