Mr. Herbert Coy Chastain, age 85 of Talking Rock, Ga., departed this life Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Wildwood Health Care.
Herbert was born Feb. 28, 1924 in Pickens County, a son of the late Floyd and Vinnie Hightower Chastain. He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Chastain.
Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Wade and Georgia Chastain, Talking; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Herbert was held Saturday, June 20 at 10 a.m. from Ludville Church of God Cemetery with the Rev. Lynn Perkle officiating. Arrangements by the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home.
Herbert Fox, age 84 of Nicholson, died on Thursday, June 18, 2009. He was born in Pickens County on Sept. 30, 1924 to the late Colie Fox and the late Susie Wilkins Fox.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Fox, Monroe; children, Bobby and Evelyn Fox, Madison, David and Charlotte Fox, Monroe, Barbara and Terry Blalock, Nicholson, Sandra Jenkins, Madison, Danny Fox, Monroe, Geraldine and Michael Hodges, Nicholson, Linda and Bo McDaniel, Walnut Grove, and Glenda and Randy Moore, Gray; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Hugh Gravley and Shirley and Alton Beck, all of Jasper, and Rose Horton, Douglas, Al.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Denton and Evelyn Fox and Jim and Pat Fox, all of Jasper. Seventeen grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Sunday, June 21 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Malcom officiating. Pallbearers were grandchildren: Tim Hodges, Brian Blalock, Ricky Blalock, Steven Fox, Chad Moore, Lee Jenkins, Chris Jenkins, Johnny Jenkins and Jessie Jenkins. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery.
Mrs. Kathy Evans, age 62 of Marble Hill, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, David Hambrick, Marble Hill; son, Randy V. Evans, Ellijay; daughter, Trina M. Evans, Marble Hill; brother, Sammy Duckett, Woodstock, and half-brother, Jerry Burns, West Virginia. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 22 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Martin officiating. Interment followed in Arbor Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Pickens County. Pallbearers were: Mikey, Mac and Homer Dodd, Robbie Evans, Paul Fowler, Jr. and Raymond Fowler.
Mrs. Mary June Brooks, age 82 of Jasper, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Brooks, Alexandria, Va., and Samuel Brooks, Austin, Tx.; and grandchildren, Matthew and Amy Brooks.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20 from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Joey Dubois officiating. Interment followed in Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain. Pallbearers were: Sam, Frank and Joey Camp, John Dorsey, Joel Neighbors and Tony Trippe.
Lois J. (Safley) Method, 77, formerly of Illinois and most recently residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Maury Griffith, in Bent Tree, passed away at home June 16, 2009 following a very long illness.
A memorial service to celebrate her life was held at the Bent Tree Memorial Garden on Saturday, June 20, followed by a brunch at her daughter?s home. Cagle Funeral Home handled the service, which was officiated by Pastor Chris Taylor of Hospice. There will be an additional memorial in Muscatine, Iowa on June 27.

Lois J. Safley was born July 19, 1931, to Maurice J. and Henrietta F. (McDannold) Safley in Tipton, Iowa. She graduated from Muscatine High School in 1949. She married Richard F. Bodman in 1951 in Muscatine. She later married Vincent J. Method on July 14, 1967 and resided in Illinois until 2003, when they lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Tampa, Fl. and later Jasper, Ga.
Lois worked for Stanley Consultants in Muscatine from 1955-1967, and for McClure Engineering Associates, Inc., East Moline, Illinois, from 1977-1992. She was a member of the East Moline Jr. Women?s Association for several years and served as their president 1970-1973. She loved gardening and nature, entertaining, traveling and spending time with her family. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her, with her positive spirit and faith, despite her debilitating illness. She was happy to spend her last years in Bent Tree, and loved the changing seasons and beauty of nature in North Georgia.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (Bodman) Griffith and Maury Griffith, of Jasper; brother, Harold F. (Buzz) Safley, Muscatine; step-daughter and step-son, Nancy Wolfe and John Method, Minnesota; step-grandsons, Brian and Jason Griffith, Tampa, Fl.; step-granddaughters, Dawn Lawliss, Vermont, and Julie Merritt, Jasper; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; beloved daughter, Juli Bodman; and brother, Roland (Rollie) Safley.
Mr. John L. Pinson, age 59 of Dalton, Ga., departed this life Monday morning, June 22, 2009 at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton.
John was born Sept. 29, 1949 in Gilmer County, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Pinson; grandparents, Charles and Eunice Hughes and Lewis and Mary Pinson; sister, Sara Louise Boring; and spouse, Jenna Keener Pinson.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Celia and Clifford West, Ranger, Ga.; sister, Ann Brackett, Ellijay, Ga.; and special friend, Kathy Gossick, Dalton.
A service to celebrate John?s life was held Wednesday, June 24 at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Grove (Ryo) Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Owens and Ronnie Howard officiating. He was laid to rest in the church cemetery. The Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home in Fairmount was in charge of arrangements.
