Obituaries for June 2, 2015; David Brents, Catherine Moss Adams, Louise Richards, Marvin Foshea

David Brents
    David Otto Brents, 71, of Jasper, passed away Sunday May 29, 2016 at his residence from complications due to cancer.
    Mr. Brents was born on September 16, 1944 in Mobile, Alabama to Mary Kate and William C. Brents. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, Alabama. After high school he joined the United States Marine Corps where he fought during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Marine Corps he met and married Joyce Marie Shaffer in 1968.  He later joined the Dekalb County Police Department where, over the course of 25 years (1973 to 1998), he made his way to become Deputy Director of Public Safety over Communications. During his tenure with Dekalb County he designed and implemented world leading 9-1-1 systems. This led him to be invited by several U.S. States and the countries of Great Britain and China to come and speak with their police forces about 9-1-1 Communications Systems and also to be awarded a plaque in the Smithsonian for "Excellence in 9-1-1 Communications Systems". Upon retiring from the police force he joined the Gwinnett County School System where he worked at Lilburn Elementary School as their Technical Support Technician for 12 years (1998 to 2010). He studied Electrical Engineering at Southern Polytechnic State University and later went on to teach math and electronics evening classes there. He was licensed in 1991 by the FCC as a Commercial Radio Operator for repairing radios and televisions, which he did throughout his lifetime, as well as collecting vintage tube type radios. He was an avid admirer and collector of classic American cars and a lover of film noir movies of which he held an extensive collection. He cherished animals as companions and kept quite a few during his lifetime.
    He is survived by his wife, Joyce Brents of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Tim & Jennifer Brents of Jasper; two grandchildren, ten brothers and four sisters.
    Visitation will be held Friday, June 3 from 7-9 p.m. The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 4, 2016 from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home.

Catherine Moss Adams
November 13, 1937 - May 24, 2016

    Ms. Catherine Moss Adams,  78, of Canton, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Sonshine Manor Personal Care Home.
    Ms. Adams is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip & Brenda Moss of Talking Rock, Greg & Donna Moss of Jasper, Marty & Shelty Moss of Talking Rock, and Benjamine & Gilda Moss of Canton; daughter, Neva Kay Moss of Ball Ground; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and special friend and caretaker: Starr & Mike Timmons. Preceded in death by one son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie & Mollie Moss.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday May 27 from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Revs. Pete Hughes and Greg Bryant officiating. Interment at Mica Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers served: Phillip Moss, Greg Moss, Marty Moss, Brandon Moss, Charles Jones, and Chris Wilkie; honorary pallbearers: Roy Moss, Blake Moss, and Ramsley Stone.

Louise Richards
May 5, 1941 - May 23, 2016

    Mrs. Louise Richards, 75, of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, May 23, 2016 at her residence.
    Mrs. Richards is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael & Melissa Richards of Ludville Community, Marshell Richards of Ludville Community, Mitchell & Dena Richards of Marble Hill, and Tracy & Christie Richards of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia & Michael Taylor of Ellijay; brother, James Rich, sister, Joyce Fowler, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral service was held at 1 p.m.  Wednesday, May 25, 2016 from the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Hightower officiating. Interment at Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers served: Jessie Wyman, Jayson Taylor, Chase Shirey, Jody Fowler, Michael Taylor, and Gary Richards.
    The family accepted flowers or make donations to Cagle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.

Marvin Foshea
    In loving memory of Marvin John Foshea (Pops), 77, of Hubert, North Carolina, passed away at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation in Wilmington, North Carolina on April 28th, 2016. Marvin was born in Rutland, Vermont on May 5, 1938 and the only child to the late John Foshea and Ethel Mcgee, both of Rutland, Vermont.
    Marvin served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1962 and proudly set sail on the USS Saratoga.
    He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Anne Marie Sears; four children, Heidi Demand and John Foshea of Rutland, Vermont and Annette Sears and Tara Sears, both of Jasper; six grandchildren, James Perlee of Rutland, Vermont, Page Sears and Cory Johnson of Hubert, North Carolina, Brandy, Amber and Jordan Garrett of Jasper. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Aiden Kyle Sears and Aspen Marie Sears of Hubert, North Carolina.
    The commencement service for the cremation burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 6th at the Georgia National Cemetery in Cherokee County. The service will host a military honors session. Family welcomes visitation of friends.
