Richard Blackwell
Mr. Richard Blackwell, age 44 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. He was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his father, Gene Blackwell, Jasper; daughter, Emily Blackwell, Texas; brother, Ricky Blackwell, Jasper; and sisters, Tammy Thackston and Nancy Pendley, both of Canton. One granddaughter and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 from Yellow Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Gene Hyde, Gary Poole and William Blackwell officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of the arrangements.

James Hancock
Mr. James T. Hancock, age 73 of the Hinton Community, passed Tuesday evening, Dec. 9, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Hancock, Hinton Community; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Hancock, Robbie and Robin Hancock, Charles Hancock, Richie and Paula Hancock and Joey and April Hancock, all of Hinton; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Perry Richardson, Rootville, Ga., and Kathy and Terry Easley, Talking Rock; and brother, Hubert Hancock, Talking Rock. Twenty-Five grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by a son, Harold Hancock.
The funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. from Town Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Russell Nations, Rembert Hancock and Hollis Crook officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Jerry Hancock, Tommy Duckett, Kenny and Danny Childers, Michael and Allen and Ronald Lee Evans serving as pallbearers. The nephews served as honorary pallbearers. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Hinton Fire Department, Town Creek Baptist Church or Hinton United Methodist Church. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Darren Moss
Mr. Darren Drew Moss, age 48 of Calhoun, Ga., passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
Mr. Moss was born Dec. 30, 1959 in Floyd County, son of the late William Doyle and Audrey Faye Morrison Moss. He had been self-employed as a floor covering installer.
Survivors include his brothers and sisters-in-law, William Drew and Justin Scott Moss, both of Jasper, Ga., David Lynn and Pat Moss and Merle Wayne Moss, all of Calhoun, and William Kirt and Cindy Moss, White, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Laurie and Garry Faw, Calhoun; and special nephew, Jimi Moss. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Baker officiating. Pallbearers were: Jimi Moss, Rocky Bennett, Jeff Holden and Mike Petty. Interment followed in the Franklin Cemetery.

Ruby Dean
Mrs. Ruby Lee Dean, age 60 of Jasper, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born May 1, 1948 in Pickens County, she was the daughter of the late Grady and Malva Mae Kay Silver. Mrs. Dean had retired in November 2006 from Appalachian Technical College where she taught cosmetology for 24 years. Since her retirement, she had worked at Northwest Salon in Jasper. Mrs. Dean was a member of Ball Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Jim Dean, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Clyde Cody, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Angie Dean, Jasper; grandchildren, Nicole McArthur, Jay and Tatem Dean and Cheyenne Cagle; sisters, Mrs. Audrey Crump, Mrs. Goldavee Davis and Mrs. Elsie Cox, all of Jasper; and brother, Mr. Sam Silver, Thomasville, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Leroy Kelley, Wallace Parks and Harold Cantrell officiating. Interment followed in Ball Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jay and Tatem Dean, Jimmy Cagle, Gary Mosley and Tracy and Tim Cox. Honorary pallbearers were: David Holden and Danny Towery.
