William “Emory” Sexto, age 77 of Ball Ground, Ga., passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at his residence.
He was a truck driver for Canton Wholesale Company and a member of Waleska Road Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Sexton. Survivors include his sons, Roger (LaDonna) Sexton, Canton, Melvin (Beth) Sexton, Woodstock, and Lonnie (Nancy) Sexton, Ball Ground; and sisters, Janice Newberry, Smyrna, Joyce Wigley, Cumming, Nancy Knight, Dawsonville, and Diane Carnes, Cumming. Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Revs. Jeff Garland, Daniel McCoy, Bobby Segers, Wallace Cochran and Lamar Frady officiating. Entombment followed at Cherokee Memorial Park. www.thescfh.com
Mrs. Grace Sutherland, age 82 of Ball Ground, passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Northside Cherokee Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Wesley Sutherland; son, James Sutherland; and daughter, Sue Sutherland.
Survivors include her children, Troy, Paul, Wayne, David and Willie Sutherland, all of Jasper, Junior and Steve Sutherland, both of Ellijay, Betty Hancock, Waleska, and Dorothy Pendley, Ball Ground; and siblings, Claude Honea, Indiana, JC Honea, Carrollton, Mary Honea, Jasper, and Addie Jane Honea, Augusta. Several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, from Long Swamp Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Maddox officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Sosebee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. James Carlton Davis of Jasper, Ga., passed away Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Tammy Davis; sons, Erik, Uvan and Lee Davis, all of Jasper; brothers, Nathan Davis, Valerico, Fl., and George Davis, Phenix City, Al.; and sister, Laura Joyce, Mojave Valley, Az.
A memorial service will be held in Enterprize, Al., at a later date. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Daniel Eugene Lacy, age 34 of Marble Hill, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, in Fulton County, Ga., following a work related accident.
Born July 31, 1977, in Cobb County, Ga., Mr. Lacy worked for the Reener Company in the construction industry. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.
Mr. Lacy is survived by his son, Jackson Eugene Lacy, Cumming, Ga.; father and step-mother, David Eugene and Joanie Lacy, Marble Hill; step-son and step-daughter, Cody Christian and Kayla Johnson, both of Cumming, Ga.; brother, Gregory Olin Lacy, Marble Hill; grandmother, Lille Mae Lacy, Jasper; nephews, Gregory Bradford Lacy, Marble Hill, David William Lacy, Cole Alexander Wright and Joshua Bill Wright, all of Cleveland, Tn.; nieces, Skylar Michelle Lacy, Cleveland, Tn., and Sydney Sue Meadows, Dalton, Ga.; sister-in-law, Brittany Millbocker, Marble Hill; and cousin, Donnie Chastain Numerous cousins and other family and friends also survive. Mr. Lacy was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Chastain Lacy.
The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the interment following in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Hugh Tatum, age 94 of Tate, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Wildwood Healthcare in Talking Rock following a period of declining health.
Born May 10, 1917, in Jasper, Ga., he was the son of the late, John Homer and Eula Pearl Tatum. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Tatum.
Mr. Tatum worked for St. Regis Paper Company as a salesman. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and also a member of the Pickens Star Masonic Lodge #220 and Past Master of Tate Masonic Lodge #1945.
Hugh is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Harold Teague; and sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sandy Tatum and Tommy and Juanita Tatum, all of Pickens County; grandchildren, Josh and Hilary Tatum, Jasper, Jessie and Robert Ford, Macon, Ga., Rachel and Aaron Finch, Madison, Al., Casey and Ryan Shostak, LaGrange, Ga., and Jacob Tatum, Jasper; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Agatha Tatum; and brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Belle Tatum, of Swainsboro, Ga.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, from the First Baptist Church of Jasper. Dr. Jimmy Lewis and Rev. Von Hinton officiated with the interment following in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Roper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Joseph Gomes Ramilo, age 86 of Jasper, Ga., died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born August 25, 1925, in Portugal, he was the son of the late, Joao Gomes Ramilo and Laurinda Gomes Ramilo. Mr. Ramilo worked in the world trade industry.
Mr. Ramilo is survived by his wife, Maria Ramilo, Jasper,; daughters, Laurinda Otero (Gil), Jasper, and Lygia Eicher (Mark), Boston, Ma.; grandchildren, Damari Upton (Michael), Jamie Almonte (Joshua Doherty), Gilbert J. Otero (Jennifer), Michael Otero (Elizabeth), Kristin Eicher and Emma Eicher; and great-grandchildren, Shailey Wetmore, Matthew Upton, Thomas Wetmore, Isabel Upton, Alaina Upton, Gabrielle Wetmore, Brayden Wetmore, James Wesley Otero and Raphael Otero. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Byrd officiating. A reception followed the Memorial Service at Roper Funeral Home.
