Sanford Horn III
Sanford Louis Horn III, born in Little Rock, Ar. on August 3, 1948, passed from this life on Nov. 14, 2008 at his home in Miami, Fl.
He is survived by his wife, Janis Theetge Horn, 2321 SW 27th Terrace, Miami, Fl. 33133; son, Sanford L. IV; daughter, Kimberly Horn Anderson; and sister, Mindy Hameline.
He was the son-in-law of Rogers and Marilyn Theetge of Jasper.
Sandy?s ashes will be interred at the Pennekamp Underwater Park in Key Largo, Fl., as he was an avid diver.
Mr. James Brent Kilgore, age 54 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008.
Survivors include his daughters, Missy and Amber Kilgore, both of Canton; and sisters, Pat Fife, California, Helen Clonts, Rome, and Sue Oliver, Roswell. Two grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. from the Orange United Methodist Church with the Rev. Max Vincent officiating. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Grace Chumley West, age 81 of Cumming, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008.
A native of Dawsonville, Grace had lived in Cumming most of her life. She was born in June of 1927, one of nine children of John Henry and Martha Sue Holtzclaw Chumley. Grace was known as ?Granny? to many and provided childcare in her home for more than 20 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Russell West, who died in August of 1999.
Her surviving children are Joyce M. Jordan, James H. Spence, Daniel M. West, Ronnie D. West and Vickie West Farr. She was most proud of her 16 surviving grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her surviving siblings are Minnie L. Wigington, Loy Chumley, J. Carson Chumley and Edna Goswick. She had a long and wonderful life and was a blessing to all she met. Heaven has gained an angel.
The funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. from the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave Holbrook officiating. Interment followed in the Dawsonville City Cemetery.
Mrs. Debbra Harper, age 54 of Jasper, passed away Saturday evening, Dec. 20, 2008 at Well Star Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Harper, Jasper; father, Harry Parr, Columbus, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Sabrina and Joseph Eads, Tucker, Ga.; step-daughter, Amy VonBortsel, Woodstock; step-son, Jeff Harper, Gautier, Miss.; brother, Larry Parr, Duluth, Ga.; and sister, Mary Lou Sullivan, Columbus. Seven grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Ellijay, Ga. with Dr. David Drake officiating. Interment was in the First Baptist Church of Epworth Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bobby Lynch, Jeff Chastain, David DeBra, Calvin Rolin, Leo Baker and Mike LaMee. Honorary pallbearers were the Koinonia Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Ellijay. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Branson Gilbert, age 68 of Tate, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Gilbert, Tate; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Connie Gilbert, Tate; and grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsie Gilbert, Tate. Several cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Buddy Roper and Gene Childers officiating. Interment was in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery in Nelson, Ga. Pallbearers were: David Pendley, Sam Wynn, Skip Densmore, James Morris, Donald Walker and Kenneth West.
Mr. David Worley, age 65 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Worley, Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law, David Worley, Panama City, Fl., Mark Raven, Shane and Kim McClure and Richie McClure, all of Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Lance Turner, Jasper; and brothers-in-law, Robert and Tommy Brooks, both of Jasper. Ten grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 from Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Carter Payne officiating. The family did accept potted plants or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Norman Vickery, age 72 of Jasper, passed early Wednesday morning, Dec. 17, 2008 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Vickery, Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law, Ricky Vickery, Cornelia, Ga., Jim and Gaylene Gleason and Walter Gleason, Jr., all of Jasper; daughter, Elaine Langley, Conyers, Ga.; brothers, Grover Vickery, Conyers, Tillman Vickery, Cumming, Ray Vickery, Holly Springs, and Ricky T. Vickery, Clarksville, Ga.; grandchildren, Nichole, John, Tyler, Jennifer, Tiffany, Seth, Colin and Jessica; and great-grandchildren, Sophia and Jonathan.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Marty Vickery, Randy Smith and Reba Yarbrough officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park with Randy Smith, Ray Vickery, Sonny Yarbrough, Guy Armstrong, James Green and David Stancil serving as acting pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Gleason and Jon Page. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Jack Godfrey, age 86 of Fairmount, Ga., departed this life Saturday morning, Dec. 20, 2008 at his home.
Mr. Godfrey was born Feb. 8, 1922 in Murray County, Ga., a son of the late David Franklin and Lucille Singleton Godfrey. His brothers, Robert ?Bob?, Ernest and Raymond Godfrey, and sisters, Lemos Sanford and Annie Lue Godfrey, also preceded him in death. He was retired from Anderson Trucking Co. (formerly Shinall Trucking) after 40 years and was a member of Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, June (Mahan) Godfrey, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Laura Godfrey, Eustis, Fl., Byron and Beverly Roland, Marietta; daughters and son-in-law, Janie and Bill Swick, Kennesaw, and Edwina Roland, Fairmount; brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Sue Godfrey, Hampton; sister and brother-in-law, Reba Jo and Bob Watkins, Hogansville; grandchildren, Stacey Humphreys, Dayna and Jeff Knowles, Jennifer Roland, Rebecca and J.D. Patterson, Julia and Kristen Humphreys, Jerrico Roland and Grant and Cole Godfrey; great-grandchild, Sage Edwards; sister-in-law, Rachel Findley, Fairmount; and brother- and sister-in-law, J.B. and Eunice Mahan, Nashville, Tn. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Godfrey was held Monday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. from the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Vermilya officiating. Music was provided by Amanda Brown. He was laid to rest in Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church Cemetery with Dwight, Rodney, Stevie, Lamar and Dean King, Curt Godfrey, J.D. Patterson and Claude Smith serving as pallbearers.
Ms. Marion Linda Poselli, age 68 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the residence of her daughter following her battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 14, 1940 in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Louise Medeiros Poselli. She was also preceded in death by a son, George Winkelman.
Survivors include daughters, Lorraine Gimino, Jasper, Linda Fernandez, Coral Springs, Fl., Lisa Winkelman, Queens, N.Y., Laura Romano, Whitestone, N.Y., and Lenore Grogan, Salisbury, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Bernadette Messina, Jasper. Several other relatives also survive.
A Mass was held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Father Frank Richards officiating.
Mrs. Kathryn Juanita Adkins, age 83 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at her daughter?s residence following a period of declining health.
Born July 5, 1925 in Portsmouth, Oh., she was the daughter of the late Wayne and Sarah Johnson McCoy. Mrs. Adkins was preceded in death by her husband, Wiser Adkins; granddaughter, Sissy Adkins; grandsons, Steven Newbold and Darrin Adkins; sister, Maxine Drosenos; and brother, LeRoy McCoy. Mrs. Adkins was a former resident of Crescent City, Fl. where she owned a restaurant and served as a substitute teacher. She was a member and had held various officer positions in the American Legion Auxiliary and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and David Young, Jasper, and Lois and Sherrill Ekers, Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Gina Adkins, New Carlisle, Oh.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Ellen McCoy, Crescent City, Fl., and Wayne and Ellen McCoy, Akron, Oh. Five granddaughters, two grandsons, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 from the Chapel of CK Mortuary in Ceredo, W.V. with interment in Hatton Cemetery in Centerville, W.V. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Edford Martin, age 60 of Canton, Ga., passed Monday evening, Dec. 22, 2008 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Evelyn Martin, Canton; daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Arnold McCoy, Ball Ground, and Lisa and Wesley Elliott, Blairsville; brother, Marvin Martin, Canton; and granddaughters, Kayla and Ashley Elliott.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Harris officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Stevie Morris, Charles Helton, Bobby Hollingshead, Jason Wooten, Stevie Johnson, David Spence and Phillip and Terry Martin serving as pallbearers.
