Mrs. Patsy Lucille Young, age 63 of Calhoun, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008 after several years of declining health.
She was born in Piedmont, Al. on Jan. 26, 1945, the daughter of the late Presley and Fannie Davis Haney.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Nathan Young; sons and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Gail Young and Randall Young, all of Calhoun; daughter and sons-in-law, Linda Young, Peggy and Michael Thompson, all of Calhoun, and Angie and Mitchell Farist, Fairmount; brother, Jerry Lee Haney, Dalton; and sisters and brother-in-law, Maggie Williams and Geraldine and Bill Baker, all of Dalton. Sixteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, June 17 at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Hubert Pack officiating. Interment followed in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers were: Chris and Randy Smith, Raymond and Randall Young, Iza Baker, Mitchell Farist and Michael Thompson.

Mrs. Jewell B. Dillard, age 93 of Talking Rock, passed away at her residence Tuesday morning, June 17, 2008.
Survivors include her daughters, Betty Banks, Talking Rock, and Pauline Dillard, Ellijay; and grandchildren, Cheryl Sams, Randy Banks, Gail Arp, Gary Banks, all of Talking Rock, Jean Hancock and Debra Young, both of Jasper, William Dillard, Ellijay, Kathy Long, Morganton, Kevin Dillard, Canton, and Shannon Miller, Carrollton. Ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 19 at 12 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Ga. Pallbearers are: Randy and Gary Banks, Gary, Jason and Dustin Hancock and Dave Arp. Mr. Charles Henry Geiger, age 82, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga. He was a resident of the community of Big Canoe (Pickens County), Ga.
Charlie was born August 24, 1925, in Ottawa, Il. to Howard Charles and Elsie Katherine (Walking) Geiger. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Yard Mine Sweeper 423 in the Pacific Theater. He was a 50-year member of the Wyoming Lodge AF& AM, Melrose, Ma.
Following a long and rewarding career as an electrical engineer, Charlie turned his interest to the military strategies occurring in Georgia during the Civil War. He gave extensive service to the Georgia Battlefields Association and to Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails. In May 2006, he was the proud recipient of the Governor?s Award in the Humanities sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Woodward Geiger; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Karen (Geiger) and Robert Cook of Newburyport, Ma.; son, Jeffrey Howard Geiger; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary (Geiger) and Fred Gray of Ottawa, Il.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Georgia Battlefields Association (c/o Frank Chew, Treasurer, 7 Camden Road NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30309) or Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails (Post Office Box 1864, Evans, Ga. 30809-1864). A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Big Canoe Chapel at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 13. His cremains will be interred in the Ottawa Avenue Cemetery in Ottawa.
Jewell Modine Guess died Thursday, June 19, 2008.
Mrs. Guess was born Feb. 8, 1934 in Dyersburg, Tn. to the late William and Nine Walker Moody. Her husband, James Shirley Guess, preceded her in death. A long-time resident of Jasper, Ga., Mrs. Guess made Juliette her home since 1996.
Survivors include her daughter, Sabre (Ken) Bostwick, Juliette; son, Shawn Guess, Macon; sister, Irma Hastings, Dyersburg; and grandchildren, Brad and Christy Bostwick.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29 from the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Jasper, 198 East Church St. Burial will be private. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in Jasper. Monroe County Memorial Chapel has charge of arrangements.
Ms. Sheena Lacey Edge, age 68 of Calhoun, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Specialty Hospital in Floyd County.
Ms. Edge was born in Fairmount, Ga. on Dec. 18, 1939, daughter of the late Edward Davis Lacey Sr. and Alma Lois Chambers Lacey. She was employed by Exit Flipper McDaniel Realty.
Survivors include her daughter, Lacey Panachida, Duluth; sons, Al and Frank Edge, both of Acworth; brothers, Davis Lacey, Ellijay, and Kelly Lacey, Ranger; and grandchildren, Rick and Kris Panachida, Kaitlyn, Erin, Amy and Ashley Edge.
The funeral service was held Saturday, June 21 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Interment followed in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers were: John Davidson, Josh and Henry Lacey, Kris and Rick Panachida and Josh Long.
Mr. Gene Finley, age 58 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton, Ga. following a sudden illness.
Born July 29, 1949 in Limo, Oh., he was preceded in death by his father, Myles Orvie Finley. Mr. Finley had worked as a machine operator in fabrication. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Finley, Jasper; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Myles and Sharon Finley, Covington, Ga., and Kyle Finley, Roswell, Ga.; mother, Mrs. Lettie Finley, North Canton, Oh.; grandchildren, Maya and Drew Finley and Myles Patrick; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Lee Willmore and Maxine and Norm Hostetler, all of North Canton, Oh.; and brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Carla Finley, Franklin, Tn. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 29 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Carson Reed and Ike Reeser officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park.
