Hugh Cooper, Jr.

Hugh D. Cooper, Jr., age 77 of Jasper, formerly of Norcross and Decatur, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at Heritage Healthcare in Jasper.

Mr. Cooper served 4 years in the USMC, he was a medical sales professional and a member of Jasper United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Cooper; mother, Cleo Heath Cooper; daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia (Bill) Cooper Brickell, Catherine (Chris) Cooper Rumble and Candace (Tommy) Cooper Myers; and grandchildren, Zachary and Kara Rumble, Katlyn, Miley, Shelby and Elsa Myers.

The funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 5, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Rumble officiating. Interment followed at GA National Cemetery.

Wayne Jones

Mr. Wayne Jones, age 65 of Nelson, passed away March 3, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Erika Jones, Nelson; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jeff Buck. Nelson; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Trena Jones, Cagle Town; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and T.J. Keener, Jasper; and grandchildren, Emily and Ashtyn Jones and Jeffrey, Savannah and Dalton Buck.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Cantrell and Von Hinton officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with local Chapter 47 DAV in charge of military rites. Pallbearers were: Jeff and Jeffrey Buck, Jeff Tucker, Brian and James Keener, Blake Byrd, David Bruce and Donnie Craig.

Evelyn Hicks

Evelyn Hamer Hicks, age 85 of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at her residence following a period of declining health.

Born Nov. 26, 1926, in Concord, N.C., to the late Arthur and Pearl Spry, she had lived in Dawson County for over a year having moved from Jasper, Ga.  Mrs. Hicks was a Registered Nurse who was formerly employed by Pickens County Public Health. Along with her first husband, she owned and operated restaurants which included Nolen’s Restaurant in Roswell, Townhouse Restaurant in Jasper and Nolen’s Cafeteria in Gainesville.  She was a member of the Tate Church of Christ and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Nolen D. Hamer.

Survivors include her husband, Pascal Hicks, Dallas, Ga.; children, Carole and Bill Pittman, Dawsonville, and Nolen and Peggy Hamer, Roswell; sister and brother-in- law, Arthurine and Richard Hammon, Kannapolis, N.C.; grandchildren, Christopher and Sally Hamer, Traci and Rob Jones, Cassie and Matthew Marini; and great-grandchildren, Ruthie and Chase Jones. A number of other relatives also survive.

A memorial service was held Friday, March 2, 3 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with  Dr. Jim Gaines officiating.

Donald Kirby

Mr. Donald Kirby, age 44 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Sunday, March 4, 2012. at his residence, following a sudden illness.

He was born Jan. 28, 1968, in Pickens County. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kelly Kirby. Mr. Kirby had work as a self-employed carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Kirby, Talking Rock; daughters, Ashley and Haley, both of Talking Rock; son, Tim and wife Hope, Ball Ground, Ga.;  mother, Wynelle Morris, Jasper; father, Douglas Kirby, Talking Rock; sisters, Rhonda Kirby, Jasper, Wendy Kirby, Marble Hill, Tracy Kirby, Ellijay, and  Kim Kirby, Jasper; and brothers, David Kirby, Jasper,  Jason Kirby, Talking Rock,  Dwayne and Dion Kirby, both of Jasper. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, at the Lake Forest Memorial Park Cemetery with Lee Sanders providing the eulogy. Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper in charge of arrangements.

Helen Eubanks

Mrs. Helen Burton Eubanks passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 28, 2012, at her residence in Jasper, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh E. Eubanks; and grandson, Chad Eubanks.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Donna Eubanks, Savannah, Randy and Christy Eubanks, Jasper, and Jeff and Lorenda Eubanks, Dawsonville; daughters and son-in-law, Diane Eubanks, Jasper, and Debbie and Ron Kinnaird, Franklin, Ky.; and sister, Bernice Burton Smith, Marietta. Seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Von Hinton and Larry Kelley officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Skip, Corey and Kyle Eubanks, Keith and Curtis Cowart and Allen Andrews. Honorary pallbearers were: Kenneth Aaron and Brent Burton.

Lorine McLendon

Mrs. Lorine McLendon, age 66 of Jasper, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, at Wildwood Health Care.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Priscilla Jordan and Danny Jordan, all of Ball Ground, and Tim Jordan, Talking Rock; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Tim Theobald, Ellijay, and Jeanene and Dave Laprade, Florida; and brother, Tommy Cox, Jasper. Fourteen grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren also survive.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Mayo officiating. Interment followed in Arbor Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Joseph Taylor, Joshua, Tyler, Lee, Christopher and Levi Jordan and Tony Jones. The family did accept flowers or donations may be made to help with funeral expenses.

Jean Mann

Jean E. Mann, age 81 of Jasper, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Heritage Health Care in Jasper.

Survivors include her son, Howard Mann, New York; daughters, Judy E. Mann and Lorry Siani, both of New York; and sister, Helen Hvizdak, Georgia. Five grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survives.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date in New York. The family requests in lieu of flowers donate to St. Judes Children Hospital. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

William Von Windeguth

`Mr. William H. Von Windeguth, age 74 of Jasper, died March 5, 2012, at home surrounded by family.

He was born Nov. 12, 1937, in Chicago, Il., the son of the late Clover and William T. VonWindeguth. He is survived by his wife, Angelina B. (Ann) Von Windeguth, married May 23, 1958.

He served in the Air National Guard then later turned to study and pursue his land surveying career. In 1995 he and his wife bought and ran an early education center (Kids Ahead, Inc.) which Ann continues to run.

William had two daughters, the late Cheryl Von Windeguth and Debbie Roxroat (Eddie) who survives him. He has three surviving grandchildren, Billy Burden, Steven Burden and April McDermott. He also has two great grandchildren, Tyler and Kameron.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at Roper Funeral Home. A memorial service will be 5: p.m. Friday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home. The family will accept flowers or those who desire may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, C/O Joan Sendling, Rt. 1, Box 299-8 ,Mt. Claire, W.V. 26408. Arrangements have been entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory.

Masonic Resolution on the death of Bro. Hugh Columbus Tatum

To the Worshipful Master, Warden and Brethren of Pickens Star Lodge #220 F&AM, Jasper, Ga.:

Whereas: On Feb. 22, 2012, it was the will of the Grand Architect of Heaven and Earth to call from labor to refreshment our beloved Brother Hugh Columbus Tatum;

Whereas: We, his brethren, feel keenly his absence from our midst and while we humbly bow to the will of our Infinite Creator, we desire to make a suitable memorial;

Therefore: Be it resolved that Pickens Star Lodge #220 F&AM express to the family of our departed brother deepest sympathy and wish to express our gratitude for his life of service among us.

Be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the bereaved family of our departed brother, a copy to be spread on our minutes and a copy to be published in the Pickens County Progress.
