Mrs. Dossie Mae Allen, age 97 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at the Wildwood Healthcare Center in Talking Rock, Ga.
Born Nov. 23, 1915, in Gilmer County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Hershel Garland Young and Julia Loudermilk Young. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Allen.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a member of the County Line Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Joyce Allen, Talking Rock; grandson, Scott Allen, Cartersville, Ga.; and great-grandson, Kyle Allen, Cartersville, Ga. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, from the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jess Posey officiating. Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Charles Garritt Poole, age 60 of Kennesaw, Ga., passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
He was retired from Lockheed Martin.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara “June” Hackney Poole, Kennesaw; father, Charlie Poole, Jasper; daughter, Jessica Lynn Poole, Marietta; and brothers, Tim Poole, Terry Hester and Shyrel Thomas.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17th from Roper Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park, Jasper.
Joe Ann Wright
Mrs. Joe Ann Wright, age 81 of Jasper, passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at her residence.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Joyce Wright, Jasper; and sisters, Margaret Lewis and Gwendlyn Mitchell, both of Montevallo, Al. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be planned at a later date. The family requests in lieu of flowers donate to local Chapter 47 DAV. Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the Wright family.
Mrs. Carolyn Bagwell Mitton, age 83 of Jefferson, Ga., went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013. Mrs. Mitton was born in Downsville, La., a daughter of the late Vollie Jack and Eunice Rush Bagwell.
Mrs. Mitton along with her husband began ministering at Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson in 1961 where she taught Sunday School for 40 plus years, served as a Missionary for the Virgin Islands and was Dean of Women at Tennessee Temple University. Mrs. Mitton obtained her Master’s in Science and Divinity, and was a lifelong educator having taught school in the Jefferson City Schools, Athens Christian School and retiring with the Jackson County School System. She loved her family and loved her Church. “Your walk talks, and your talk talks, but let your walk talk louder than your talk talks.”
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mitton is preceded in death by her grandchildren, Alex Mitton, Holly Fouche and Tiffany Pullman; and a sister, Gloria Jane Bagwell.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Gerald Mitton, Jefferson; daughters and sons-in-law, Miriam and Roger Taylor, Morgantown, Ky., and Susan and David Fouche, Jefferson; and son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Amy Mitton, Jasper. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. in the Faith Baptist Church in Jefferson with the Revs. Terry Wofford and Bill Carpenter officiating. The burial was in the Woodbine Cemetery, Jefferson. Flowers were optional with memorials made to the Jefferson City School System Foundation, 575 Washington Street, Jefferson, Ga. 30549, or a charity of your choice.
