Artist applications now being accepted

Jasper ArtFest organizers are breathing new life into this year’s event with the addition of an outdoor painting competition on Main Street in Jasper.
“En Plein Air” is a French expression that translates to “in the open air.” In the art world it quite simply means painting outdoors, on location.
ArtFest organizers added the Plein Air Paint Out Celebration in hopes of bringing an exciting element for event-goers, and to encourage more artists to get involved.
The Plein Air Paint Out will be open to artists age 18 and older. Artists will be asked to bring their blank canvases, boards and paper to the Sharptop Arts Association on Saturday, April 20. The boards will be stamped and artists will then choose a location on Main Street in downtown Jasper, from The Woodbridge Inn south to the corner of South Main Street and Spring Street, set up their easels and get to work.
Artists can also set up on D.B. Carroll Street down to the Sharptop Arts Association.
Contestants have from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to complete their piece. The completed, stamped piece must be delivered to the Sharptop building by 5 p.m. Saturday, and will then be put on display for exhibition and sale the following day, Sunday, April 21.
Judging of the entries will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Sharptop, with the $150 for Best in Show, $100 to 2nd Place and $50 to 3rd Place.
The Plein Air Paint Out Celebration is also acting as a fundraiser for the Sharptop Arts Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit, which will retain 20 percent commission from the exhibition sales.
