Sandra Hicks, age 53 of Ball Ground, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Hicks, Ball Ground; children, Shane (Renee) Hicks, Kennesaw, Clayton (Jessica) Hicks, Lawrenceville, and Corey (Crysanna) Hicks, Jesup; mother, Bertie Benson, Ball Ground; brother, Miles Crowe, Ball Ground; and grandchildren, Tyler Blalock, Elijah Hicks and Madelyn Hicks.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Ed Hammrick and J.T. Childers officiated. Interment followed in Macedonia Memorial Park.
Ms. Annie Julia Hampton, age 64 of Smyrna, Ga., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Ga. following her battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 27, 1945, Ms. Hampton was a press operator for HD Lee and was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Jasper, Ga.
Survivors include her brother, Mr. Julian Hampton, Wayne, Mi.; and nieces and nephews, Andrea Davis, Yolanda McKinzie, Tara, Clyde, Harper and Norma Davis. Other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 from Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, with the Revs. Charles Morgan and Leland Jones officiating. Interment followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park. A wake service was held at Roper Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. on Friday evening.
Mr. John Douglas Barclay, age 54 of Jasper, Ga., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2010 following a sudden illness. Born March 11, 1956, Mr. Barclay was an engineer for Gilabeau Marine Service and was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in Jasper.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Jim and Joyce Weatherby, Jasper; father, John Thomas Barclay, Wydourie, Al.; son, John Gabriel Hall, Newnan, Ga.; daughter, Marshelle Meanne Whitaker, Mableton, Ga.; sister, Susan Christine Fortes, Talking Rock, Ga.; and brothers, Perry Allen Barclay, Douglasville, Ga., and Thomas Daniel Barclay, Winston, Ga.
At his request, Mr. Barclay was cremated and a memorial service was held at the Holy Family Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25 with the Rev. George S. Yandell officiating. Roper Funeral Home of Jasper in charge of the arrangements.
Lela Trammell Gilreath, age 96 of Jasper, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at Cumming Nursing Center following a short illness.
Born May 30, 1914 in Dawson County to the late John and Ella Beck Trammell, she had lived in Jasper for the past 14 years. A homemaker at her death, she was formerly employed by Sweet Orr and Big Canoe. Mrs. Gilreath was the oldest member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy Taft Gilreath; daughter-in-law, Sue Stripland Gilreath; son-in-law, Hubert Ledbetter; five sisters; and two brothers.
Surviving are her children, Marcelle Ledbetter, Dawsonville, Lloyd and Jean Gilreath, Memphis, Tn., Morris and Peggy Gilreath, Gainesville, Donald Gilreath, Dawsonville, and David Gilreath, Jasper; and sister, Edith Blackwell, Marble Hill. Fourteen grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. from Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Gary Keown, Horace Trammell and Clyde Boling officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Flowers were accepted or donations may be made to the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Building Fund, 1853 Cowart Road, Dawsonville, Ga 30534. Mr. Tim William Parks, age 54 of Plainville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23 at Floyd Hospital. He was born in Pickens County on Nov. 10, 1955, son of David Parks and Bonnie Wilkey Shephard. Before becoming disabled in 1999, Mr. Parks was self-employed in the construction industry. He was a member of the Plainville Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his father, David Parks, Jasper; mother, Bonnie Wilkey Shephard, Plainville; sons, Bryan Selman and wife Beth and Timothy Parks, both of Rome; daughters, Samantha Miller and husband Marcus, Euharlee, and Angel Nichole Parks, Rome; brothers, Allen Parks, Shannon, Lawrence Edward Parks, Plainville, and Thomas Parks, Calhoun; and sister, Jennie Lou Childers, Plainville. Grandchildren are Marcus Miller II, Austin Selman, Mackenzie Miller, Andre, Addie and Aiden Selman. An extended family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. from the Plainville Church of God of Prophecy with Bros. Jerry Gaddis and Spencer Padgett officiating. Interment followed in the Scott Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Billy, Anthony, Tommy and Joseph Wilkey, Tommy Fowler and Lamar Williams.
Mr. Robert Ray, age 71 of Jasper, passed early Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at Northside Hospital-Cherokee in Canton.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Billy, Robbie and Wanda, Keith, Kevin and John Ray, all of Jasper; and daughter, Zelda Ray, Dalton. Eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Joey DuBois and Emmett Burgess officiating. Interment followed in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Richard Boutwell, Ricky, Tim, Dillon and Casey Ray, Austin Mooney and Tommy Mays.
Mr. Ray Parker, age 74 of the Hinton Community, passed Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Parker, Hinton; mother-in-law, Mary Martin, Hinton; sons, Michael and Justin parker, both of Hinton; daughters, Carolee Arnold and Brandy Bozeman, both of Jasper; and grandchildren, Jessica Howell, Valerie Roberson, Heather Parker, Alex and Avery Cannady, Bayli Bozeman and Katelyn Arnold. Four great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Parker was preceded in death by two brothers, Thurman and Olen Parker.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Hyde officiating. Interment followed in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Gilmer County. Pallbearers were: Earl Carver, Andy Burton, R.L and Cam Parker, Joey Cannady and Danny Joe Chadwick. Honorary pallbearers were: Judd Blackwell, Ted Wilkins, Alex Cannady, Ray Bates, Rob Parker, Horace Williams, James Eaton and Brian Coker.
Mr. Olen Roger (Dooster) Parker of Talking Rock, Ga. passed late Saturday evening, Sept. 18, 2010 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper.
Survivors include his brother, Ray Parker, Hinton Community; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Parker was cremated according to his wishes and, at present no services are scheduled. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Leisa Jones Ballew, age 44 of Ellijay died Friday, Sept. 24, 2010.
Mrs. Ballew was born on July 29, 1966 in Gilmer Co. She is the daughter of the late Herbert Jones and Netti Hodge Jones. She was a convenience store manager and a member of Flat Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Randall Ballew of the home; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Ann and Richard McAdams, Tallahassee, Fl., Lori and Alan Carver, Jasper; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward B. Jones, Lafayette, Ga., Douglas and Kathy Jones, Dalton, Ga., Robert and Angie Jones, Marietta, Ga, H. David Jones and Randy and Donna Jones, all of Dalton, Ga., and Jeanette Ballew, Talking Rock, Ga. Several nieces and nephews, including Sonya Jones Martinez of Dalton, also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 26 at 3 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Franklin Harper officiating. Music was by Martha Harper. Pallbearers were: Todd Grove, Brian, Mark and Tonny Jones, Alan Carver and Jimmy Charles. Interment followed in the Flat Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Roy Watkins, age 66 of Canton, passed early Monday morning, Sept. 27, 2010 at Woodstock Nursing & Rehab Center in Woodstock.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sandra Watkins and Kenny and Sheri Watkins, all of Ball Ground; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and James Gentner, Kennesaw; brothers, Larry, Stanley, Sammy, Joe and Mark Watkins, all of Dalton, Ga.; sisters, Carol Watkins, Dalton, Judy McGhee, Ball Ground, and Donna Mitchell, Dalton; grandchildren Justin, Pamela, Colten and Tatum Watkins and Madelyne Gentner; and great-grandson, Alex Watkins. Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by a sister, Deborah Watkins.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Huey Holloway officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park with Colt, Justin, William and Josh Watkins, Michael McGhee, Tyler Mitchell, Terry Lee Painter and Mitchell Godfrey serving as pallbearers.
