Press Release from the Pickens County School System - The Pickens County School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Shane Purdy as Principal of Pickens High School. Mr. Purdy served as Principal of Jasper Middle School since 2014.
Mr. Purdy is a native of Rome, GA. He earned a Bachelor’s in English Education from Piedmont College and a Master’s of Health Science from the University of Alabama. Prior to being the Principal of Jasper Middle School, he

held a variety of leadership positions such as Assistant Superintendent at Lincoln County Schools, and Principal, Assistant Principal, and Athletic Director for Rabun County Schools. Mr. Purdy began his education career teaching AP English courses and serving as high school Department Chair and SAT Prep Course Advisor.
“The Board and I are extremely pleased to have Shane Purdy take the responsibility for leading the county’s flagship school. We know he will build upon the foundation in place and continue to set high expectations for current and future Dragons,” states Dr. Lula Mae Perry, Superintendent.
“I love seeing others succeed and serving those around me – starting with the students – they are the reason
we should be in this profession. I know teachers just want to teach. That's all I ever wanted to do when I taught
high school. One of my goals is to keep the art of teaching pure and productive for our teachers. I want them to
enjoy what they do and be passionate about doing it each day,” states Shane Purdy. “I believe in the adage ‘it
takes a village to raise a child’ and I pledge my commitment to continue to work hard with the community,
parents, students, and teachers as we all strive toward one common goal – to help students succeed in life. It
will take all of us working together, and I am excited about our future at PHS.”
