John Willis Pendley
John Willis Pendley, age 84 of Jasper, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at his residence.
Born May 19, 1923 in Pickens County, he was the son of the late William Joseph and Georgia Belle Norton Pendley. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and infant daughter.
Mr. Pendley was a lifetime resident of Pickens County, and was a US Army veteran having served during WW II in the 3rd Infantry Division. He was a member of the Marble Hill Masonic Lodge, DAV and the American Legion. Mr. Pendley was a lover of bluegrass and gospel music. He had retired from Georgia Marble in 1993 and was a member of Long Swamp Baptist Church since 1939 and served as a Deacon since 1973.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lillie Mae Pendley, Jasper; daughter, Elaine Brooks, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, J.D. and Kathy Pendley, Pensacola, Fl., Earl and Lori Pendley, Lacey?s Spring, Al., and Major Vernie and Nicole Pendley, Enid, Ok.; grandchildren, Julie Ann and Josh Styles, Dr. Shane, Robert, Rhett, Venessa and Derek Pendley; and sister, Inez Kline, Jasper. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 15 from Long Swamp Baptist Church with the Revs. Greg Koch, Lamar Frady and Edwin Weaver officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the DAV Chapter 47 Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Wayne Anderson, Ralph Fitts, Jerry and Randall Watkins and Harold and Gene Norton. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Infant William May
Infant William Andrew May of the Hinton Community died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include the parents, Mike and Amy May, Hinton; grandparents, B.T. and Judy Stewart, Hinton; brother, Mikey May, Acworth; and sisters, Kellie and Kaidy May, both of Cartersville.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13 from Hinton Methodist Church with the Rev. Keith Willard officiating. Interment followed in Hinton Community Cemetery with Mikey May serving as pallbearer. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Marguerite S. Shaw, age 86 of Tate, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville.
Survivors include her children, Kathryn Amos, Gainesville, Tommy and Judy Shaw, Jasper, and Martha Shaw, Rome; and grandsons, Tripp and Cooper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Friday morning, May 16 at 11 a.m. from Jasper First Baptist Church with the Rev. Von Hinton and Dr. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Interment followed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mark Hinton, Keith Brooks, Lawton Baggs, Steve Shaw, Earl Ferguson, Danny Clay and Cooper Shaw. Mrs. Winnie A. Johnson, age 83 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, May 13 at her residence.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Annette Anderson, Jasper; sisters, Cleo Fouts and Jimmy Fausett, both of Dawsonville, Faye Mabrey, Loganville, and Anne Roper, Jasper; and special friends, Pat Chastain, Judy Carlan and Ann McEveen.
The funeral service was held Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Hugh Fields and Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Chris Nations, Corey Nibert, John and Jack Roper, Jerry Fouts and Mike Mabrey.
Mr. Carl Eugene Tatum, age 75 of Fairmount and formerly of Jasper, passed at Home Leigh Retirement Home in Fairmount early Saturday morning, May 17, 2008.
Survivors include his sisters, Mildred Grogan, Canton, Mary Britt, Louisiana, and Alice J. Moncrief, Waleska. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. from Talking Rock Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery with local Chapter #47 DAV in charge of Graveside services. The Revs. Carl Owenby and Jeffery Garland officiated. Pallbearers were: Bill Judkins, Ryan Haight, Ronnie Stanfield, Daniel Moncrief, Ronnie Hardee and Bobby Osborne.
