C.L. Deadwyler, Jr.
C.L. Deadwyler, Jr., age 81 of Atlanta and Bent Tree, Jasper, Ga., passed away June 8, 2009. He was born on July 25, 1927 in Memphis, Tn. and lived in Jacksonville, Fl. His family moved to Atlanta in 1944 where he attended Druid Hills High School, graduating in 1945. C.L. served his country in the Navy from 1945 until 1947. He returned to Atlanta where he attended Georgia Tech and Georgia State University, graduating from Georgia State University. He married Virginia Lee Allen on Nov. 20, 1948.
C.L. worked at General Motors as an inspector while attending college. He sold real estate, was a residential contractor, then a real estate appraiser in Atlanta. He retired in 1993. He loved his wife, family, friends, Packards and Big Band music.
He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Virginia Lee Allen Deadwyler; brother, Joe Davis Deadwyler, and sister-in-law, Betty Jane; children and spouses, Richard Allen Deadwyler and Rebecca (Aamoth), William Douglas Deadwyler and Carolyn (Sisk), Nancy Deadwyler Baird, Catherine Deadwyler Hardeman and David Alan Hardeman, and Laura Virginia Deadwyler; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren who will all miss him greatly.
The service was held in the Chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 12 with the Rev. Laura Jernigan officiating.

The many friends of Gerald W. ?Jerry? Johnson were saddened to learn of his death on June 6, 2009 at his Big Canoe home. Jerry died in the care of Compassionate Hospice of North Georgia and in the arms of his loving family after a courageous year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. The body was cremated.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, Green Washington Johnson and Alma Robertson Johnson, Covington, Ga. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathryn ?Kaye? Keene Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Scott Titlow of Dacula, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Johnson of Perry, Ga.; and grandchildren, Laura Titlow and Keene and Kathryn Johnson.
Jerry played high school baseball, basketball and football and he also played college baseball and football and enjoyed all of it. He was active in both the South DeKalb YMCA and the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta. He loved coaching his son?s YMCA basketball teams and he was active in his daughter?s school choral productions. He served as co-president of their high school PTAs. Jerry was a Chartered Life Underwriter, a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and a 1958 graduate of Georgia State College of Business Administration (now Georgia State University). Jerry was an avid University of Georgia football fan and enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Jerry and Kaye moved to Big Canoe in 1985 and both are members of Big Canoe Chapel. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2007.
The family received friends at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 14 in the Broyles Community Center. At 2 p.m. a memorial service was held in the Chapel with the Rev. Lamar Helms officiating. Mrs. Ruth Bell Orr Stowe, age 87 of Cumming, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009. She was a member of Long Street Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Elmer Stowe.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Donald Cantrell, Cumming, Patsy and Rev. Larry Waddell, Canton, and Nancy and Anthony Gravitt, Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Joni Stowe, Cumming; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Quimby and Chlorene Orr, Cumming; sister, Yvonne Smallwood, Cumming; sister-in-law, Anne Orr, Cumming; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Wynett Teems, Cumming; and sister-in-law, Mamie Bullock, Roswell. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m. from Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Michael Cantrell, Larry Waddell, Danny Orr, Terry Caylor, Danny Satterfield and George Scondras officiating. Interment followed at Longstreet Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Jewell E. Payne, age 79 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed early Friday morning, June 12, 2009 at Wildwood Health Care in Talking Rock, Ga.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Regina Payne, Talking Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and John Jordan, Phyllis and Joe Hamby and Freda and William Haithcock, all of Ball Ground; daughter-in-law, Janice Payne, Talking Rock; and sister, Idella Elliott, Jasper. Twenty-two grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Payne was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Payne; son, Lenny Payne; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 14 at 2 p.m. from Arbor Hill Baptist Church in Pickens County with the Revs. Wayne Long, Greg Long and Mike Byess officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Josh and Brian Hamby, Jason Chester, William Payne and Jeremy, Scott and Jamie Jordan serving as pallbearers. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to Arbor Hill Baptist Church. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
