Fredrick Thomas Brooks, age 65 of Big Canoe, Ga. and Cook, Mn., passed away May 11, 2009 in Big Canoe
Born in New York City, he spent 30 years at Eastman Kodak as sales manager in Radiography Markets. He worked hard to be able to play hard and easily transitioned into early retirement.
He fully indulged in his favorite activities. An avid snow skier, he became a member of the National Ski Patrol. A very accomplished and passionate sailor, he participated in boat deliveries between the US and the Caribbean, solely for adventure and to be on the ?high seas.? He went on to obtain his Official Coast Guard Certified Captain?s License. Recently he completed training and very proudly became a member of the Big Canoe Volunteer Fire Department, including wild land firefighting. Golf and tennis were also favorite activities.
Fred Brooks lived his life with zest, optimism and enthusiasm - he loved life. He was always mindful of the needs and feeling of others. His love and kindness will continue to touch many lives.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Brooks, Big Canoe, Ga. and Cook, Mn.; daughter, Ashley Brooks, Atlanta, Ga.; son, Fredrick Brooks and daughter-in-law, Martha Brooks; grandchildren, Sawyer and Emyrsen, Ventura, Ca.; and sister, Joy Brooks, Wellsley, Ma.

Mrs. Sharon Kidd, age 60 of Jasper, Ga., passed at Heartland Hospice in Cartersville, Ga. early Wednesday morning, May 20, 2009.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Nikki Kidd, Fairmount, and their children, Robbie and Christopher Kidd; daughter, Caroline Kidd-Riner, Gilbert, Az., and her children, Adam, Jacob and Nathaniel Riner; and sister, Janet Smith, La Vagus, Ne.

Jason Alan Deppa died Saturday, May 16, 2009.
Jason was born in Urbana, Il. on Nov. 27, 1988. He was baptized into the Christian faith at Mahomet Lutheran Church in Mahomet in 1996 and he affirmed his baptism at Hope Lutheran Church in Ellijay, Ga. in 2003. He graduated from Pickens High School in Jasper, Ga. in 2007 and from the Installers Institute in Daytona, Fl. later that year.
Jason worked in the automotive industry - first with Budget Automotive and most recently with the Turner family at Turner Tire Sales in Jasper. He loved working on anything mechanical. Jason had a passion for car stereos/audio, import cars and lowriders. Most of all, Jason loved his family, friends and life. He never met a stranger. For Jason? All his friends were his best friends.
He is survived by his parents, Bruce and Kelle Deppa, Waleska, Ga.; brother, Michael Deppa, sister-in-law, Julie Deppa, and nephew, Elliott Deppa, Kennesaw, Ga.; grandfather, Richard Deppa, Rantoul, Il.; and grandparents, Marvin and Shirley Bruner, Canton, Ga.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 21 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Smedley, Minister Kim Russell and Jeffery Stillwell officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Michael Deppa, Johnathon Hill, Dustin Richards, Tripp Shaw, Waunon Smith, J.P. and Nicholas Poremba and Jeff Green. Honorary pallbearer was Stephen Ray.
Roper Funeral Home of Jasper announces the death of Mrs. Nettie Aretta Haley, age 74 of Woodstock, formerly of Jasper, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis Haley Bailey, Woodstock, Gary Haley, Duluth, and Rhonda Haley Beck, Jasper; sister, Lelia Flowers, Orlando, Fl.; grandchildren, Brooke Gaddis and Brandi Kent, both of Jasper, and Kari Standridge and Lindsey Haley, both of Duluth; and great-grandchildren, Haley Kline, Lola and Brady Gaddis, all of Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey DuBois officiating. Interment followed in Turner Cemetery in Maggie Valley, N.C.
Mrs. Mildred C. Evans, age 77 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born June 15, 1931 in Cobb County, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Hattie Prather Chastain. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Evans, in February of this year. Mrs. Evans had worked as a custodian with the Pickens County Board of Education and was a member of Hinton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Sally Evans Young, Talking Rock; son, Ronald Lee Evans, Talking Rock; and brothers, Hoyt Chastain, Talking Rock, and Tom Chastain, Fairmount. Five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 22 from Hinton United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim Schlicht, Sanford N. Willard, Sr. and Johnny Barnes officiating. Mr. Larry Steve Darnell, age 62 of Nelson, Ga., died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born May 15, 1946 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late Newman Posey and Margaret Elizabeth Darnell. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Danny Darnell. Mr. Darnell was a US Army veteran having served during Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Buena Darnell, Nelson; son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Beth Darnell, Ball Ground, Ga.; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Johnny Parton and Sheila and Eddie Darby, all of Ball Ground. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9 from Bethesda Baptist Church with the Revs. James Rich and Greg Long officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Mrs. Patricia Roland Padgett, age 71 of Jasper, Ga. passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009 at Ridgewood Manor Health and Rehab Center in Dalton, Ga.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Padgett, Jasper; mother, Reva Cook, Cartersville; daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Winston Rice, Cartersville, Janice and Johnny Garrison, Jasper, and Donna and Steve Carey, Grantville; daughter, Rebecca Roland, Tunnel Hill; and son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Misty Roland, Canton, Ga.
The funeral service was held Saturday, May 23 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Erwin Easterwood and Randy Weaver officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
