Rocille Allen of Ft. White, Fl. passed away on Oct. 25, 2008. She was 91.
Born in Union County, Fl., she lived most of her life in Ft.White. She was a retired seamstress and member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Ms. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell W. Allen.
Survivors include her children, W.A. Allen, Old Town, Fl., Dorothy MacManus and Larry Allen, both of Ft. White, and Gerald Allen, Jasper, Ga.; brothers, Albert and Mack Sweat, both of Raiford, Fl.; sister, Geneva Wallace, also of Raiford; and grandchildren, David MacManus, Donna Buchie, Lisa Barnett, George, Greg and Clay Allen and Amanda Holloway. Twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. from Shiloh Baptist Church in Ft. White with the Revs. Hugh Dampier and Lawrence Haley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, David MacManus, Havana, Fl., George Allen, Rutherfordton, N.C., Greg Allen, Jasper, Ga., Clay Allen, Ft. White, Fl., and great-grandsons, Bryan MacManus, Tallahassee, Fl., and Rusty Hood, Old Town, Fl. Arrangements were in the care of Evans-Carter Funeral Home, High Springs, Fl.
Mrs. Lema Goss, age 85 of Canton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 at Northside Hospital-Cherokee.
Mrs. Goss was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was an avid gardener, an excellent cook and enjoyed raising cows.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dean Goss; sisters, Betty Lathem and Ella Mac Evans; brothers, Fred, Jimmy, Henry and Leon Pettigrew; grandson, Ronnie Clay Chastain.
Survivors include her daughter, Carole Chastain, Canton; sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Jean Goss, Canton, and Stanley and Bridget Goss, Jasper; sisters, Maude Samples Brackett, Canton; Esther Woodring, Tybee Island; and grandchildren, Donna Johnson, Wanda Gallimore, Robin Dixon, Lisa Johnson, Rhonda Haynes, Robert and Sarah Goss. Fifteen grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Eugene Childers, C.B. Rogers and Larry Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park.
Mr. J.L. Byess, age 83 of the Clayton Community, passed away Thursday, Oct. 30,2008 at his residence.
Mr. Byess was a retired self-employed machinist and member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lora Mae Byess; sons, Jerry and Steve Byess, both of Jasper, Danny Byess, Ball Ground, and David Byess, Canton; daughter, Janice McClure, Jasper; step-son, Stanley Welchel, Jasper; step-daughters, Linda Swaney, Woodstock, and Deborah Welch, Ball Ground; brothers, Donas Byess, Jasper, and Billy Byess, Canton; and sisters, Sally Duncan, Marietta, and Geneal Nix, Mableton. Twenty grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. J.R. Smith, Henry Jones and Steve Jones officiating. Interment followed in Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
Ms. Peggy Curtis, age 83 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008 at her residence following a brief illness.
Born July 26, 1925 in Cobb County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Henry O. and Elizabeth Bond Galt. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Underwood Padgett; and granddaughter, Beth Underwood. Ms. Curtis had worked as a LPN at Wildwood Healthcare.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane Underwood, Jasper; son, Sonny Underwood, Jasper; grandchildren, Kristin Tarpley, Donna Underwood and Jamie Padgett; four great-grandchildren; and brother, William E. ?Buddy? Galt, Kennesaw, Ga. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles O. Walker officiating. Interment followed in Kennesaw City Park Cemetery in Kennesaw.
Mrs. Ozelle Blackwell, age 86 of Jasper (formerly of Ball Ground), passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 1, 2008 at her residence.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Teresa Blackwell, Jasper, and Robert and Peggy Blackwell, Ball Ground; daughter-in-law, Martha Blackwell, Ball Ground; and sister, Johnnie Robertson, Canton. Six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. James Rich and Clyde Boling officiating. Interment was in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Keith, Brent, Scott and Steve Blackwell, Tony Fountain and Michael Murphy.
Mr. Hoyt Crowe of the Hill City Community passed away Friday morning, Oct. 31, 2008 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Crowe, Hill City; sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Scottie Crowe, Keith and Jennifer Johnson and Randy and Melissa Johnson, all of Hill City, and Brian and Kerry Johnson, Salem Community; daughter, Janet Allgood, Powder Springs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Sue Crowe, Ball Ground, and J.W. and Shirley Crowe, Cartersville; and sister, Betty Wilson, White, Ga. Ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.

Mr. Ralph Holcomb, age 91 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Oct. 31, 2008 at St. Joseph?s Hospital in Atlanta.
Survivors include his wife, Leila Holcomb, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, James Lamar and Mary Holcomb, Jasper; daughter, Barbara Sue Tracy, Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Hubert Holcomb, Jasper, and Jack and Frances Holcomb, Henry Country; and sisters, Ailene Wheeler, Jasper, Judy Ghorley and Kathleen Gazaway, both of Canton. Six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

Mrs. Cheryl P. Pounds, age 52 of Hampton, Ga., died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008 at Heartland Hospice in Cartersville, Ga. following her battle with cancer.
Born Dec. 10, 1955 in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Payne. Mrs. Pounds was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest T. Pounds, Hampton; daughter, Crystal Ralph, Hampton; sons, Steven Hamrick, Jasper, and Donald Ralph, Hampton; mother, Mrs. Flo Weaver, Calhoun; grandchildren, Jesilyn, Katilyn, Joseph and Ashley Hamrick; and sisters, Melba Young, Fairmount, and Sandra Stapleton, Chatsworth. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4 from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike D. Henderson officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Zion Independent Methodist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County. Pallbearers were: James and Greg Young, Chance and Gavin Matthews, Ralph Cantrell and William Nix.
Mr. Wade T. Martin, age 77 of Fairmount, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Elene B. Martin, Fairmount; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Perry Hutson, Pilot Mountain, N.C.; step-son, Danny B. Childers, Douglasville; step-daughters, Debbie Kimbrell, Powder Springs, and Denise Wester, Lithia Springs; brothers, Sammy Martin, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Lanny Martin, Westfield, N.C.; and sisters, Eugenia Jessup, Pilot Mountain, and Glenda Alberty, Dobson, N.C. Eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by a brother, Caleb Martin; and sister, Ethel Riddle.
The family had a brief visitation at Cagle Funeral Home on Thursday evening, Oct. 30. The body was then taken to the Howell Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain. The remains were taken to Brown Mountain Baptist Church for a brief visitation and followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1 with the Rev Fred Chilton officiating. Carrie P. Wingard, age 88 of the North Cut Community, Ellijay, Ga., passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2008 at her home.
Ms. Wingard was born on May 18, 1920 in Blue Ridge, Ga. to her late parents, Thomas H. and Lassie Howard Totherow. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry B. Wingard. Ms. Wingard was a member of the Northcut Baptist Church and a retiree from the J&C Bedspread and Universal Carpet Mill.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Betty Wingard Rogers, Ellijay, and Sherry and Lanier Poole, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Troy and Sandra Wingard, Morganton, Ga., Jerry and Selina Wingard, Acworth, Ga., and Rick and Lisa Wingard, Ellijay, Ga.; sister, Eula Totherow Burn, Lenior City, Tn.; and brother, Nesbert ?Bud? Eller, Peachtree City, Ga. Twelve grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. from Logan Funeral Home Chapel in Ellijay with the Rev. Paul Richards officiating. Interment was in Sunlight Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jeff and Steve Rogers, Jody and Brian Poole, Thomas, Casey, Nate, Anthony and Michael Wingard, David Smith and Bobby Anderson.
