Mrs. Wilhemenia Carney (Pud) Peterson, age 88 of Nelson, Ga., passed at the Woodstock Nursing & Rehab Center in Woodstock early Sunday morning Jan. 10, 2010.
Survivors include her daughter, Trudy P. Cox, Canton; sisters, Claudine Hamby, Nelson, and Margie Cole, Marietta; brother-in-law, John Champion, Woodstock; and sister-in-law, Francis Carney, Nelson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A homegoing celebration was held Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. from Nelson Baptist Church with the Revs. LeRoy Kelly and Steve Chadwick officiating. Interment followed in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery with George Armstrong, John Eubanks, Jim Blankenship, Lowell Clute, Jeff Cantrell and Kevin Lunsford serving as pallbearers. Mildred Kiker Watkins, age 93 of Maryville, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Colonial Hills Nursing Center.
She was born in Blue Ridge, Ga., the third of 12 children, to Edward Arthur Kiker and Lou Ann Poe Kiker. Her husband, Joe Thomas Watkins, preceded Mildred in death.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Joe Ann and John R. Wilkinson, Maryville; and grandchildren, John M. Wilkinson, Charlotte, N.C., Mary K. Wilkinson-Church and husband David Church, Milwaukee, Wi. She is also survived by sister, Lillie Hart; and brother, Grady Kiker, both of Columbia, S.C., and several nieces and nephews in Georgia and South Carolina.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday from McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Mantooth and Dr. Howard Olive officiating. Mr. Gene McBee, age 69 of Calhoun, died Friday evening, Jan. 15, 2010 in Gordon Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. McBee was born in Gordon County on May 4, 1940, the son of the late Lee and Myrtle Sisson McBee. For the greater part of his adult life he was employed by Meadowbrook Dairy as a route salesman and later retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a man who loved being with his family and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. McBee enjoyed the outdoors and gardening was his favorite hobby. He was a member of New Town Baptist Church and the Coosawattee Lodge #306 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Stephens McBee, to whom he was married for 52 years; daughter and son-in-law, Lynn McBee and Eddie Brannon; granddaughter, Heather Brannon Hamilton and husband William; grandson, Matt Brannon and wife Dee Dee; great-grandson, Brooks Brannon; two great-granddaughters, Carson Hamilton and Libby Brannon, all of Calhoun; sisters, Grethel Blankenship, Resaca, Morene Arnold and husband Sam, Rome, and Patty Barton and husband David, Calhoun; and brothers, Johnny McBee and wife Dell, Resaca, and Larry (Buck) McBee and wife Betty, Calhoun.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 17 from New Town Baptist Church with the Rev. William Roberts officiating. Music was by Kenny Seabolt. Interment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Park with the Rev. John Bearden officiating. Pallbearers were: Michael Stephens, Jeff and Ricky McBee, Jamie Barton, Ronnie Blankenship and Troy Casey. Mrs. Annie Lee Moss, age 89 of Hinton, passed away at Southern Traditions Nursing Home Friday, Jan. 15, 2010.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Virgil Chastain, Jasper; and sisters, Judy Stewart, Hinton, and Mary Lou Brinson, Arden, N.C. Eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Moss was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Moss; and sons, Lamar and Eddie Moss.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 17 from Hinton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Schlicht officiating. Interment followed in Hinton Community Cemetery. Mrs. Opal Chastain, age 96 of Jasper, passed away at Wildwood Health Care Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 13, 2010.
Mrs. Chastain is survived by her sister, Eleese Chastain, Talking Rock. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Chastain; and brothers, Leonard, Paul, Avery and Oren Davis.
The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 15 from County Line Baptist Church with the Revs. Jess Posey and Larry Eubanks officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lula Chumley age 83 of Jasper, passed away at Wildwood Health Care Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bud and Pat Chumley, Donnie and Shelia Chumley, Lawrence and Jann Chumley and Randy and Becky Chumley, all of Jasper, Charlie and Sue Chumley Marble Hill, Johnny and Sue Chumley, Talking Rock, and Ronnie and Joyce Chumley, Tate; daughters and sons-in-law, Bernice and Jimmy Fountain, Jasper, and Vernet and Johnny Jarrett, Tate; brothers, Lee Roy and Arthur Lee Simonds, both of Marble Hill; and sisters, Betty Roland, Nelson, and Mozell Nikell, Ohio. Twenty-nine grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Ricky Jarrett and Harold Cantrell officiating. Interment followed in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mark Fountain, Kenny, Lawrence, Jeremy, Josh and Kelley Chumley and Jonathan Jarrett.
Mr. Hoy Stanfield, age 85 of Tate, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Stanfield, Tate; son and daughter-in-law, David and Judy Stanfield, Tate; daughters and son-in-law, Carol and Skip Miller, Jasper, and Gail Stanfield; and sister-in-law, Jewell Stanfield. Ten grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Holden officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: Jerry and Tony Jones, Jamie and Ty Coleman, John Wright and Ted Stanfield.
Mr. Steve Michael Poole, age 51 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at this residence following a sudden illness.
Born Sept. 22, 1958 in Pickens County, Ga., he was preceded in death by his father, John Avert Poole. Mr. Poole had worked as an electrician.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie Poole, Jasper; daughter, April Holden, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Jacob and Sabrina Holden, Brad and Lorie Holden and Curtis and Kassie Holden, all of Jasper; mother, Mrs. Ruth Poole, Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Danny Edward Poole, Jerry Randall Poole and Jason and Heather Poole, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Brent, Nathaniel, Julia Holden, Katie Cordell and Kylee and Kannon Holden; and nephews, Fletcher and Griffin Poole.
At his request, Mr. Poole was cremated and a memorial services was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Townsend officiated.
Mrs. Mildred Voyles, age 57 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Henry Buster Voyles, Ball Ground; son, Jesse Voyles, Ball Ground; brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Anita Spence, Ball Ground; and nephew, Kenneth Spence.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Boling officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Kenneth Spence, Rusty Fincher, Luke Wigington, Kenny and Mike Young and John Glisson.
