Talton Preston (T.P.) Cornett, age 78, husband to Mary Holcombe Cornett of 3931 Hwy. 24, Anderson, S.C., passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.
Born Feb. 28, 1931 in Jasper, Ga., he was a son of the late Talton and Maggie Boling Cornett. Mr. Cornett was a construction superintendent with Pickens Construction Co. in Anderson and the Hubbard Construction in Walhalla. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple.
Survivors include his wife Mary of the home; twin daughters, Janet Burt and Jane Peace, both of Cedar Bluff, Al., and Gail Purdy, Anderson; sons, Wendell Cornett, Chattanooga, Tn., Winford Cornett, Dayton, Tn., Mike Crawford, Six Mile, S.C., and Steve Crawford, Wills Point, Tx.; sisters, Elizabeth Waters and Eva Denny, both of Jasper, Ga., and Mary Carver, Talking Rock; and brothers, J.C. Cornett, Ball Ground, Ga., and Randall Cornett, Talking Rock, Ga. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harpo Cornett.
The funeral service was held Saturday, August 22 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. Interment followed in New Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, S.C.
Mr. Jack Alfred Kilgore, age 77 of Ball Ground, passed away Thursday evening at his home.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Jerry Chastain, Ellijay, Karen and Bob Smith, Dawsonville, and Susan and Walter Shealey, Ball Ground; son, Casey Kilgore, Cumming; sister, Tini Lance, Gainesville; and brothers, Billy Kilgore, Calhoun, and Edward Kilgore, Union Point. Eleven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday from Fairview Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Linda Annette Carnes, age 50 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, August 17, 2009 at her residence.
Born Dec. 6, 1958 in Hall County, Ga., she was preceded in death by her father, Warren George Brown; husband, Ross Carnes; and brother, Warren Lamar Brown. Mrs. Carnes had worked as a technician, repairing medical equipment and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Lamar Minor, Cleveland, Ga.; mother, Mrs. Lois Brown, Helen, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Kathy Brown and Gary Kennedy, Cleveland, Ga.; brother, Mark Brown, Helen, Ga.; granddaughter, Haleigh Minor, Cleveland, Ga.; and niece and nephews, Erica Nunnally, North Carolina, Will and Brook Daw, Demorest, Ga., and Adam Kennedy, Cleveland, Ga. Other relatives also survive.
At her request, Mrs. Carnes was cremated and a memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 20 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, those desiring to do so may make contributions to the Georgia Model Aviators, 8250 Old Federal Road, Ball Ground, Ga. 30107.
Mr. Doug Jones, age 44 of Woodstock, Ga., passed at his residence in Woodstock early Thursday morning, August 20, 2009.
Survivors include his father and mother, Bill and Lorine Jones, Woodstock; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Cindy Jones, Kennesaw, Ga., and Tony and Tina Jones, Woodstock; and sister, Dana Jones, Woodstock. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, August 22 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Billy Moss and David Jones officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Bradley, Jason, Nick, Justin and Matthew Jones and Jeff Fox serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Vera Nelle Whitmore, age 85 of Talking Rock, passed early Thursday morning, August 20, 2009 at Heritage Health Care, Jasper.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Mitch Burnes, Talking Rock; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday, August 22 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Holbert officiating. Interment followed in Georgia Memorial Park in Marietta, Ga. Pallbearers were: Will Siez, Zack Cronan, Joey and Nicholas Jones, Dan and Neal Burnes.
Mrs. Phyllis L. Stiles, age 57 of Talking Rock, died Sunday, August 23, 2009.
Mrs. Stiles was born on Nov. 14, 1951 in Bell Fountain, Oh. The daughter of the late John Harrison Brentlinger and Phyllis Roof, she worked as a medical assistant and was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mineral Bluff, Ga.
Survivors include her husband, Delbert Stiles of the home; sons, Michael Brentlinger, Maryland, Robert Bolinger, Ellijay, and Brian Higgins, Blue Ridge; step-sons, James Stiles, Ducktown, Tn., Bryan Stiles, Cleveland, Tn.; and brothers, John Stanton Brentlinger, Gilbert, S.C., Michael Lee Brentlinger, Gallipolis, Oh., and Robert William Brentlinger, Pensacola, Fl. Eleven grandchildren and four step-grandchildren also survive.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Mr. John Joseph Decker, age 53 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009.
Mr. Decker was a member of the US Marine Corp. and a wrecker driver.
Survivors include his daughters, Hope Mewborn, Waleska, Jennifer Stancil, Ball Ground, and Gwen Decker, Jasper; sisters, Pearl Convey, Omaha, Ne., and Jackie Forney, Middletown, N.Y.; brother, Rusty Howell, Alexandria, La.; step-father, Fred Howell, New York; and special friends, Virginia Hitt. Seven grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 25 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Franklin King and Pastor Herman Williams officiating.
Mrs. Ruby Ray of Chamblee, formerly of Cumming, passed away late Friday night, August 21, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her son, Phillip Franklin Ray, Woodstock; daughters and son-in-law, Susan and William Earl Sires, Blue Ridge, and Vicki Ann Ray, Chamblee; brother, Burl Cruse, Cumming; sisters, Mary Tenney, Jonesboro, Katherine Rice, Mytelee Lawler and Elizabeth Stanford; grandchildren, Tiffany Marie Ray, Justin and Johnathon Ray, Alysia and Matt Dunwoody, Josh and April Jones, Corey, Charles Daniel, Brian and Steven Ray; and great-grandson, Joshua Kyle Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Ray; and son, Charles Henry Ray.

Miss Jessica Woodward, age 20 of Jasper, Ga., passed at Grady Memorial Hospital Sunday, August 23, 2009.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Tina and Mark Faber, Jasper; and grandparents, Patsy Woodward Bryant, Fairmount, Nath Jordan, Calhoun, and Gloria Jones, Ball Ground. She was preceded in death by her father, Cayce Woodward; and grandfather, Eugene Woodward.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 26 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Chip Ray and Evangelist Randy Southerland officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Jordan Moody, Zach Peardon, Caleb Ray, Daniel Collett, Jaron Gilbert and Paul Davis.
