Kitty Ann Baldwin

Mrs. Kitty Ann Baldwin of Jasper, Georgia passed away on June 19, 2019.  She was the wife of Robert Eugene Baldwin. They shared almost 51 years of marriage together.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Eugene Baldwin and her son, Gordon Robert Baldwin; daughter-in-law, Melissa Anne Baldwin and grandson, Ridley Russell Baldwin of Alexandria, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Gordon Lee Mathis and Mrs. Mary Nelle Mathis of Chattanooga, Tennessee and her brother, Dr. William Frazier Mathis of Valdez, North Carolina.

Kitty Baldwin was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on October 11, 1946. She was a member of the Chattanooga City High Class of 1964. She attended Middle Tennessee State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1968 and her Master's degree in Reading Education in 1971. She started the elementary school reading program in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1970.  Kitty taught in school systems in Key West, Florida; Walker County, Georgia; Lebanon, Tennessee; Coweta County, Georgia; and Lincoln County, Georgia. She spent most of her career teaching for the Pickens County Board of Education from 1981-2008. She also taught various Sunday School classes at the First Baptist Church of Jasper, Georgia.

Kitty was a member and past president of the Beta Eta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, National Teaching Sorority, in addition to being a member of the Retired Educators of Georgia. She was also a member and served as chaplain of the General P. M. B. Young chapter of the U. D. C.

Kitty and her husband Bob enjoyed visiting national parks and historic sites around the United States. She also cared deeply for various dogs and cats over the years. She loved to tell stories and reminisce with family and friends, especially over a cup or two of coffee, always served black.

In retirement, Kitty enjoyed reading to the preschool students of the First Baptist Church of Jasper, Georgia. Additionally, she enjoyed seeing former students and showing pictures of her grandson Ridley, who hung the moon in her eyes. She will be greatly missed by her family.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Reverend Charlie Bogan officiating. Interment will follow in Coulter Memorial Cemetery in Chickamauga, Georgia. She will lie in state Monday at the First Baptist Church of Jasper from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Jasper First Baptist Church.

Jimmy Godfrey

 

Jimmy Leon Godfrey, age 73, of Jasper, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 in Smyrna, Georgia.  He was born January 28, 1946 to Herman and Helen Godfrey in Cherokee County.  

Jimmy proudly served in the Vietnam War from 1969 through 1970.  After he was discharged from the Army he worked in construction until his retirement.  Jimmy had a passion for fishing and a hobby of building and selling his bird houses.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Godfrey of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Alan Morris of Jasper; grandchildren, Lily Morris of Jasper and Luke Morris of Jasper.  He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Helen and Herman Godfrey.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Kathy Howard officiating.   Interment will follow in Lake Forest Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Monday, June 24, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, June 25, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

The family will accept flowers or you may make donations in Jimmy's honor to DAV Chapter 47 of the Disabled American Veterans in care of Michael O'Rear; 575 Philadelphia Drive; Jasper, Georgia  30143.

Jim Blankenship

 

James (Jim) Blankenship, 83, of Nelson, went home to be with the Lord on June 19, 2019. He was born August 1, 1935 in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Reverend Charles H. and Alice Tribune Blankenship.  He was in the Marine Corp from 1953 to 1959.  

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Judy C. Blankenship; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Dawn Blankenship of Statham, John and Stacie Eubanks of Canton; daughters, Denise Miller of Lewisburg, Tennessee, Karla Lunsford of Ball Ground; grandchildren, Tanya Fore (Jason), Ryan Miller, Blake and Taylor Eubanks; great-grandchildren, Delaney and Mackenzie Fore; sister, Edna Jean Long of Baldwin, Florida; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Blankenship of Cumming; special cousin, Dorcas Gallimore of Arlington, Tennessee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Susan Armstrong.

After retirement from years in the construction business, Jim continued to pursue his life-long passion for woodworking.  He made beautiful bowls, swings and useful pieces of furniture.  He was a member of  Nelson Baptist Church.  His beautiful, strong voice blessed the congregation during many services.  He will always  be fondly remembered for his moving rendition of How Great Thou Art.

Jim was affectionately known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as PawPaw.  While battling cancer and declining health over the last several years, his youngest grandchildren, Blake and Taylor, spent countless hours by his side or in his lap loving on him or helping their grandmother (they fondly call her "Honey") to care for him.

Jim's funeral service was held at Nelson Baptist Church on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 1 p.m. with Reverend Leroy Kelley, Reverend Jimmy Andrews, and John Eubanks officiating.

Reva Cloud

 

Reva Jean Cloud, 76, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Pruitt Health in Jasper. Mrs. Cloud was born December 22, 1942 in Dehart Kentucky.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Greg Moore of Dahlonega and daughter, Melissa Mabry of Jasper. Seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd B. Cloud and son, Michael B. Cloud, Sr. 

A graveside service for Mrs. Cloud was held at 4 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019 at Lake Forest Memorial Park.
