Jasper ArtFest is ready to cover Main Street, Jasper. The event will be held this weekend, April 21-22. If you attended last year, you can testify that the event attracted many. It was estimated that 5,000 to 7,000 art lovers perused the fine arts, listened to great music and enjoyed a cornucopia of food.
PACA, Pickens Arts and Cultural Alliance, organized the creation of the ‘World’s Largest Kudzu basket.’ We are hoping that the basket will make an encore appearance this year. They have another project in the works so you need to come and join in. Creative chalk drawings graced the street. Tater Patch players hit the pavement with a ‘Flash Mob’ and the Performing Arts Academy performed as well.
That wasn’t all. On Saturday, the south end of Main Street hosted the Art of the Auto. Antique cars of all kinds were on display. On Sunday, we had a slightly different venue on south Main. The fire trucks and big rig semi-trucks found kids, young and old, enjoying a seat and great photo op at the wheel.
If you missed this event last year, you have another chance to enjoy. We will be having variations of all of the above activities. I am not going to go into detail, because I want you to come and enjoy for yourself. The entry is free. Saturday hours are 10-5 and Sunday will be 10-4. We hope that you will come and support the efforts of not only the artists but your city of Jasper and Pickens County. We have a growing art community that is a definite asset to our county. Hope to see you there! www.jasperartfest.org
