Lois Poole
May 30, 1920 - June 25, 2016

    Ms. Lois Irene Poole, 95, of Jasper, passed away at Grandview Nursing Home on Saturday June 25th, 2016. Lois was born on May 30th, 1920 to Dolph Sherman and Rora Mae Moss Poole. Ms. Poole spent several years at the Roosevelt Center for the Blind in Warm Springs, which enabled her to work at Pickens Technical School from the early 1970s until the late 1980s.
    She is survived by her sisters, Betty and Ray Ferrell of Jasper, Hazel Mullinax of Jasper, Cora Bell Chastain of Gainesville; and brother, Charlie Poole of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Bob, Lanier and Leo Poole; and nephew, Charles Poole.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 27 at County Line Baptist Church with Reverend Jess Posey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.  Ms. Poole was a charter member of County Line Baptist Church.

George Clark
    Mr. George Lamar Clark,  68, of Jasper, Georgia passed on Sunday evening, June 19, 2016, at his residence.
    Mr. Clark was born April 2, 1948 in Jasper, Georgia to his late parents George Lamar and Louvelle Gayton Clark. He was a member of Arbor Hill Baptist Church, was formerly employed by Pickens County as a maintenance worker, and also sold produce. He is preceded in death by his wife, Inez Hooper Clark, and sisters, Velma Wood, Lillie Florence and Evon Clark.
    He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Jody and Angel Clark and Nathan and Norma Beasley, all of Ellijay, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Chris Pittman of Ranger, GA; 8 Grandchildren; 2 Great grandchildren; brothers, Rommy and Cindy Clark of Waleska, GA, Jimmy and Sue Clark of Jasper, GA and Randy and Jackie Reed of Waleska, GA; Sister-in-law and spouse Shirley and Ricky McDowell of Jasper, GA also survive.
    Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 24th at the Arbor Hills Baptist Church in Jasper, GA with Rev. Mike Bice officiating. Music and vocals will be by the Bice girls and the Arbor Hills Baptist Church Choir. Pallbearers were Alex Pittman, Christopher Pittman, Dustin Lingerfelt, Rocky McDowell, Ricky McDowell, and Gary Matthews. Carroll Parker will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
    In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Jody Clark at 4446 Roundtop Road, Ellijay, GA 30540 in memory of Mr. Clark.

Bettie Gilreath
March 21, 1941 – June 21, 2016

    Bettie Sue Gilreath, 75, of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.  She was born March 21, 1941 to Clyde and Grace Gilreath in Dawson County.
    She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Rachel Susan and David  Wells of Jasper; son, Billy David Goss of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Danny Joe and Patty Goss of Platka, Florida; grandchildren, Mattie Elizabeth Goss Hollar of Cumming, Gauge Goss of Holiday, Florida, Lacey Danielle Goss of Platka, Florida; step-grandson, Ryan Collins of Platka, Florida; and brother, Clyde Gilreath, Jr. of Dawsonville.  Several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends also survive.
    A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Ben Whitmore
January 24, 1940 – June 23, 2016

    Mr. Ben Frank Whitmore,  76, of Jasper, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016 at his home. Ben was born January 24, 1940 to Barney Lee and Ellen Whitmore in Jasper. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.
    He is survived by his wife, Nancy Whitmore of Jasper; daughter, Kelly Whitmore of Jasper; son, Samuel Nathan Whitmore of Jasper; sister, Peggy Ray of Jasper.  Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Meadows officiating.  Interment will follow at Jasper City Cemetery with Military Honors by Pickens DAV Chapter 47 and Masonic Graveside by Pickens Star Lodge #220. 
    The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Georgia Masonic Children’s Home through Pickens Star Lodge #220.

Annie Jones
April 17, 1922 - June 25, 2016

    Mrs. Annie Agnes Jones, 94, of Talking Rock, passed away at her home on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Annie was born on April 17, 1922 to James Biege and Violet O’Shields Wooten.
    She is survived by her husband, Clarence Jones of Talking Rock; son, Charles and Jackie Grant of Jasper; granddaughter, Niki Eubanks; great-grandchildren, Darla Satterfield, Cody Grant, and Kayla Eubanks; great-great-grandchildren, Grant and Peyton Satterfield and Addy and Cole Grant.  Several nieces and nephews also survive. 
    Mrs. Jones was preceeded in death by her parents, Biege and Violet Wooten; sisters, Ila May Stanfield, Vergie Lou Bennett, and Mami Lee Widenhouse; grandson, Tony Grant.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Autry Dean and Reverend Randy Weaver officiating.  Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Randall Lawson
    Mr. Randall Steve Lawson, 61, of Lithia Springs, formerly of Jasper, passed away Thursday June 16, 2016 at his residence.
    Mr. Lawson is survived by his mother, Lillian Lawson of Bent Tree in Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Dillon & Sue-Ping Lawson of San Fransisco, CA and Graham & Anya Lawson of Smyrna.
    Preceded in death by his brother Roger Harold Lawson and father Bill Lawson.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with interment following at Mica Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were Barry Butler, Charles Stargel, Curtis Stargel, Gary Anderson, Ryan Woolridge and T.W. Roberts.

James Boyd
October 16, 1944 - June 20, 2016

    Mr. James "Jimbo" Boyd,  71, of Jasper, passed away Monday June 20, 2016 at Wildwood Health Care.
    Mr. Boyd is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, John & Kathy Boyd of Jasper; nieces and nephews, Rachel & Kim Jones, Brandy Mann, Mitchell & Michele Boyd; great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends of Burnt Mountain Center and Wildwood Health Care.
    Mr. Boyd is preceded in death by his mother Callie B. Boyd.
    The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Cantrell, Chaplain Roland Nelson, and Monroe Flowers officiating. December 15, 1950 - June 25, 2016

    Ms. Nina Cowart, 65, of Dawson County, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Chatsworth Health Care.
    Ms. Cowart is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Loye & Susie Cowart of Dawson County; sisters and brother-in-law, Juanita & Roger Robinson of Dawson County and Eula Jean Reynolds of Dawson County; and several nieces and nephews.
    The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Dawson County with Revs. Clyde Boling and Rodney Pilcher officiating. Interment at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery. Darlene Caron
    It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Darlene Beverly Caron (Née) Gordon, 80, of Jasper GA. on Sunday 26 of June 2016.
    Much loved mother, grandmother and wife of the late Robert (Bob) Paul Caron. Survived by her three children and their families, Michael and Anne (Vancouver, BC, Robert and Kim (Marble Hill, GA), Lisa and Shane (Nelson, New Zealand).
    Sadly missed 'Grandma' to Stephanie, Leah, Shannon, Jonathan, Giselle and
Tate.
    A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Claude Allen
    Claude William Allen, age 95 of Canton, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2016 from complications of a heart attack.
    He was a WWII fighter pilot and a retired captain at Republic Airlines. The funeral was held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from the chapel at Darby Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Georgia National Cemetery. 
    He is preceded in death by hisfirst wife Barbara Allen, second wife Elaine Allen, son Dave Allen, brother Dalton Allen, and sister Clara Rivers.  He is survived by his son, Lee (Aurea) Allen of Fayetteville; his stepson, Edward (Schynell) Bragg of Chattanooga, TN.; and his stepdaughter, Susan Arp of Canton. Four grandchildren also survive and many nephews and nieces too numerous to name.
    The caring staff of Darby Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.

Elene Bryant
April 15, 1935 – June 28, 2016

    Mrs. Elene Evans Bryant,  81, of Jasper, passed away at her home Tuesday, June 28, 2016.  She was born to Grady and Elberta Evans on April 15, 1935.
    She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Ricky Kirk of Jasper; sister, Veneda Stokes of Canton; grandchildren, Wesley and Kelly Kirk of Jasper; Seth and Pamela Kirk of Talking Rock; great-grandchildren, Dylan Romine, Zoe Kirk, Evan Kirk, Lane Kirk, and Nathan Kirk.  Several nieces, nephews and other family members also survive.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Bryant.
    The funeral service was held at  2 p.m., Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend James Thompson and Reverend Kenneth Kirk officiating. Interment followed in the Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.

    Mrs. Louise Davidson, 102, of Jasper passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Cameron Hall Ellijay.  She was born December 25, 1913 to Charles Durbin and Anna Belle Lee in Connellsville, Pennsylvania.  She was married 78 years to Raymond Eugene Davidson.
    Mrs. Davidson is survived by daughters, Annette Rae Brooks of Woodstock, Coral Louise Shaull of California, Carolyn and Jim Cantrell of Marble Hill; grandchildren, Daniel Heath Greggs, Edward Ray Greggs, Terrell Cantrell; great-grandchildren, Brian Thomas Shaull, Kristin Rae Shaull, David Michael Shaull, Marlaine Elizabeth Greggs, Shawn Michael Greggs; and great-great-grandchild, Cameron Greggs.

Helen Leatherman
    Helen Fowler Leatherman, 73, of Jasper, Georgia has entered into rest peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
    A graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Lake Forest Memorial Park in Jasper, Georgia.  
    Helen was a loving and dedicated wife and mother.  She is predeceased by her husband, John Edward Leatherman and her parents, James Clayburn and Carolyn Fowler. 
    She is survived by her brother, Cleve Fowler and his wife, Nancy Fowler; niece and nephew, Kelly and Matthew.  Also her daughters and their families:  Lisa Leatherman Cowart, partner, Brian Cason, grandchildren, Katie and Caleb Cowart; and Lorrie Leatherman Mobley, husband, Thomas Mobley and grandchildren, Owen and Trenton Gambrell and Sawyer and Aiden Mobley.

    Mrs. Vellenoweth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce & Everardo Espinosa of Jasper, Amy & Kevin Puckett of Canton, and Sheri Brown of Adairsville; grandchildren, Candi Schray, Bethany White, Clinton Baucum, Kristin Hughes, Jonathan Walker, and Alex Puckett; and 4 great-grandchildren.
    A graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2016 at Hinton Cemetery.

    She is survived by sons, Joey Vansant of Hinton and Jacob Vansant of Hinton; brother and sister-in-law, Butch and Marsha Brendel of Hinton; grandchildren, Taylor Vansant, Landon Vansant, Leah Vansant, Joseph Vansant; niece and nephew, Stephanie and Mark Owens.

    Mrs. Mary Lee Harrison, 77, of Jasper, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Grandview Healthcare Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Pat Harrison.
    Survivors include children, Amelia Ray Harrison Cudney (Lester) of Jasper, Nancy Jean Harrison Kravchenko (Pete) of Dahlonega, James Wesley “Jim” Harrison of Jasper; 12 grandchildren, Phillip Wesley Sperin, Lauren Heicha Sperin, Michael Patrick Kravchenko, Harrison Lee Kravchenko, Patrick Joseph Harrison, Mary Elizabeth Harrison, Andrew James Harrison, John Paul Harrison, Killian Pio Harrison, Teresa Anne Harrison, Catherine Margaret Harrison, and Stephen Augustine Harrison; great-granddaughter, Madelyne “Madie” Sperin; sister, Nancy Lou Preston of Florida; and brother, James E “Jim” Covert of Florida.  Other relatives also survive.
    Funeral Services were held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Jasper First Baptist Church with Reverend Greg Pope officiating. Interment followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park.

James Taudte
May 14, 1946 – July 7, 2016

    Mr. James Ernest Taudte died at his home in Ball Ground on the morning of July 7, 2016 of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Taudte was a retired Georgia CPA, who spent most of his career in private practice. He served in various capacities in the Georgia Accounting Association and the Georgia Society of CPAs. Early in his career he had worked for The Coca-Cola Company and Windham-Brannen CPAs in Atlanta. He was a graduate of the University of Florida and Georgia State University, where he earned his master’s degree in professional accountancy.
    Mr. Taudte was born in Columbus, Ohio May 14, 1946, and moved with his family to Florida as a small child. He grew up in Sarasota and was a proud graduate of Riverview High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Taudte.
    He is survived by his beloved four children, Rosie Wigington (Allen) of Jasper, Jeca Taudte (Stephen Totilo) of Brooklyn, New York, John Taudte of Roswell, and Mary Taudte of Roswell; two grandchildren, Kate Wigington and Jack Wigington of Jasper. Mr. Taudte was a man who worked hard to understand God’s will, and while not always successful, never doubted God’s grace.
    A memorial service was held Monday, July 11, 2016 at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend John Wolfe and Reverend Greg Meadows officiating.  In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Taudte’s body was cremated.

    Jeff Adams passed away July 5, 2016. Jess is survived by his wife, Ann Adams; son, Devon Adams; his father, Gale England; mother, Sylvia Shaw; sister, Rebecca Joos of Jasper; brothers, Nathan England and Jody England; and sister, Deborah Northcutt. Jeff is also survived by many nieces, nephews, brother and sister-in-laws, and friends that he held dear to his heart.
    In life Jeff lived the life of a good Christian, loving and helping all and any that he could. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed sharing every moment in one of the best stories you could ever hear. We can find peace that he is hunting the giant timbers and fishing the crystal clear waters of heaven with passed loved ones. If there is one thing Jeff would want everyone to know it would be that God forgives and as His children we should too. Susie Chester
    Susie Lee Chester, 87, of Dawsonville passed away Monday July 11, 2016 at Pruitt Health in Jasper following a period of declining health.
    Born March 25, 1929 to the late Earnest and Stella Mae Arrendale, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Susie was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and worked for a number of years at Amicalola Falls Lodge and Forrest Hills Resort. A loving mother and grandmother she was also preceded in death by her husband, L.B. Chester; sons, Jerry Chester, Jackie Chester, Scotty Chester; daughter, Carolyn Massey; granddaughter, Jill Kendall; brothers, Joe Arrendale, Seldon Arrendale.
    Surviving are her daughters and sons in law, Belinda and Steve Lowe, Jasper, Renee and Steve Haywood, Dawsonville, Kenny Massey, Jasper; daughter in law, Mary Chester, Dawsonville; brother and sisters in law, Cecil and Joyce Arrendale, Dahlonega, Berry Jo Arrendale, Dawsonville, Dora Arrendale, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Anita, Tina, Penny, Chelsey, Chris, Donna, Jesse, Carly; several great grandchildren; a number of other relatives.

    Mrs. Alice Faye Blackwell, 75, of Ranger, Georgia, departed this life Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at her daughter’s residence surrounded by her loving family.  Alice was born August 1, 1941 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, a daughter of the late John Floyd and Eva Rouse Williams.

    Mr. James Billy Hyde, 80, of Jasper, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.  James was born November 6, 1935 to William and Cleo Murphy Hyde in Jasper.
    He is survived by wife, Fairy Hyde of Jasper; niece, Trena Vick (William) of Jasper; caregiver, Troy Padgett of Jasper.  Several nieces and cousins also survive.
    The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Banks and Reverend Billy Dodson officiating. Interment followed at Clear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with a Masonic Graveside Service.

    Ina Ruth Stanfield, 87, of Talking Rock, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Canton Nursing Center in Canton.  Ruth was born February 26, 1929 to John and Amy Bell Wigington in Talking Rock. 
    She is survived by children, John Stanfield of Ball Ground, Deborah and Leon Gay of Canton, Casey Childers of Canton; sister-in-law, Pat Denson of Talking Rock; grandchildren, William Gay, Rebekah Gay, Seth Stanfield, Cade Stanfield; nieces, Sondra Jones, and Jackie Pool. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. “Bill” Stanfield and brother, W.H. Wigington.

Ralph Francis
    Ralph McCoy Francis, 90, of Jasper, Georgia; and formerly of Marble Hill, MO; passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at the Northside Hospital in Canton, Georgia.
    He was born February 26, 1926 in Grassy, Missouri; son of William Lorance and Emma Elizabeth Patterson Francis. He and Neoma Bohnsack were united in marriage on March 15, 1946 and she passed away on December 10, 1992. He later married Nora Davis in March 1993.
    Ralph was a teacher who began his career in one-room schools, former Bollinger County Tax Collector and worked for Western Auto as a Salesmen for several years in St. Louis.  He was a member of the Church of Christ Church in Jasper, Georgia.
    Survivors include his wife, Nora; sons, Mick (Susan) Francis of Barnhart, MO; Bob Francis of Imperial, MO; daughters, Sue (Mike) McGovern of St. Charles, MO, Penny (Dave) Schirmer of Cherryville, MO, Kaye (Tim) See of Desoto, MO, Terry (Steve) Boehm of Ballwin, MO; Jerry (Carol) Davis, Jack (Helen) Davis, Mary (Rusty) King and Elizabeth Wright, all of Georgia; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
    Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Glen, Claude, Henry, Raymond, and Gene; sisters, Oma Phillips, Ruby Reitman, Ruth Teeters Miller, Pearl Francis and daughter-n-law Linda.
    The funeral service was held Monday, July 11, 2016 at 12 p.m. with Robby Francis and Gayle Francis officiating. Burial followed in Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery near Marble Hill, MO.

    Mrs. Aimee Southerland Parks, 100, of Ellijay, died Wednesday July 20, 2016.
    Mrs. Parks was born July 8, 1916, in Pickens County, the daughter of the late Columbus Jasper and Alice Carroll Southerland. She was a homemaker and member of the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Her Husband, Henry J. Parks, Sr., sons, Buster and Ray Parks, sisters, Charlsie Lewis, Willie Fay Jones, Jewell Sanders, Magie Gable, Gladys Young, brothers, Grady, C.J., Preston and Homer Southerland preceded her in death.
    Survivors include, sons and daughters-in-law, Ed and Linda Parks, Rev. Wallace and Carole Parks, Johnny and Debbie Parks, all of Ellijay, Jim and Susan Parks, Jasper, Billy and Jennifer Parks, Rome; daughters and sons-in-laws, Sue and Robert Walker, Peggy Mullins, all of Jasper, Brenda and Ted Pylant, Jonesboro; brother, Columbus Junior, Southerland, FL; and sister, Odeen Padgett, Canton; 25 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
    Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Burgess and Rev. Brondy Davis officiating. Music was by Ronald and Linda Hyde, Thelma Champion, Angie Ringwalt. Pallbearers were: Greg Parks, Mickey Walker, Jesse Parks, Michael Parks, Richie Parks and Barry Parks. Interment was in the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church cemetery.

    David “Ted” Quinton, 72, of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.  Ted was born February 2, 1944 to Truman and Ina Lou Mosley Quinton in Talking Rock.
    He is survived by wife, Nedene Quinton of Talking Rock; son, David Quinton (Misty) of Talking Rock; step-daughter, Joann Henderson of Jasper; sisters-in-law, Clara Quinton of Jasper, Dorothy Quinton of Jasper, Doris Walker of Jasper, Addline Hart of Jasper; grandchildren, Samantha Ann, Emily, Caitlyn; three step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 
    He was preceded in death by wife, Dortha Lee Quinton; step-daughter, Debbie House; great-grandson, Grahm Michael.
    The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Talking Rock Baptist Church with Reverend Kenneth Kirk and Reverend Rembert Hancock officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

April 23, 1927 – July 25, 2016

    Bonnie Ray, 89, of Jasper, passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at home. She was born April 23, 1927 to Harley and Hattie Hamrick in Pickens County.
    4-H was a very important part of Bonnie’s life. She was involved from the time she was a child until just a few years ago. She was a District Volunteer Leader and a State Volunteer Leader for the organization. She was an active member of Hinton United Methodist Church and the Hospital Board.
    Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Ray. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melvina and Ron Carlan of Jasper; granddaughter, Beth and Corey Watson of Talking Rock; great-grandchildren, Colin Watson of Talking Rock, Conner Watson of Talking Rock.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.
    The funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 27 at Hinton United Methodist Church with Reverend Jerry Gleason, Reverend Jim Schlict, Reverend Sharon Watkins, and State Representative Rick Jasperse officiating. Interment will be at Hinton Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Larry Johnson, Rusty Johnson, Brian Wallace, Chris Wallace, Bill Eubanks, Joe Thompson, Allen Wigington, and Brooks Tate.
