Students in various Agriculture and Horticulture classes at PHS have been busy the last couple of months preparing the greenhouse at Pickens High School for the spring planting season. The students stay busy throughout the year transplanting, fertilizing and watering the plants which, for some, may take as long as six months to reach a size that is ready for sale. While the students work in the greenhouse, they are applying information they have been learning in the classroom. The greenhouse activities tend to be great motivators for the students.
This year, the annual Spring Plant Sale will begin on Thursday, April 11. The sale will run each day, Thursday the 11th and Friday the 12th, from 2 to 5 for plant purchases. The greenhouse will also be open on Saturday, April 13, from 8-noon. After the first few days, the greenhouse continues the sale of tomatoes and other vegetables on a limited basis. Customers can call anytime to see what is available. We have ferns, hanging baskets, bedding plants, perennials and vegetables. The sale will take place in the PHS Agricenter next door to the greenhouse. This location provides much more room to browse and purchase the plants. We will have students available to help with your purchases and loading. If possible, we ask that you pay by check made payable to PHS to help with our record keeping.
If you need further information you can call Joe Wright at Pickens High School. The Agriculture Education Program looks forward to seeing you, starting April 11 to help assist you with your spring gardening needs.
