The Pickens County Sportsman Club, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and the city of Jasper are teaming up again to bring a popular – and free – community event to town Thursday through Saturday.
Every year for three decades, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources has stocked Long Swamp (Cove) Creek with over 4,000 farm-raised trout. Hundreds of first-time fishers and more seasoned anglers turn out for a day
of family-friendly fun. Many people return every year for the event, which not only gets kids outdoors to fish, but which also allows seniors and disabled adults access to the creek on specific days.
Thursday, May 9 – Fishing for developmentally disabled adults.
Friday, May 10 - Fishing for pre-registered senior center facilities’ residents.
Saturday, May 11 – Fishing for kids under 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Saturday - the climax of the three days of fishing – participants will receive free hot dogs and chips on a first come, first serve basis until supplies last. Last year the club provided over 1,200 hot dogs.
The Pickens County Sportsman Club also thanks Pickens High School for providing transportation for the event.
