July 4th Schedule for Jasper


Since 1949 the Jasper Lions Club has developed and sponsored each year the Independence Day Celebrations in Pickens County. Proceeds realized by the club are used for their many community service projects.

10:00 A.M.  - Parade  on Main Street, Wednesday, July 4th


The parade will begin at the intersection of South Main Street and West Spring Street, continue north on Main Street; turn left on College Street; turn left on Mark Whitfield Street; turn right on Stegall Drive and end at Lee Newton Park.

Parade Participants will include Parade Grand Marshal Rev. Von Hinton, decorated floats and autos, antique cars, fire engines, heavy trucks, riders on horseback and much more.

Lion Allen Wigington is Chairman of the parade committee and Jasper Lion Past Council Chairman Mark Miller will be the MC of the parade.

Judges for the floats in the parade this year will be: Past District Governor Lion Earl Culberson and Lion Joyce Culberson of the Adairsville Lions Club, Past District Governor Lion Scott Warren and Lion Nanette Warren of the Woodstock Lions Club. We are delighted they will be with us.

11:00 A.M. The Town Band conducted by Dr. Carl McCurdy will

get activities underway at the Lee Newton Park pavilion stage.

11:30 A.M.  Opening Ceremony at the pavilion stage and will include flag ceremonies and a 21-gun salute by members of the Honor Guard of local chapter 47 of the Disabled American Veterans.  The Town Band will play the National Anthem

12:00 Noon - BINGO OPENS

There will be several vendors in the park, games for the children and the ever-popular BINGO beginning at noon on the Chamber of Commerce building patio.

12:30 - Entertainment begins at the Pavilion bandstand.

10:15 P.M. (Approximately) Grand Finale

Fireworks generally conclude Independence Day celebration and we want to have some this year, but they are expensive.  Lion Peggie Chapman found sponsors who would finance this and we appreciate their willingness to donate funds.

Peachtree Rides Midway will be open from June 28 to July 8 - Monday-Friday from 5 to 10pm; Saturday- Sunday from 1 to 6pm.  Coupons are available around town for a reduction of $5 from the regular price of $20.

Why is it the candidate incumbents got first recognition as sponsors? There names are no more important than the others who contributed. And quite frankly that is kind of ridiculous.
