PHS prepares for graduation Saturday


As “Pomp and Circumstance” is played Saturday morning in the Pickens High School stadium, 245 graduates  will take the field to receive their hard-earned diplomas. 
    Following an invocation led by senior class vice-president and Mr. PHS Christian Gibson, the Pickens High Symphonic Winds will play the National Anthem.    
    Principal Eddie McDonald will introduce speaker Hannah Land, senior class secretary/ treasurer and science teacher Rodney Martin will deliver the message to the graduates.        
    Both this year’s valedictorian, Taylor Boggus, and salutatorian, Amber Shields, will deliver their speeches prior to Superintendent Dr. Ben Desper awarding diplomas.
    Makayla Angela, senior class president, will speak following the diploma presentation.

    The senior chorus ensemble will lead the school’s alma mater and the new graduates will be dismissed with their class song, “My Wish” by Rascal Flatts.
    The graduation ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Pickens County schools will provide free bus shuttle service to and from the PHS graduation ceremony. Buses will leave from and return to the parking lot at Chattahoochee Technical College and Pickens County Middle School.
    The service will begin at 7:45 a.m. from each location and continue with departures every 10 minutes. The last bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Please plan to arrive no later than 8:15 a.m. at the shuttle site.
    Handicap lift equipped buses have scheduled departures to PHS at 7:55 a.m. and 8:25 a.m.. Return service will begin 15 minutes after the ceremony ends and will continue with a departure every 15 minutes from the stadium area.
    The last shuttle will department from PHS 45 minutes after the ceremony ends.
    The shuttle service is free of charge. For more information, contact the transportation department at 706-253-1727 Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
