Mrs. Louvenia Barrett, age 90 of Ball Ground, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee.
Mrs. Barrett was the former mayor of Ball Ground. She was a member of Ball Ground Baptist Church, the Eastern Star and the Cherokee County Senior Center.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Margaret Barrett, Ball Ground, and Howell and Linda Barrett, Marietta; grandchildren, Robby Barrett, Ball Ground, and Jeff and Krystle Barrett and Leigh Ann Gantt, all of Marietta; and great-grandchildren, Emily, Sydney and Sophie Barrett.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. James Rich and Rick Roberts officiating. Interment followed in the Ball Ground City Cemetery.
Mrs. Rose G. Pearce Key, age 83 of Blue Ridge, Ga. passed away Jan. 24, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga.
Born in Floyd County, Ga., she was the daughter of John Henry and Dovie Gertrude Thaxton Pearce. She retired as a lunch room manager for West Fannin School after many years of service. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church where she served for many years as a pianist, church treasurer and was involved with the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Key was a member of the Fannin Regional Women?s Auxiliary and also enjoyed quilting, cooking and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Mr. Homer ?Jack? Key; and five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Homer Gaylin and Cathy Key, Talking Rock, Ga; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Marie and Paul Singletary, Jasper; three grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Key of Boerne, Tx., Nathaniel Paul and Savannah Marie Singletary, both of Jasper; and mother-in-law, Hester Hunt Key of Blue Ridge. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Akins Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with the Revs. Barbara Davidson and Jennings Neeld officiating. Music was provided by Jerrie Sue Massengale. Interment followed in the Epworth United Methodist Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Junior Gwynn, Jim Carson, Bob Mathis, William Turner, Cecil Stuart, Brian Finnicum and Ben Arp. Mrs. Pearl Girard, age 70 of Jasper, passed away Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include her sons, J.J. Girard, Jasper, and Brady Girard, Marietta; daughters, Mary Alice Byers, Ball Ground, and Gilda Moss and Vivian King, both of Jasper; brothers, Charles and Dean Orren, both of Johnson City, Tn., Darrell Orren, Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and John Orren, Mumford, Tn.; sister, Wanda Parrish, Johnson City; sisters-in-law, Rosa Thurman, Marietta, and Sharon Girard, Athens; and sister-in-love, Thelma Sams. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
Mrs. Girard was cremated. A memorial service was held from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Kelley officiating. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association.
John W. Weaver
Mr. John W. Weaver, age 76 of Jasper, passed away at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Weaver; son and daughter-in-law, John and Joanie Weaver, Dawsonville; daughters and son-in-law, Becky and Mike Jones, Canton, and Carol Weaver, Jasper; brother, Jimmy Weaver, Freehold, N.J.; and sister, Nancy Saplo, Duluth. Eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.

Mr. Martin Luther Akins, age 75 of Marble Hill, passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital after a long battle with ill health.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Akins, Marble Hill; sons, Bryan Akins and Kenneth Boyd; and daughters, Debbie Stiels, Susie Walters, Sonia Akins and Kim Godfrey.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. from Foothills Community Church in Marble Hill. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Rev. Harold Johnson, age 64 of Jasper, passed away suddenly Monday, Jan. 26, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Johnson, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Angie Johnson and David and Donna Johnson, all of Jasper; brother and sister-in-law, Phillip and Kay Johnson, Talking Rock; sisters and brother-in-law, Edith Henry, Acworth, and Ruth Henson and Linda and Don Bloodworth, all of Blue Ridge; and grandchildren, Daniel and Chelsea Johnson.

Mr. Leon ?Lee? Mulkey, age 80 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2009 at his residence.
Survivors include his brothers, Coy and Albert Mulkey, both of Ludville, and Ed Mulkey, Ranger; and sisters, Tamer Young, Ranger, and Betty Childers, Jerusalem Community. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Mulkey was preceded in death by his wife, Dimple Mulkey.

Marsha Robinson passed away Jan. 30, 2009 at Emory Hospital. She was born May 18, 1947 in Cleveland, Oh. to Mattie Lucille and Jesse Fuller.
She grew up in Cleveland and in 1974 moved to Atlanta, Ga. where she met and married Calvin ?Joe? Robinson. Marsha was an adventurous globetrotter - her husband?s work took them to live in Saudi Arabia, Puerto Rico and Iraq, but she eventually returned to Georgia, living for many years in College Park and most recently in Jasper. She was a devoted member of the Jasper Kingdom Hall and worked for the Kroger Co.
Marsha loved life and lived fully. Her free spirit and generous heart will be deeply missed by those she leaves behind.
She is survived by her husband; her mother; her sisters, Yvonne Fuller Jones and Deborah Brown; brother, Gregory Fuller and their families, including several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Charlotte Watkins; and brothers, Harry and Stephen Fuller.
A remembrance of her life will be held Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah?s Witnesses in Jasper. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Maryellen Dalinsky Jackson, daughter of Anthony and Ellen Dalinsky, age 76 of Jasper, passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at Heartland Hospice House in Cartersville, Ga.
Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Valerie Ann and Mark Hellinger, Jasper; and Lawrence, Ronald Hylton and Thomas Anthony Jackson. Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives. One daughter, Barbara Ellen Jackson, precedes her in death.

Mrs. Norene D. Kincaid, age 78 of Jasper, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009.
Mrs. Kincaid was born July 1,1930 in Heard County, Ga. the daughter of the late David Jeppi and Rosie Lee Vaughn Daniel. She worked in the textile industry and was of the Baptist Faith. He husband Robert Kincaid preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Oscar Daniel, Opelika, Al; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Allen and Sharon Kincaid, Jasper, and James Douglas and Tracie Kincaid, Talking Rock; step-sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Kincaid and Roger and Janie Kincaid, all of Ellijay, 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Josephus Daniel, New Mexico; and sister, Annie Ruth Warren, LaGrange.

Mrs. Nancy ?Linda? White, age 68 of Woodstock, Ga., passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta following a period of declining health.
Born Feb. 16, 1940 in Trion, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Herman Jay and Sara Alma Van Pelt Eaton. She was also preceded in death by husbands, James Wade Higgins and Fred Lewis White, Jr. Mrs. White was a homemaker and member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Pickens County.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Julia A. and Charles Murdock, Canton; grandchildren, Charles D. Murdock IV and Jade Murdock, both of Canton; step-mother, Jimmie Lea Eaton, Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Gary and Tiffiney Eaton, Woodstock, and James Eaton, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mr. Claude ?Larry? Rogers, age 61 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born April 1, 1947 in Fannin County, Ga., he was preceded in death by his father, Claude Larkin Rogers. Mr. Rogers was a US Army veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a salesman dealing in antique auto collectibles. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Rogers, Orlando, Fl.; daughters, Shonda Rogers, Jasper, Precious Morrison, Orlando, and Tammy Hall, Loganville, Ga.; sons, Shone, Shane and Travis Rogers, all of Orlando, and Jamie Rogers, Eatonton, Ga.; several grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Ruth Rogers, Eatonton; and brother, David Rogers, Athens, Al. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
