Pets of the Week for July 9, 2015

ASHLEY EVANS

We hope you all are enjoying your summer. Here are some reminders about how to keep your pets safe in the summer heat.

•    Never leave your pet in an unattended vehicle (even with the car running or windows down)
•    Limit exercise on hot days. Go early in the morning or late in the evening instead.
•    Provide ample shade and water.
•    Don’t rely on a fan to “cool” your pet off. Did you know pets sweat primarily through their feet?

If you’re in the market for a new companion, please visit the Pickens Animal Shelter or the Pickens Animal Rescue to find your forever friend. See you soon!

Volunteering is a great way to help out your local shelter and rescue! There are a wide variety of ways you can help even if you can’t be at the shelter or rescue regularly. Please inquire directly with the Pickens Animal Shelter (706-253-8983) or Pickens Animal Rescue (706-692-2772) to see how you can help. Donations are always needed. Traditional identification for pets (tags and collars) is a thing of the past! ID tags can often become hard to read or fall off of the collar but microchips last for the lifetime of the pet. You and your pet belong together. Microchips can be purchased at your veterinarian’s office. Please micro-chip your pet today! Donations are always needed at the Pickens Animal Shelter and Pickens Animal Rescue. Feel free to drop off any regularly used items such as dog food, cat food, toys, treats, leashes, collars, cleaning supplies, etc. Thanks in advance!
