Mr. Barry Dean Turner, age 50 of Jasper, Ga., passed away March 9, 2012.
Born on Jan. 7, 1962, in Pickens County, Ga., Mr. Turner worked as a laborer in the landscaping business.
Survivors include his mother and step-father, Wanda and Harvey Buchanan, Ball Ground, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Delenna and Sammy Allen, Ball Ground; niece, Kendra Allen, Ball Ground; special friend and her children, Thelma Brumbelo and Lee and Paul Brumbelo, all of Jasper; and step-sister and her children, Judy Holden and Shannon and Missy Holden, all of Jasper. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Turner.
At his request, Mr. Turner was cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m. at his mother’s residence in Ball Ground. Roper Funeral Home in Jasper in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Paulette Kent Parker, age 62 of Marble Hill, passed away late Wednesday night, March 14 2012, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Paulette lived her entire life on Steve Tate Road in Marble Hill.
Survivors include her husband, Perry Parker, Marble Hill; daughter, Katie Parker, Marble Hill; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mary Fran Kent, Ball Ground; and sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Ronnie Foster, Gainesville. She was preceded in death by her parents; Paul and Mable Kent; and brothers, Paul Glenneth Kent and David Kent.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 17, from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Leroy Kelley, Steve Chadwick and Joey Watson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tony Kent, Gary Brooks, Michael Foster, Robert Brown, William Blackwell and Ricky Curtis. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lucile Pettigrew, age 91 of the Bethany Community, passed away Friday afternoon, March 16, 2012, at her residence.
Mrs. Pettigrew was preceded in death by her husband, Fayne Pettigrew. Survivors include her brother, Mack Martin, Jasper; and sister, Jane Watkins, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Easterwood; and sister, Victoria Teague.
The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, from Salem Baptist Church with the Revs. Eugene Childers, Kenneth Kirk, Bobby McFarland and Tommy Teague officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Aaron Ingram, Gene Henderson, Joe Fernandez, Russell and Scotty Pendley, Scott Moody, Van Williams and Grady Evans. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to Georgia Mountains Hospice. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lela Duncan, age 97 of Jasper, passed away Friday morning, March 16, 2012, at her residence.
Survivors include her daughter, Ovaline Duncan, Jasper. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 18, from th Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Von Hinton officiating. Interment followed in Old Damascus Church Cemetery in Cherokee County. Pallbearers were: Mike Dean, Kenneth Lathem, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Chadwick, Bobby Haygood, Johnny Turner, Phillip Cagle and Bud Reece.
Carole Lou Ann (Scurry) Sobota went to Heaven on March 14, 2012. She was 69 years old, a mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Raymond Miller, Illinois; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Kristine Scurry, Jasper, Ga.; and daughter, Tina Scurry, Cumming, Ga. She is also survived by her five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Beulah Skinner; and her husband, Tony Scurry.
Carole was originally from Franklin, Pa., and relocated to Jasper 22 years ago. A memorial service will be held later in April.
Michael “Mike” Duncan, age 62 Chickamauga, Ga., died Sunday, March 18, 2012, in a local hospital.
He had lived in Florida before moving to North Georgia 17 years ago. Mr. Duncan had resided in Jasper, Chatsworth and Chickamauga, Ga. He was a member of Chickamauga First Baptist Church. Mr. Duncan was a nursing supervisor for NHC Rossville and was preceded in death by his father, Esker Duncan, Sr.; and brother, Richard Esker Duncan, Sr.
Survivors are his loving wife of nine years, Zerita Duncan; sons, Shawn Duncan, Chickamauga, and Shane (Stephanie) Duncan, Jasper; daughter, Amanda Gmyrek, Chickamauga; step-daughter, LaWanda Neighbors, Chickamauga; and grandchildren, Leah Duncan, Alex Gmyrek, Tanner Neighbors, Piper Duncan, Nicholas Neighbors and Willow Duncan.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Heritage Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.
Mr. Carl Kelley, age 77 of Ball Ground, passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at Heritage Hospice.
Mr. Kelley was a member of Sharp Mountain Baptist Church and the Nelson Masonic Lodge. He retired from Lockheed as an engineer.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Kelley; survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Kelley, Ball Ground; children, Mike (Tanya) Kelley, Cumming, Jeff (Bonnie) and Ronnie (Debbie) Kelley, all of Ball Ground; sister, Barbara (Kenny) Parker, Ball Ground; brothers, Tom (Jeanette) Kelley, Ball Ground, and Harold (Lois) Kelley, Canton; and sister-in-law, Jelane Kelley, Dawsonville. Eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, from Sharp Mountain Baptist Church with the Revs. Phillip Burt and Terry Caylor officiating. Interment followed in Macedonia Memorial Park. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
