Mrs. Minnie D. Hawkins, age 82 of Talking Rock, passed away Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 at her residence.
Mrs. Hawkins was a homemaker and member of Welcome Valley Baptist Church for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hawkins; and a grandson, Robby Lacy.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Linda Hawkins and Sammy Hawkins, all of Talking Rock; daughters and son-in-law, Betty Lacy, Talking Rock, and Sherry and Mike Gaddis, Clayton Community. Twelve grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16 from Welcome Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Carl Owensby, Wayne Long and Mike Byess officiating. Interment followed in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Forsyth County. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Deborah Mitchell, age 49 of Fairmount, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2008 at her residence.
Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Olive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Moss.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, the Rev. David Mitchell, Fairmount; sons and daughters-in-law, Shay and Aleah Mitchell, Adairsville, and Michael and Danielle Mitchell, Rydal; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Bruce Lanning, Fairmount; father and step-mother, Troy L. and Syble Moss, Rydal; brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Elaine Moss and Douglas and Vickie Moss, all of Rydal; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Dennis Moore, Alexandria, Va. Six grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 from Pleasant Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. Glenn King, Leroy Kelley and Wilbur Ridings officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Randy Faucett, age 52 of Talking Rock, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008 as the result of a truck accident.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Faucett, Talking Rock; son, Ronnie Faucett, Ellijay; daughters, Michelle Carver and Dinky, both of Ellijay; step-son, Gabe Duckett, Marble Hill; step-daughter, Kim Duckett, Jasper; and brothers, William Faucett, Ball Ground, and Ricky Faucett, Nelson. Twelve grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 18 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Sanford Fountain, Charlie Buchanan and Keith Cook officiating. Interment was in Arbor Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dusty Reynolds, Tadpole Evans, Steve Andrews, Kevin Byess, Rocky McDowell and Jeff VanAlstein. Honorary pallbearers were Lee and Chris Faucett. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to help with the funeral expenses through an account at Jasper Banking Co.
Mr. Frank McElroy, age 93 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed Thursday afternoon, Oct. 16, 2008 at Southern Traditions Nursing Center in Buchanan, Ga.
Mr. McElroy was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church, Marble Hill, Ga., and member and Past Master of Etowah Lodge for the year 1959.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ruth and Jerry Vandiver, Emerson, Ga.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Alton L. and Ashley Yvonne Boling Vandiver, Cartersville, Ga.; nephews, Gene, Ronny and Wayne McElroy, Donald and Jimmy Perry, David and Charles Kent and Billy Goforth; and nieces, Peggy Kirby Martz, Paulette Kent Parker, Carolyn Kent Foster, Mary Kirby Baker, Geraldine Kirby Jones, Portia Goforth Hensley, Madge Goforth Holloway and Robby Jean Goforth McElwaney.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. from Corinth Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Etowah Masonic Lodge #222 F&AM in charge of Masonic graveside services and members of the lodge served as pallbearers. The Revs. Bryan Jones and Chaz Childers officiated. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dorothy Moore, age 49 of the Ludville Community, passed early Sunday morning, Oct. 19, 2008 at her residence.
Survivors include her daughter, Heather Moore, Ludville; brothers, Jerry Lee McCoy, Canton, Pat McCoy, Taylorsville, J.W. McCoy, Waleska, and Terry McCoy, Jasper; and sisters, Ann Green and Brenda Cloud, both of Canton, and Cathy Hill, Jasper.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Jack Sanford officiating. A reception and meal will follow the service at Cagle Funeral Home. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorials be made to a trust to be established at a local banking institution for Heather Moore. These memorials may be left with the funeral home or made to the bank once the trust is established.
Thomas Weeks, Jr.
Thomas L. Weeks, Jr., age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 25, 2008.
He was born in Ludville, Ga. to Thomas and Cora Weeks, Sr. He retired to Jacksonville from the US Navy in 1973. Thomas was a faithful member of the Normandy Park Baptist Church. His greatest passion in life was wildlife. He loved to deer hunt and fish.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Faye; sons, Daniel and Stephan; five loving grandchildren, five lovely great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral service was held Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. from Hardage Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Inez Cantrell, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a brief illness.
Born Oct. 4, 1937 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Freland and Julia Mullinax Perry. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Ralph Cantrell. Mrs. Cantrell was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Ralph Cantrell, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Hilda and David Kinzer, Jasper; grandchildren, Heidi and Ryan Weaver, Calhoun, Ga., and Marcus Kinzer, Jasper; great-grandchild, Colt Weaver, Calhoun; and sister, Ednerl Caylor, Talking Rock. Several other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 from Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Dean, Carroll Holbrook and Ronnie Ray officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Wilba P. Bell, age 60 of Warm Springs, Ga., died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Bell was born Jan. 16, 1948 in Marion County, Ga., the son of William T. and Pearl Bell. He was a cabinet maker and carpenter. Mr. Bell had also worked with Iron Workers. He was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Cherokee County. He was preceded in death by both parents and sister, Frances P. Bell.
He is survived by his sons, Andy (Tosha) Bell, Dawsonville, Timmy Bell and Jody (Nancy) Bell, both of Warm Springs; brother, William Avery (Willene) Bell, Ball Ground, G.; and sister, Sarah ( Bill), Shiloh. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the First Baptist Church in Warm Springs with burial in the Warm Springs City Cemetery. Cox Funeral Home in Manchester was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Emmett Paul Godfrey, age 81 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga. following a period of declining health.
Born Sept. 19, 1926 in Pickens County, Ga., he was the son of the late Hubert C. and Mary Quinton Godfrey and was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey had worked at Lockheed and retired after 42 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Jewel Godfrey, Jasper; daughter, Karen Godfrey Woodcock, Marietta, Ga.; son, Danny Godfrey, Jasper; grandchildren, Michael Woodcock and Michelle Nicole Woodcock Mrasek; sisters, Ruby Daughtery, Betty Godfrey and Mildred Gardner, all of Talking Rock, Ga.; and brothers, Ralph Godfrey, Marietta, and Dick Godfrey, Florida. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Charles O. Walker, Ben Langley and Carl Kinsey officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ned Hillhouse, Jimmy Quinton, Edward Ray, Gene Turner and Bill and Ralph Jones.
