Gary Cochran

 

Gary Cochran, 71, of Nelson, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Northside Hospital Cherokee. 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Nelson Baptist Church with Rev. Leroy Kelley, Rev. Junior McTaggart and Rev. Jimmy Andrews officiating. 

Gary was a member and deacon at Nelson Baptist Church. He was a former  volunteer Firefighter at Nelson Fire Department and a former Assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. Gary loved his church and singing in the choir. He enjoyed kids and was a animal lover. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, he was their "Angel on Earth." 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dub and Ora Faye Cochran; brothers, Jackie Cochran and Tony Cochran; survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sue Cochran; children, Jamie Cochran  (Billie Jo), Karrie Cochran and Andrew Cochran (Ashley); grandchildren, Cawl Cochran, Terri Sioux Cochran, Ava Cochran and Adrian Cochran; great-grandchild, Reagan Cochran;   

siblings, 

Herman Cochran, Danny Cochran,

 Kenny Cochran,

 Byron Cochran, 

Randy Cochran and Dorothy Russell; granddogs, Ellie and Sophia; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley Patterson

Shirley Evans Patterson, 72, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday March 21, 2019 at the Woodstock Nursing Home following a period of declining health.

Born December 10, 1946 in Forsyth County to the late Roscoe and Minnie Evans, she lived in Dawson County most of her life.  Shirley did live a few years in Pickens County and was formerly employed by Lexington Components in Jasper.  She attended Juno Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy T. Patterson; and brothers, James Evans, and Vernie Evans.

Surviving are her sisters and brother in law, Annie and Billy Roland, Dawsonville; Tilda Eler Hopgood, Woodstock; brothers and sister in law, Cleve and Mildred Evans, Dawsonville, Bige Evans, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tammy and Matt Butler, Jessica Patterson; a special niece, Jane Lewis, Acworth; and a number of other nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Rev. Tommy Weldy will officiate.  Interment followed in the Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

Wilma West

 

Mrs. Wilma Jean West, 83, of Jasper, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019 at her home. Mrs. West was born October 16, 1935 to Homer and Roberta Johnson in Fairmount. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Max West Jr. of Jasper, Alex and JoAnn West of Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Atkins Payne of Jasper, Maxine and Johnny Parrish of Jasper, Tina and Randy Pinyan of Jasper; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Johnson of Alabama; sisters, Sue Gibson of Fairmount and Margie Nell Johnson of McDonough.  Several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max West Sr.; brothers, Hubert Johnson, Edward Johnson, Thurston Johnson; and sister, Betty Keener.

The funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2019 at Salem Baptist Church with Reverend Buck Parker, Reverend Bryan Prance, and Reverend Frankie Ellis officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

The family accepted flowers.

Paul Bennett

Paul Dorsey Bennett, 54, of Ball Ground passed away Thursday, March 21, 2019.  He was born July 25, 1964 to Jewell Milford Bennett and Barbara Gerrie Hamby in Gainesville, Georgia.

He is survived by his wife, Nacie Bennett of Ball Ground; children, Kaleigh Bennett of Ball Ground, Zane Bennett of Ball Ground; father, Milford Bennett of Cumming; brother, Allen and Amanda Bennett of Dahlonega; sister, Robin and Scott Allen of Dawsonville.  Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mr. Bennett will remain in the care of the staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory as he is cremated.  A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Wayne Jewell

 

Randall Wayne Jewell, 69, of Jasper, Georgia passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at Northside Hospital Cherokee in Canton.  He was born September 7, 1949 to Linnis Lyndell and Anna Erma Jewell in Dayton, Tennessee. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was an active member of Jasper United Methodist Church, a member of Pickens Star Lodge #220, the American Legion Post 149, and was very active in the Tater Patch Players.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Jewell of Jasper; daughter, Karensa Goodman of Jasper; grandchildren, Riley Goodman and Chiara Simoneschi; brothers, Gary Jewell of Kingsville, Missouri,  Kenneth Jewell of Grayson, Georgia; sister, Anna Susie Craig of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home.

Phyllis Hill

 

Miss Phyllis N. Hill, 68, of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Rudy Tribble officiating.  Interment followed in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.  

Miss Hill was a member of Tate United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She loved watching T.V., collecting stuffed animals and being around babies.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Nina Hill and one brother, Doug Hill. Survivors include her brother, David Hill; three nieces; several great nieces and great nephews; numerous cousins and many beloved friends.
