Mrs. Kristina Ellen Prather, age 64 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Monday, March 26, 2012, at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born on Dec. 2, 1947, in Talbotton, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Allene Olsen and was also preceded in death by a grandson, Garland Anthony Prather. Mrs. Prather worked as a hairdresser for 53 years, having last worked at the Hair Hutch in Jasper before retiring. She was a cancer survivor and was also a member of Refuge Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James William Prather, Jasper; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Tod Goss, Tate, Ga.; sons, Tony and Jeff Prather, both of Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janie and James Willis, West Point, Tn., Mary Parker, Jacksonville, Fl., Elizabeth Harvey, Jasper, Elaine and Bill Forrester, Gainesville, Ga., and C.C. and Marty Messmer, Ellijay, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert Jr. and Frances Olsen, Jasper; and best friends, Barbara Holbert, JoAnn Norton and Mary Jane Reid. Thirteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 29, from Refuge Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Johnson, Ricky Jarrett, and Claude Smithmire officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Cory, Benjamin and Cameron Goss, Kelvin and Byron Prather and Chris Buckner. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Shirley Rebecca Warren, age 76 of Jasper, Ga. died Friday, March 30, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper following a period of declining health.
Born July 8, 1935, in Fannin County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Lee Etta Deaver Warren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa (Pam) Johnson. Ms. Warren had worked as the MATS coordinator for Pickens County and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Blairsville, Ga.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandy Mayfield, Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Stephanie Owenby, Jasper; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Shelbia and Sam Bennett, Canton, Ga.; and brother and sister-in-law Neal and Judy Warren, Woodstock, Ga. Three nieces, two nephews, several great-nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 2, at Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Tatum officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Jason Mayfield, Matthew Johnson, Alan Owenby, Steve Stanley, Sammy Bennett and Joe Warren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, Ga. 30143.
