Mr. Max Wood, age 83 of Tate, Ga., died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Wildwood Healthcare Center Nursing Home in Talking Rock, Ga.
He was a member of the Cool Springs Baptist Church. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Wood was preceded in death by his parents, Cicero and Annie Roland Wood; and brothers, Bill and Ray Wood.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Wood; daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Mack Hipp, Ellijay, Ga., and Barbara and Mike Woodall, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Ginger Wood, Canton, Ga.; granddaughter, Maxie Woodall, Jasper; sister, Ruth Norris, Newnan; niece, Cathy Sandlin, Newnan; nephew, Blake Norris, Virginia Beach; great-niece, Elizabeth Pape, Newnan; special niece, Nancy Tatum Teague; and chosen daughter, Donna Underwood. Several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and Edna’s entire family also survives.
The funeral service was held at Roper Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, with Pete Jones and the Rev. David LeGrand officiating. Interment was at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, at 2. The family requests in lieu of flowers please make donations to either Wildwood Health Care, Georgia Mountains Hospice or to the Pickens County Chapter DAV. Arrangements were entrusted to Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper.
Vern F. Peterson “Pete,” age 93 of Acworth, passed away on April 22, 2013.
Vern was born on Jan. 11, 1920, in Syracuse, N.Y. Preceding him in death was his loving wife, Ruth Emma LaBoue Peterson.
Vern was a Decorated War Veteran, receiving two Distinguished Flying Crosses along with other awards flying in both World War II and the Korean War. He had the honor of serving in both the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the service Pete flew for Lockheed Martin as an Engineering Test Pilot for 20 years until his retirement in 1973. He was a kind and generous man and touched many lives during his time on earth. Family and friends will forever miss him.
He is survived by his children, Susan Blackwell and husband Kenneth, Duluth, Jeffrey Peterson and wife Linda, East Cobb, Glenn Peterson and wife Lynn, Acworth, and Cindy Arnold and husband Jay, Jasper. Pete was a proud grandfather, having 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren to cherish along with nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home, 2950 Cobb Pkwy., Kennesaw, Ga. (770-422-7299). Visitation at 2:30 with the service at 4. Mrs. Linda Jean May, age 66 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, Ga.
She was born April 11, 1947, in Flint, Mi., to the late Stanley and Vera Davis.
Survivors include her husband, Francis May, Talking Rock; sons, Scott Flick, Flint, Mi., and Bradley May, Kennesaw, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law, Karen McKay, Flint, Mi., and Evelyn and Glenn Smith, Flushing, Mi.; sisters and brother-in-law, Marsha Kelly, Flint, Mi., and Patricia and Steve Reo, Lepeer, Mi.; and brother, Steve Davis, Conway, Ar. Ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several other relatives also survive.
The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home on Saturday, May 4, from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma, City, Ok. 73123-1718.
Mr. Gary Skeen, age 73 of Talking Rock, entered into rest on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Skeen; sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Denise Skeen, Dallas, Ga., and Patrick and Jennifer Skeen, Cobb County; daughters and son-in-law, Wendi and Jack Boling and Tisha Skeen, all of Talking Rock. Mr. Skeen had 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Mount Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Ben Mock and Buddy Smith officiating. The family requests donations to be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church Youth Group. Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the family.
Mrs. Doris Fouts, age 87 of Marble Hill, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at her residence.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Wanda Fouts, Marble Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Robbie Dillard and Rhonda and Randy Lindsey, all of Marble Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Mildred Pendley, Marble Hill; sister, Wanda Dobson, Marble Hill; and grandchildren, Nathan and Caleb Fouts, Michael Starr, Benjamin Lindsey and Birdie Sara James. Several nieces and nephews, and special friend and caregiver, Kayce Massey.
The funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Phillip Burt, Mike Mize and Butch Roberts officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Larry and Lewis Starr, Fred Dobson, Kenny Heath and Carlton and Gary Pendley. Honorary pallbearers were: Robert Brown, Bob Colley, Don Anderson, Anthony Dobson and Jerry James.
