Pauline June Conover, age 83, passed away on Jan. 23, 2013, at the home of her son, Addison Clifton Conover, Jr. in Jasper, Ga., where she had been living.
She was born March 15, 1929, at the home of her parents, Kenneth and Bertha (Beaty) Gould in Sadorus, Il. Pauline married Addison C. “Add” Conover on Sept. 15, 1947. She earned her GED at the age of 37. She raised chickens, rabbits and children.
When all seven children were at home growing up, she canned more than 500 gallons of vegetables and soup a year. She enjoyed many hobbies, including bowling, gardening, crocheting and sewing, dancing, birds and flowers. Her favorite flowers were orchids. Pauline was an avid reader. She crocheted and quilted lap robes that she donated to local nursing homes. She retired from Eureka Williams Company in Bloomington, Il., after 20 years of service. Mrs. Conover was a member of the DeLand United Methodist Church in DeLand, Il.
Survivors include her children, Luther K. “Luke” Conover and wife Robin, Champaign, Il., Linda L. Buchanan (whose husband Kenneth is deceased), of DeLand, Addison Clifton Conover, Jr. and wife Ginny, Jasper, Carol C. “Chris” Goodwin, Springfield, Tn., Patricia J. “Pat” Hansen and husband Bob, Hagerstown, In., and Allen B. Conover and fiancee, Myra Ritz, Greentop, Mo.; and sister, Karen (Gould) Lee and husband Don, Champaign. Twenty-four grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren and cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia “Belle” (Gould) Pittman; an infant son, Charles Clifton Conover; a daughter, Ima Jean (Conover) Solverud; a grandson, Jeremy Conover; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth “Beth” Goodwin.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, from the Chapel of Mittendorf-Calvert Funeral Home in Champaign, Il., with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. Mrs. Inez H. Clark, age 63 of Jasper, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Mrs. Clark was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 30 years, George Clark, Jasper; children, Heather Beasley, Jasper, and Nathan Beasley, Ellijay; step-child, Jodi Clark, Hinton; and sisters, Joyce Parker, Carolyn McCollum and Gail Weaver, all of Jasper, Shirley McDowell, Talking Rock, Nina Mayfield, Jasper, and Melissa Richards, Colbertson, N.C. Six grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, from Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Sister Christy Bain and Pastor Chris Lawson officiating. Interment followed in Arbor Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Pickens County.
Otis Morgan, Jr.
Ret. SFC Otis W. Morgan, Jr., age 81 of Decatur, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., following a period of declining health.
Born June 22, 1931, in Pickens County, Ga., he was the son of the late Otis W. Morgan, Sr. and Viola Talley Morgan. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Gwen Lee; and two brothers, Jack and Luther Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict and retired after 24 years of service. In later years, he and his wife Idella owned and operated Morgan’s Seafood in Decatur, Ga. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #545 F&AM Prince Hall and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Jasper.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Idella Morgan, Decatur; daughter, Leneva Morgan, Atlanta; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Colleen Morgan, Stone Mountain, Ga., and Evan and Elaine Morgan, Lithonia, Ga.; grandchildren, Katharina, Dominique, Neal, Evan, Jr., Christopher and Imani Morgan; great-grandchild, Lylah Morgan; sisters, Rosa Boyd, Barbara Harris, Joan Jackson and Constance Berry, all of Atlanta; and brothers, Eugene and Anthony Morgan, both of Atlanta. Nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, from the Friendship Baptist Church in Jasper with the Revs. R.S. Thomas, Scott McClure and Leo Hampton officiating. Interment followed in Norton Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Mr. Otis W. Morgan, Jr., 17 Executive Park Dr., N.E. # 115, Atlanta, Ga. 30329.

Mr. Bret McConnell, age 46 of Saldotna, Ak., passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his residence.
Survivors include his mother, Mary McConnell, Jasper; father, Lloyd McConnell, Fort Sumner, N.M.; grandmother, Violet McConnell, Anchorage, Ak.; son, Jesse Aaron McConnell, Anchorage; and brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Juley McConnell, Anchor Point, Ak. Several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
Bret was preceded in death by his grandparent, Lloyd McConnell, Sr., and maternal grandparents, Roy and Leila Poole.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Cagle Funeral Home was honored to serve the McConnell family.
