Mr. Odies Kenneth Stokes, age 69 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Cathy Stokes, Ellijay, and Steve Stokes, Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Glen Stokes, Flint, Mi., and David and Rita Stokes, Jasper,; sister and brother-in-law, Estelle and Daniel Fitts, Jasper; grandson, Doug and wife Brittany Stokes; and great-granddaughter, Kiley Stokes. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, April 2, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Cantrell, Bobby Segars and Russell Nations officiating. Interment followed at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Gilmer County. Pallbearers were: Doug Stokes, Jeff Raynes, Eric Hanna, David Carver, Tracy Ray and Michael Long. Honorary pallbearer was Truman Davis. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to Cagle Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
Mrs. Vivian F. Mathews, age 73 of Marble Hill, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Canton Nursing Center.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Stacey Mathews, Dawson County; daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Edward Allen, Marble Hill, Jane and Phil O’Bryant, Tate, and Cynthia and Junior Spriggs, Marble Hill; and sisters, Betty Butler, Ringgold, and Rachel Tatum, Canton. Five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Hamby officiating. Interment followed at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Ralph Mathews, Jason and James Satterfield, Matthew O’Bryant, Josh Sherriff and Jimmy Powell. Rena Mae Jordan
Mrs. Rena Mae Jordan, age 88 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Heritage Healthcare in Jasper, Ga.
Mrs. Jordan was born April 27, 1924, in Canton, Ga. She was the daughter of the late Lewis Franklin Richards and Lillie Mae Howard Richards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Jordan; and grandson, Wesley Jordan.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Lamar and Kay Jordan, Talking Rock, Franklin “Bug” and Patsy Jordan and Joe and Karen Jordan, all of Ball Ground; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Gordon Wilson, Ball Ground, Elone and Larry Ray, Nelson, and Ruth and Glenn Jordan, Ball Ground; and brother and sister-in-law, James and Eunice Richards, Stockbridge, Ga. She had 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at Bethesda Baptist Church with the Revs. James Rich and Greg Long officiating. Interment followed in the Ball Ground City Cemetery.
Mr. Jim Henry McDaniel, age 75 of Jasper, Ga., formerly of Kentucky, passed away April 1, 2013, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
He is survived by his son, Gregory Neal McDaniel, Boone County, Ky.; step-sons, Larry Setters, Florence, Ky., David Setters, Independence, Ky., and William and Joseph Setters, both of Florence, Ky. He is also survived by his daughters, Loretta Falsetti, Anna Marie Tillit and Kimberly Gail Anderson, all of Boone County, Ky.; step-daughters, Carla Moore, Birmingham, Al., Eva Barton, Live Oaks, Fl., and Nancy Crenshaw, Jasper; brothers, Arthur, Steve, Joe, Wayne, Russell and Johnny McDaniel, all of Boone County, Ky.; and sisters, Etta Francis, Hamilton, Oh., Susie Holton, Okeanna, Oh., and Lilla Mae Maillicoat and Jean Vance, both of Boone County, Ky. Twenty-four grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Lynn Bainton; brother, Albert Lee McDaniel; and sisters, Katherine Ann McGraw and Angela Lainhart.
Visitation was held at Cagle Funeral Home in Jasper on Wednesday, April 3. Stith Funeral Home in Florence, Ky., was in charge of funeral services. Interment was held at Belleview Cemetery in Belleview, Ky. The family requested in lieu of flowers donate to the charity of you choice.
Mrs. Thelma Madeline Word, age 75 of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born Nov. 14, 1937, in Goodland, In., she was the daughter of the late Walter Evan Beasley and Mable May Ginn Beasley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Allen “Bill” Word. Mrs. Word had worked as a custodian with the Pickens County Board of Education and was a member of the Ludville Church of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include daughter and sons-in-law, Charlotte and James Ingram, and Pamela Ledbetter, all of Jasper, Sheila and Jack Woodworth, Florida, Brenda Porter, North Carolina, Debbie and Steve Bennett, Florida, and Leslie Carver, Talking Rock, Ga.; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken Word, Newnan, Ga., Larry and Lisa Word, Florida, and William and Marlene Word, Jasper; sisters and brother-in-law, Melody Paris, Imogene Tackett and Betty and Gene Bales, all of Florida; and brother and sister-in-law, David and Barbara Beasley, Florida. Numerous grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 5, from the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ernest Hughes and Annette Cross officiating. Interment followed in Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton, Ga.
Mr. John Robert Cobb, age 53 of Ellijay, Ga., passed away Friday April 5, 2013, at Roswell Nursing Home & Rehabilitation Center in Roswell, Ga., following a period of declining health.
Mr. Cobb was born May 1, 1960, in Atlanta, Ga., and was preceded in death by his father, David Carlton Cobb. He was employed by Marietta Drywall and was a residential contractor.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Irene Cobb, Ellijay; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeana and Mark Gray, Madisonville, Tn., Jessica and Mark Sanzo, Emerson, Ga., and Elizabeth Amanda and Chuck Brackett, Madisonville, Tn.; son and daughter-in-law, John Robert Cobb, Jr. and Catherine, Baytown, Tx.; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Jean and Eugene Anderson, Talking Rock, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Dee Cobb, Ellijay; grandchildren, Bradin and Skyler Gray, Madison and Matthew Cobb, Emily Gray Sanzo and Leah Faith Sanzo; nephew, Jeremy and Cassandra Ashburn, Ellijay; and nieces, Anna Ashburn and Kimberly and Patrick Poss, all of Ellijay.
At his request, Mr. Cobb was cremated and a private family service will be held. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home of Jasper.
Rev. Johnny William Garrison, age 61 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence, following a period of declining health.
Mr. Garrison was born Nov. 17, 1952, in Jasper. He served in the National Guard and was the agency manager for Farm Bureau Insurance for 35 Years. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Clifford Garrison.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Janice Garrison, Jasper; son Jason Garrison, Jasper; mother, Chloe Garrison, Jasper; and sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Jerry Clonts and Sue Stephens, all of Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bobby Segars and Robert Allen officiating. Interment followed in Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Billy Randall (Randy) Flowers, age 52 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
Mr. Flowers was born June 16, 1961, in Cartersville, Ga. He was preceded in death by his father, L.B. Flowers, Sr.
Survivors include his children, Brittany, Crystal, Frank and Joshua; mother, Mary Flowers, Jasper,; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Gary Floyd, Monroe, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, L.B. and Melodie Flowers, Jasper; and uncle and aunt, Freddie and Pam Flowers, Rome, Ga. Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Carol Edna Patterson, age 84 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Feb. 8, 2013, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born April 13, 1928, in Woodlawn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Clifford and the Elizabeth Weiss Curtis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Philip Henry Patterson, Jr. Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a member of the Pine Level United Methodist Church in Arcadia, Fl.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Philip Clifford and Donna Patterson, Tallahassee, Fl.; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Glenn Absolom, Orchard Park, N.Y., Deborah and Timothy Snow, Jasper, and Carol Jeanne and Steve Wagnon, Atlanta; and sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Christopher Hughey, Arcadia, Fl.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 13, from 1-3 p.m. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m Saturday, April 13, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David LeGrand officiating.
Infant daughter of Michael D. and Katherine Jones Hyatt of Jasper, Ga., passed Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Northside Hospital of Cherokee in Canton, Ga.
Survivors, other than parents, include the following: grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willard and Mary Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Doug and Cathy Hyatt, all of Ellijay, Ga.; and aunts and in-laws, Jamie and Travis Hodges, Ellijay, Ga., and Amy and Michael Fonseca, Powder Springs, Ga.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 12, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jamie Kerr and William Faucett officiating. Music will be by the Salem Baptist Church Choir. Graveside interment will follow in the Hyatt Cemetery at the Tails Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Friday from noon-2 at Logan Funeral Home and Chapel in Ellijay.
Mr. Bruce Boyer Huntington, age 81, died April 5, 2013.
He was born in Lansing, Mi., son of Zelpha Fields and Floyd Huntington. His family moved many times in Bruce’s first nine years. They arrived in Marietta, Ga., on Pearl Harbor Day. He attended Marietta City Schools and was a charter member of the St. Stephens United Methodist Church. He served his county during the Korean War in the Army’s 82nd Airborne. After his discharge, he attended Southern Tech in Chamblee.
He married Maureen Presley and raised three children in Marietta. He was a Boy Scout Master for 17 years and was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church.
After he retired from Lockheed in 1987, he and his wife moved to Bent Tree in Jasper. He joined the Lions Club where he served as a president and received The Lion of the Year Award and the Melvyn Jones Award. Before his health deteriorated, Mr. Huntington was a mentor at the middle school and enjoyed helping with the cooking at the Wednesday night suppers at the Jasper United Methodist Church. He was a member of Local Chapter 47 DAV in Pickens County.
He was an avid fisherman and active in the Lake and Wildlife activities at Bent Tree. Mr. Huntington loved his family, country and his community. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maureen Presley Huntington; daughters, Katherine Huntington, Jasper, and Ann Corrigan (David), Acworth; son, Collins (Lora), Woodstock; and grandsons, Jake (Micah) and Kevin Corrigan and Ben and Isaac Huntington. Bruce also leaves to cherish his memory his Yorky, Cooper, and his Min Pin, Harry Truman.
A memorial service was held at Jasper United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, with the Rev. Preston Jones officiating. Interment was at Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of military rites. Instead of flowers, the family asks for donations to Georgia Mountains Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, Ga. 30143, and JUMC Building Fund, 85 West Church St., Jasper, Ga. 30143. Malcum RT Bruce, age 80 of Dawsonville, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013, at his residence following an extended illness.
Born July 29, 1932, to the late Lonnie and Pearlie Bruce, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mr. Bruce worked as a stone cutter for the Georgia Marble Company in Nelson where he retired after 40 years of service. Mr. Bruce was a member of the Dawsonville Church of God of Prophecy.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Barney and Ray Bruce; and sisters, Bobbie Anderson and Jane Barrett.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Bruce, Dawsonville; daughters and sons-in- law, Tammy and Keith Chester and Tracy and Russell Cowart, all of Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Terrell and Lisa Bruce, Dawsonville; grandchildren and spouses, Harmony and Cory Gee, Corey Bruce, Cherish and Cory Gilleland, Danielle and Russ Chambers, Quincey Bruce, Carissa Cowart and Gabriel Cowart; great-grandchildren, Amelia Gee, Lilly and Ellie Chambers, Keyleigh and Canaan Gilleland and Wyatt Chambers; sisters, Nettie Millwood, Kathryn Hubbard, Eunice Bruce, Janice Daniel, Judy Bruce, Carolyn Hicks and Julie Honea; and brother, Ralph Bruce. A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

William Stanfield, Jr.
Mr. William C. Stanfield, Jr., age 84 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed away Friday, April 5, 2013, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Stanfield was born June 16, 1928, in Pickens County. He was the son of the late William, Sr. and Ila Mae Wooten Stanfield.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and he retired from Lockheed Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Stanfield, Jasper; son, John Stanfield, Ball Ground; daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Leon Gay and Casey and Johns Childers, all of Canton; grandchildren, William and Rebekah Gay and Seth and Cade Stanfield; sister, Patricia Denson, Talking Rock; and nieces, Sondra Jones and Jackie Pool, Jasper. Mr. Stanfield is preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Teresa Stanfield.
The funeral services was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Lewis and the Rev. Kenneth Godfrey officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Max Herschel Beardslee, age 73, died peacefully at his mountain home in Jasper, Ga., on Monday, April 1, 2013, after vigorously surviving with cancer for several years.
Max was born in Sheridan, Mi., and graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree. He was also a Captain in the United States Air Force for five years. He began a business career with IBM and continued in the computer and software industry until he made a successful segue into the mortgage industry by starting his own business, Maxwell Financial.
Max was a member of Big Canoe Writers Group and celebrated being a published author of International Business Marionettes. He was an avid golfer with an interminable spirit and a sharp sense of humor and his exit from this earth on April Fools’ Day couldn’t have been more fitting.
He is survived by three sons, their wives and three beautiful grandchildren. John Beardslee and his wife Susan reside in Chandler, Az., with sons Aidan and Andrew. Stephen Beardslee and his wife Ashley reside in Johns Creek, Ga., with daughter Genevieve. Chris Beardslee and his wife Aimee reside in Tallahassee, Fl. Max has one sister, Marcia Hammontree, Grand Rapid, Mi.; and one brother, Denny Beardslee, Sheridan, Mi.
Visitation was held at Cagle Funeral Home on April 4. Interment and graveside prayers was held at the Georgia Nations Cemetery in Canton, Ga., on April 5. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Max’s honor to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Hospice in Atlanta, Ga., or the charity of your choice.

Winston G. Bruce, age 83 of Jasper, Ga., passed away April 2, 2013, at Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Bruce, Jasper; son and daughter-in-Law, David and Jan Bruce, Jasper; sisters and brother-in-law, Jane and Lawrence Mulkey, Alpharetta, Ga., and Grace Kirk, Talking Rock, Ga.; and sister-in-law, Rachel Bruce, Canton. Several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survives.
The funeral service was held at Bethany Baptist Church on Friday, April 5, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Grant Wade, Gene Childers and Randy Weaver officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Matt Cagle, Bruce Mulkey, Johnny Sperin, Ben Gilleland, Pete Walker, Justin Dean, Doog Cagle and David Johnson. Amicalola Electric Board of Directors served as honorary pallbearers. Mr. James Ernest Hood, age 64 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a sudden illness.
Born Nov. 25, 1948, in Duluth, Ga., he was the son of the late Ernest Hugh and Dorothy Wannita Osborne Hood. Mr. Hood was a U.S. Army veteran, had worked as a CNC Operator at Lockheed and was a member of the Tucker Christian Church in Tucker, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Hood, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Al Dial, Phoenix, Az., and Lori and Russell Smith, Dawsonville, Ga.; grandchildren, Brooklyn and Bentley Dial and Georgia and Phoenix Smith; and sisters, Linda Hood, Lake Park, Ga., and Janie Hood, Lilburn, Ga. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
At his request, Mr. Hood was cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements and services were entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper.
