Roy Jordan

 

Roy Kenneth Jordan, 83, of Ball Ground, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Butch Roberts and Rev. Greg Long officiating.  

Kenneth was a member of Gospel Temple and the former owner and operator of Two Brothers Bar-B-Que. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Dale Jordan; and brother, Gene Jordan; he is survived by his fiance, Carolyn Austin Grogan; son, Randy Jordan (Lisa); granddaughter, Taylor Maybry (Taylor); brothers, Shorty Jordan and Dootle Jordan (Linda): several nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gospel Temple, 10733 Ball Ground Hwy, Ball Ground, GA 30107.

Donald Gravitt

 

Donald Eugene Gravitt, 81, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020 at his home.  He was born May 27, 1938 to Lee and Augusta Gravitt in Rockmart, Georgia. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, was a member of Sonoraville Masonic Lodge, and was a bailiff with the Gordon County Court System.

Don is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Gravitt of Calhoun; daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Glen Moody of Canton; grandchildren, Emily Johnson of Ranger, Tim and Ellie Moody of Fairmount, Leah Moody of Canton, Cade Johnson of Ranger; brother-in-law, William Cantrell of Jasper; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Ken Aaron of Jasper, Mary and Gerald Aaron of Jasper.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.  He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister.

Funeral Services will be held 3 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Sharptop Baptist Church with Reverend Glen Moody and Reverend Kenneth Kirk officiating. Interment will follow in the Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery with Brother Darrell Morris in charge.  

Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.

James Bannister

Mr. James Willie Bannister, 76, passed away at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain on March 2, 2020. 

Jim was born on August 21, 1943, in Marble Hill, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents, E.A. Bannister and Lila White Bannister, his first wife of 25 years, Connie Farmer Bannister, and brother, Charles Harold Bannister.

Jim retired as Senior Vice President of Manufacturing in 2010 after a service career of 33 years with Arylessence, Inc. of Marietta, Georgia.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Becky Whitfield Bannister of Kennesaw, GA; son, James (Andrea) Bannister of Temple, GA; daughter, Christy (Ronny) Wilkerson of Harrisburg, NC, grandchildren, Jordan Bannister of Pendleton, SC, Adam Wilkerson and Brooke Wilkerson of Harrisburg, NC, and Rachel Gross and Sam Gross of Kennesaw, GA; brother, Elijah (Helen) Bannister of Jasper, GA; sisters, Sue Bannister Lawson of Acworth, GA; Ina Lou Bannister Conley of Cumming, GA; and Martha Bannister and Howard Cook of Marietta, GA; sister-in-law, Willie Grace Fletcher Bannister of Ball Ground, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Jasper United Methodist Church, with visitation before the service at 10 a.m.

Patricia Jarrett

June 13, 1939 - February 26, 2020

 

Mrs. Patricia Jarrett, 80, of Tate, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at The Retreat at Jasper, Phoenix Senior Living Community.

Mrs. Jarrett is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karen Jarrett of Buford; daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Gary Moore of Talking Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Linda Westbrook of Flowery Branch; sister, Jackie Westbrook and Jerry Polk of Jackson, GA; grandchildren, Lindsie Moore Johnson and husband, Kyle Johnson, Trent Jarrett and Drake Jarrett; great-grandchildren, Abbie Reed, Kaye Johnson and Hensley Johnson.

Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Frank Jarrett and parents, Rev. A.B. and Tinie Westbrook. 

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Fairview Church in Ball Ground with Rev. Nathan Smith and Rev. Michael McPherson, officiating.

Interment was at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Adam Westbrook, Gary Jarrett, Gary Moore, Kyle Johnson, Trenton Jarrett and Drake Jarrett.

Elmer Rose

March 24, 1927 - February 26, 2020

Elmer J. "Pap" Rose, 92, of Jasper, GA went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary M. "Maggie" Rose; his parents, John P. and Eva Mae Witt Rose; four brothers, O'Dell, Van Doren, Victor and John Rose; two sisters, Velma Harman and Regina Rose.

Elmer was a devoted husband and a loving and caring father, always putting others before himself.

Elmer is a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard LST598 and a retired UMWA coal miner, but his favorite job was coaching baseball to the young men of the Welch Little League.

Survivors include his children, Beverly (Earl) Whiteley of Jasper, GA, Jackie (Rodney) Fly of Lyman, SC and Brenda Rose of Jasper, GA; grandchildren, Earl J (Jackie) Whiteley, Christopher (Candace) Fly and Amanda (Chase) Pope, great-grandchildren, Aubriell Whiteley, Xander, Wyatt Fly and Addison Pope, Abigail, Zackery and Luke Jenkins; special niece Sherrie (Shawn) Jenkins; sister, Laquetta (Marcus) Smith; brother, Ronnie (Margaret) Rose; various nephews and nieces; special caregivers, Doris Bryant, Shirley Hall, Jeanie Reavis and Kelly Webster; Compassus Hospice - Perri, Amanda and Debbie.

The funeral service was held at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel, Bluefield, WV on February 29th at 2 p.m.

Entombment was at Woodland Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Alzheimer's Association.

Ms. Joan Holden, 76, of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at her residence.

Ms. Holden is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Ruth Holden of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Stephen Cantrell of Jasper and Lynn and Randall Gilreath of Talking Rock; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Glenda Chapman of Nelson; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and Jackie Jarrett of Nelson; sisters, Louise Stokes of Canton and Hazel Stokes of Fort Valley; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Chapman, Rev. Steve Chadwick, Rev. Leroy Kelley, Rev. John Holloway and Rev. John Padgett, officiating.

Interment was at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

Pallbearers: Scott Jordan, Ronald Matthews, Anthony Matthews, Eben Matthews, Mark Eubanks, Ricky Eubanks, Harold Collier, Daryl Collier and Katie Hutson. Honorary pallbearer: Shane Popham.

Philip O'Bryant

February 19, 1953 - February 24, 2020

 

Mr. Philip O'Bryant, 67, of Jasper, passed away Monday, February 24, 2020 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Mr. O'Bryant is survived by his wife, Jane O'Bryant of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Mathew and Hannah O'Bryant of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Nancy O'Bryant of Cumming; several nieces and nephews.

Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Weldon and Evelyn O'Bryant and infant son, Philip Thomas O'Bryant.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home, with Rev. Stacy Smith and Rev. Jason Satterfield officiating.

Interment followed at Ophir Baptist Church. 

Pallbearers: Mathew O'Bryant, Josh O'Bryant, James Satterfield, Nick Holt, Greg Moss and Mark Fountain. Honorary pallbearers: Todd Coleman, Stanley Brown, Larry Jones, Joey Jones and Donald Allen.
