New mountain bike park topic at upcoming chamber breakfast

Public invited; mountain bike to be given away

One lucky person who attends the December Chamber of Commerce’s breakfast will win this mountain bike as a door prize. Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land’s executive director will talk about new bike trails in north Pickens.

Pickens County Chamber of Commerce breakfasts are typically reserved for members only, but this month the Chamber director felt the topic is of such interest to the community the event is open to the public.

“The Talking Rock Nature Preserve and its bike trails are a great benefit to Pickens County, and I want people to be informed about the park,” said Chamber Executive Director Gerry Nechvatal. “We invite people to come out and hear about this great new feature in our community.”

The Talking Rock Nature Preserve, located on more than 200 acres off Carnes Mill Road in north Pickens, is a project of Southeastern Trust for Parks and Land. It boasts three completed miles of mountain bike trails with six more on the way. The official opening date is January 2018.

STPAL Founder, Past President, and current Executive Director Bill Jones will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, Dec. 12 event. Breakfast begins at 7 a.m. The program begins at 7:30 a.m. and is held at Chattahoochee Technical College. Jones is a small business owner with a passion for parks and outdoor recreation. He particularly enjoys hiking with his dogs in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. His enjoyment of the recreation area was his inspiration for founding STPAL. He thinks every community needs a natural area for public recreation and environmental stewardship.

Among the door prizes for the December breakfast are a 27.5” Mongoose mountain bike, in honor of the new trail system. Nechvatal asks that any member of the public who wants to attend register ahead of time at Click on “calendar” on the homepage and find “Chamber Community Breakfast.” There you will find a link to register for the breakfast.
