Jones, Weaver go head to head at forum

At last night's commissioner debate, held at the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce, commission chair candidates Rob Jones and Wesley Weaver went head to head about key issues in the county. In next week's full story on the debate we will do fact checking on some of the accusations made, and cover other comments from District 1 and District 2 candidates.

Whoever wins, I do hope one of their first priorities is to help move forward resurfacing of the deteriorating secondary roads in the county, as budget allows of course...Our road is patched 4 or 5 times a year and looks like the surface of the moon!

I agree Allen, It seems that the roads continue to worsen. If you call and complain it usually takes over a week to get any results. The gravel roads are rutted and full of potholes. The secondary paved roads resemble an obstacle coarse. The section of Camp rd from the jail to Refuge is TERRIBLE. Try driving across the mountain on Henderson Mtn. Although I think that Mr. Jones has had his time to fix these roads. But he is to busy pulling crews to put on his other projects. Polishing Turds.

You get what you pay for.

At least you have roads that the county will fix. Most of the secondary roads in Pickens County are easements. They deliberately let people sell property like this so that the county didn't have to pay for any road work. Pickens County also taxes people living on easements, with no services or road repair at the rate of others living on paved roads with full county services. Roads are not something this county has ever cared about. They save money by not having to address it.
