Willie Holden

Mr. Willie Holden, age 67 of Ball Ground, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at Northside Cherokee Hospital.

Willie owned and operated Holden Saw Mill in Ball Ground. He was Baptist and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Regina Holden, Ball Ground; son, Scott (Rita) Holden, Ball Ground; grandsons, Jonathan and Jesse Holden, both of Ball Ground; and siblings, Ollie (Doris) Holden, Dorothy Holden, Nell Holden and Jackie Blackwell, all of Ball Ground. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Tony Green and  James Rich officiating. Interment followed in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.

Thomas Mullinax

Mr. Thomas Edward Mullinax, age 63 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at his residence.

Born on Feb. 6, 1949, to the late Cecil Mullinax and Alice Childers Mullinax, Mr. Mullinax worked for Kent’s Feed and Seed.

He is survived by his wife, Delores H. Mullinax, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Doug Henry, Italy; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dawn Mullinax, Blue Ridge, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mamie and Ronnie Forrester, Jasper, and Coleen and O.T. Mullinax, South Carolina; and brother, Buddy Mullinax, Marietta, Ga.

At his request, Mr. Mullinax was cremated. A private memorial service was held for family and friends. Roper Funeral Home in Jasper in charge of the arrangements.


Charles Paris

Mr. Charles F. Paris, age 79 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Halcyon Hospice in Atlanta, Ga., following a period of declining health.

Born on July 12, 1933 in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Lewie Melford and Clara Margaret Gay Paris Mehutes, Mr. Paris worked as a retired Chief Petty Officer for the United States Government.

He is survived by his daughters, Tammy Lynn Paris, Ellenwood, Ga., and Sonya Paris Reynolds, Jasper; grandchildren, Stacie Lea Meachum, Jessica Candace Reynolds, Emily Sky Mercer, Makayla Paris and Amber Michelle Sprague; great-grandchild, Kinsey Jordan Sprague; sisters, Jane Paris McCrary, Margaret Paris Parrish, Sue Paris Walker, Margaret Mehutes Wilson and Nancy Lea Paris; brother, Thomas M. Mehutes; and many nieces and nephews also survive. Mrs. Paris was preceded in death by his siblings, Elener Paris Nold, Ronald Owen Paris, and Charles F. Mehutes.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with interment following at the Lake Forest Memorial Park with full military honors.


Stella Mulkey

Mrs. Stella Mae Mulkey, age 87 of Dawsonville, Ga., passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at her residence.

Survivors include her sons, Wayne, Richard and Donald Mulkey, all of Dawsonville; daughters, Barbara Perry, Dawsonville, and Pamela Niman, Jasper; brothers, Ernest (Pap), Clifford (Crook), Billy and Fay Howard, all of Jasper, Ben Howard, Dawsonville, and George Howard, Nelson; and sisters, Jeannie Howard and JoAnn Hayes, both of Jasper, and Lois Brett, Canton Nineteen grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at 11 .m. Friday, July 27, at the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Ben Howard officiating.  Interment followed at Lake Forest Memorial Park.  Pallbearers were: Timmy Howard, Cody Reidling, Scott, Lee, Dwayne, Stevie, Greg and Derek Mulkey.


Nan Holt

Mrs. Nan Craven Holt. age 74 of Holt Road in Blairsville, passed away on Monday July 23, 2012, in Marietta, Ga., following an extended illness.

Mrs. Holt was born on Jan. 29, 1938, in Tallapoosa, Ga., the daughter of the late Acca and the late Bernice Bagwell Craven. Nan was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Lee” Holt, in 2000. Mrs. Holt was of the Methodist faith.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Tina Holt, Ellijay, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Joe Rogers, Marietta; grandchildren, Arden, Brooke and William Lee Holt III; and nephew and niece-in-law, Joe Jr. and Tammy Rogers, Marietta. Many other relatives and friends also survive.

The funeral service was held on Tuesday July 24, at 11 a.m. from the Shady Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Fred Lodge officiating. Special music was presented by Carolyn Filer. Interment followed in the Shady Grove Church Cemetery where she will rest next to her beloved husband, Lee. The family met with friends at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Shady Grove Methodist Church cemetery Fund in Mrs. Holt’s memory. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville in charge of the arrangements.



Doris Floyd

Doris D. Floyd, age 72 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital, Jasper.

Survivors include her husband, Philip Floyd; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Lesley Floyd, Jasper, and Stephen and Eilene Floyd, Asheville, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Earl Towery, Ellijay; grandchildren, Katlin and Erin Floyd; nieces, Holly Boothe, Brenda Cushman, Mary Jo Brown, Patsy Bensen, Debbie Quarles, Sandra Beasley, Sonia Stokes, Laura Sorrells and Ellie Boothe; and nephews, Bob and Tony Payne, Dan and Gary Dale, Jim, Bud and Mike Dale, Doug and Joe Towery and Ben Boothe.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Jasper First Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Lewis officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Bob and Tony Payne, Jimmy and Harold Dale, Tim Boothe and Doug and Joe Towery. Piedmont Mountainside Auxiliary were honorary pallbearers. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to Jasper First Baptist Church. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.


Todd Pendley

Mr. Todd Pendley, age 38 of Tate, passed away at his residence, Sunday, July 22, 2012.                          Survivors include his grandmother, Jean Pendley, Talking Rock; son, Zack Pendley, Canton; brothers, Shane Pendley, Jasper, and Morgan Pendley, Hinton Community; and sister; Heather Pendley, Tate. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Talking Rock Baptist Church with the Revs. Buck Parker and Robert Allen officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jerry, Ricky and Phillip Wofford, David Pendley, Scott Reece, Matthew Morris and Mitchell Bozeman. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to Cagle Funeral Home to help with the funeral expenses.


Ola Leikert

Mrs. Ola M. Quinn Leikert, age 83 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Saturday night, July 28, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Survivors include her brother, Joseph Marrett, Conyers, Ga.; sisters; Nannie L. Gunn, Cleveland, Ga., and Inez Cox, Jasper; and grandchildren, Danielle and Allison Gallow. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, at Mount Bethel Church of God in Toccoa with the Revs. Lewis Jarvis and Larry Phillips officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Gene, Sam and Lewis Willbanks and Elliott, Eric, Mike, Phillip and Randy Merritt. The family requests in lieu of flowers make donations to Mount Bethel Church of God in Toccoa. John Heilig

John Paul Heilig of Jasper, Ga., and formerly of Gainesville and Augusta, Ga., died suddenly in a motorcycle accident July 26, 2012.

He was employed as a radiology tech in Cartersville, Ga.  Born in Fairless Hills, Pa., on Jan. 23, 1960, he was the son of the late Paul and Marie Heilig.                          John was the father of Elizabeth and Paul Heilig and the grandfather of Micah.

He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Buz Campbell, Gainesville; brother and sister-in-law, James and Joanne Heilig, Langhorne, Pa.; brother, Joseph, Gainesville; and his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Reed, Flowery Branch, who raised John after the passing of his mother.

Services were held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Flowery Branch, at 11 a.m. on August 1 with inurnment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery.
