Warren Hardage, Jr.
Rufus “Warren” Hardage, Jr., 77, of Jasper, Ga., died Wednesday, March 6, 2013.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Miriam Hardage, Jasper; daughters, Marie Hines and her husband Charles, Cumming, Janet Allen, Marietta, and Diane Parker and her husband Billy, Jasper; son, Bill Hardage and his wife Brenda, Marietta; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; niece, Debbie Ray and her husband Alan; and nephew, Randy Yancey.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with the Rev. Chip Wilson officiating. Interment was in Mt. View Cemetery in Marietta.
Mr. Ira Holden, age 72 of Talking Rock, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Holden, Talking Rock; son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Ruth Holden, Jasper; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Randall Gilreath and Linda and Steven Cantrell, all of Jasper; brother, Billy Holden, Canton; and sisters, Faye Mooney, Canton, Shirley Lawson, Jasper, and Barbara Beck, Acworth. Eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. John Holoway, John Padgett, Steve Chadwick and Leroy Kelley officiating. Interment followed at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery in Nelson. Pallbearers were: Charlie Buchanan, Ronald Matthews, Mark Eubanks, Steve
Chapman and Harold and Darold Collier.
Willie E. “Bill” White, age 92 of Sellers St., Jasper, died Saturday, March 9, 2013.
Mr. White was born May 23, 1920, in Marble Hill, Ga., the son of the late James and Cassie Adams White. He was retired from Georgia Marble as a machinist, he served in the US Army Air Corp in WWII, was a member and deacon of the Marble Hill Baptist Church and Past Master of Tate Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Hightower White; and grandson, Chris White.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Susan White and Michael and Vickie White, all of Jasper; grandchildren, Julie and Neal Childs, Ft. Worth, Tx.; and great-grandchildren, Avery and Aden Childs.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, March 12, at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Mock officiating. Interment was held in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with military rites by the Pickens Chapter 47 DAV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Building Fund, 1036 N. Main St., Jasper, Ga. 30143, or Pickens Library Building Fund, 100 Library Lane, Jasper, Ga. 30143 in memory of Mr. White.
Betty Jean Sorensen
Mrs. Betty Jean Sorensen, age 80 of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 30, 1932, in Wheeler, Il., she was the daughter of the late Arley Ellis Kirkham and Leah Jessie Cooley Kirkham. Mrs. Sorensen had worked as a manager of an IGA Grocery Store and was a member of the Mountain View Alliance Church.
Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Sorensen, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, DeEtta and Dave Daily, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Dixie Sorensen, Hiawassee; grandchildren, Heather Hogan, Jasper, Brooke and Jake Hopkins, Woodstock, Ga., and Joseph Sorensen and Leah Sorensen, both of Hiawassee, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Carter and Sawyer Hogan, Audrey and Alex Hopkins and Sage Sorensen; and sister, Dorthea Gibbs, Hemphill, Tx.;
At her request, Mrs. Sorensen was cremated and a memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, from Mountain View Alliance Church. Pastor Ed Pattorff will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, Ga. 30143.
