This is dedicated to celebrating the life of April McKenzie, devoted mother and wife.
She is survived by her husband, Paul McKenzie; daughter, Becky Hollaway (partner, Mary Campbell); and sons, Mike and Todd Hollaway (wife, Susy) and their children, Dallas, Sara and Brodie Malcom, Stephen, Wesley, Lexi, Jason and Lindsey. She is also survived by her step-children, Dale (wife, Paulette), Jeff (wife, Sherri) and Karen (husband, Jeff).
April was born on April 18, 1940, and passed away on Feb. 25, 2013. She was a devoted spouse and mother with a passion and deep love for her family and animals. She and Paul retired to Jasper, Ga., after years of running a successful dry cleaning business.

Jerry A. Stanfield, age 72 of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, in Redmond Regional Hospital.
Jerry was born August 9, 1940, in Gordon County, son of the late John Henry Stanfield and Eunice Shepherd Stanfield. He was president of Stanfield Paving Company and was a charter member of the College Street Church of God and had been attending the Resaca Assembly of God. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and besides his parents was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Stanfield.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Stanfield; sons, Tim Stanfield and his wife Sabrena, John Stanfield and his wife Lori and Mark Stanfield and his wife Kim, all of Calhoun; daughter; Kim Gravitt and her husband Tony, Plainville; sisters; Brenda Holliman and her husband Harold, Cartersville, and Carolyn Loudermilk and her husband Billy, Adairsville; brother, Ricky Stanfield, Cartersville; grandchildren, Jason Woodward and his wife Patricia, Josh Stanfield and his wife Jessica, Ryan Stanfield, Shelby Stanfield and Zack Gravitt; great-grandchildren, Skyler and Briar Woodward, Stryder and Wyatt Stanfield and Hayden and Jacob Gravitt.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m. from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with the Revs. Jimmie Timms and Terry Timms officiating. Burial followed in Chandler Cemetery with the Rev. Maynard Thomas in charge of graveside rites. Music was arranged by Donna Gay, Gail Brake, Wayne and Karen Fauber. Pallbearers were: Jason Woodward, Joshua Stanfield, Zachary Gravitt, Scott Stanfield, Terry Davis, Eric Allen and Phillip Shephard. Honorary pallbearers were: Jay Taylor, Melvin Kimbrell, John Offutt, Dee Chapman, Jeff Black, Duck King, Jeff Mulkey, Zack Grizzle, Jerry Newport, John Martin and Chris Watson.
Mrs. Mary Byess, age 70 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at her residence.
Mrs. Byess was of the Baptist faith. She loved helping and taking care of her family and enjoyed crocheting.
Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Don Byess, Jasper; siblings, Charles McCoy, Jasper, Eva Biddy, Ball Ground, Dorothy Hendrix, Jasper, and Arnold McCoy of Ball Ground; step-children, Donny Byess, Fairmount, Kenneth and Tim Byess, Melissa Cronan and Brian Byess, all of Canton. Several step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Revs. Mike Byess and Horace Biddy officiating. Interment followed in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Steve Gilbert Reece, age 57 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Mr. Reece was born on Oct. 13, 1955, in Calhoun, Ga. He was a retired truck driver and is preceded in death by his father, Kimsey Gilbert Reece.
Survivors include his wife, Lillie Sue Parks Reece, Talking Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Caroline Black and Eddie Goley, Talking Rock, and Kathy and Terry Rochester, Ranger, Ga.; mother, Willie Reece, Virginia; grandchildren, Justin Dickerson, Tasha Reece, Caleb Dickerson, Shannel Groover and Bethany Goley; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Phillip Reece, Jasper, and Joe Reece, Virginia; sister, Kay Overly, Villa Rica, Ga; and sisters-in-law, Gloria Burrage and Elizabeth Suggs, both of Ranger.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Bernhardt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jimmy Hulen Moss, age 71 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Heritage Hospice in Marietta, Ga.
Born May 22, 1941, in Talking Rock, Ga., he was the son of the late Donnie Hulen Moss and Ellese Dean Womack. Mr. Moss was a mechanic having owned and operated Moss Imports in Marietta.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Ken Gurovich, Woodstock, Ga., and Jamie and Ken Worley, Marietta; grandchildren, Katie and Ryan Koudele, Woodstock, Sarah and Justin Denham, Acworth, Ga., and Lindsey Worley and Kathryn Levert, both of Marietta; great-grandchildren, Riley Denham, Reece Koudele and Wren White; sister and brother-in-law, Menlia and Bob Trammell, Luthersville, Ga.; and brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Carol Womack, Jasper. Nieces and nephews also survive.
At his request, Mr. Moss was cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. The family requests that flowers be omitted and donations be made to the ALS Association of Georgia, 1955 Cliff Valley Way, N.E., Suite 116, Atlanta, Ga. 30329. Mr. Jerry Mewborn, age 64 of Jasper, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Mewborn, Jasper; sons, Bobby, Travis and David Gilreath, all of Jasper; daughter, Becky Voyles, Jasper,; brothers, Robert Mewborn, Jasper, Lonnie Mewborn, Austell, Ronnie Bimbo Mewborn, Ellijay, and David Mewborn, Jasper; and sisters, Linda Mewborn, Adel, and Geraldine Mewborn, Jasper. Twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with Pastor Franklin King and the Rev. Tom McTaggart officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: David, Bobby and Travis Gilreath, Austin and Dakota Davis and Justin Martin. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to Cagle Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses.
Earl “Rex” Cowart, age 75, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013, at his home in Talking Rock, Ga.
He was born June 3, 1937, in Carroll County to the late Mr. William Guy Cowart and Mrs. Mary Haynes Cowart. He retired from the US Postal Service after 33 years of service, having last served as the Post Master in Franklin, Ga. He retired from the US Army Reserves after more than 20 years of service to his country. He was a member of the Foothills Community Church and Carroll Masonic Lodge #69 F&AM.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Walker Cowart; brothers, Thomas and Eugene Cowart; sisters, Elizabeth Weathington and Verdie Nunnally.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Cowart, Talking Rock; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Cindy Cowart, Carrollton, and Kim and Marnie Cowart, Bowdon; daughter and son-in- law, Cindy and Bert Hall, Carrollton; sister, Evelyn Moore, Bowdon; brothers, W.G. Cowart, Carrollton, Travis Cowart, Illinois, Terry Cowart, Temple, and Don Cowart, Virginia; and grandchildren, Chris and Jason Hall, Jeffery Cowart, Kelly Bass, Jessica Kearney and Laura Hall. Four great-grandchildren also survive.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 5, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with the Rev. W.G. Cowart and Pastor John Reale officiating. Honorary pallbearers were: Chris and Jason Hall and Jeffery Cowart. Inurnment followed in Carroll Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Parkinson Disease Foundation, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10305.

Mr. Walter Carver, age 81 of Jasper, passed away Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Grace Carver, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Penny Carver, Jasper; step-daughters and step-son-in-law, Jeanette Lee and Betty Jean and Guy Mullins, all of Jasper; brothers, Preston Carver, Jasper, Vernon Carver, Ryo Community, Deano Carver, Talking Rock, and Troy Carver, Jasper; and sister; Eva Mae Blackwell, Jasper. two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, four step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Thomas officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Travis Hulsey, Allan and Tommy Carver, Joey Parker, Roger Godfrey and Richard Garrett.
