Joan Arp

Ms. Joan Elizabeth Arp, age 63 of Jasper, Ga., passed away at her home on Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, after a sudden illness.

Born April 29, 1948, in Jasper, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Muriel Lena Mullins Thomason.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Smith; great-grandchild, Thomas Roper; brother, Otis Thomason; and sisters, Josephine Thomason and Marie Baker.

Ms. Arp had worked as a floral designer at Artistic Designs & Gifts.  She was also a member of the County Line Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Jennifer Arp, Canton, Ga.; grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron and Kyle Arp, Justice Lowe, Macey Roper and Lena Smith; great-grandchild, Brantley Roper; son-in-law, Jimmy Smith, Jasper, Ga.; sisters, Kathleen Wilson, Fairmont, Ga., and Geraldine Stewart and Nora Lee Bunch, both of the Hinton Community; and brothers, Daniel Thomason, Calhoun, Ga., and Homer Thomason, Lilburn, Ga.; Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, from County Line Baptist Church with the Rev. Jess Posey officiating. Interment followed at church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Craig Nicholson, Drew Thomason, Allen Baker, Brian Haley, Steve Roper, Aaron Arp, Donnie Simonton and Todd Patrick. Roper Funeral Home & Crematory of Jasper in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy Richards

James (Jimmy) Weldon Richards died Dec. 28, 2011, at the age of 76.

He loved NASCAR, country music and working on trucks.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Melba Denson Richards; daughter, Shawn and husband Ross Brown; brothers, Kenneth Richards, Canton, and Billy Sims, Ball Ground; and grandsons, Adam, Mason and Will. Friends, brothers and sisters-in-law also survive.

The service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home with burial at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.

L.A. McDaniel

Mr. L.A. McDaniel, age 92 of Jasper, Ga., departed this life Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, at Cartersville Medical Center.

Mr. McDaniel was born July 18, 1919, in Pickens County, Ga., a son of the late Licius and Gertrude Moss McDaniel. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mellene Anderson McDaniel; son, Larry McDaniel; brother, Elmer McDaniel; sisters, Estelle Higdon, Inez Gibson, Delphia Hughes and Wylene Clark.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Delmer and Belle McDaniel, Jasper; and special friend, Amy Bruce, Cartersville, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. from the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Chaplin Charles Moore and Rev. Lynn Pirkle officiating. He was laid to rest beside his wife at the Fain Cemetery with Steve and Keith Gibson, Jim Higdon, David Lawson, David Woodall, J.C. Boling and Leslie and Blake McDaniel serving as pallbearers.

Willie Mae Brown

Mrs. Willie Mae Brown, age 78 of Marble Hill, passed Jan. 22, 2012, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Debbie Brown and Keith Brown, all of Marble Hill; daughter, Diane Blackwell, Marble Hill; and sister, Dorothy Roberson, Marble Hill. Seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Bottoms and Phillip Burt officiating. Interment followed in Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Andy and Scotty Blackwell, Todd Brown, Greg and Damien Allen and Terry Cuzzort. Honorary pallbearer was Brian Brown.

William Headrick

Mr. William Edward Headrick, age 64 of Marietta, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012.

Mr. Headrick was born at Roper Hospital in Jasper, Ga.  He attended Osborne High School and Sprayberry High School. Mr. Headrick was a Mason at Kennesaw Lodge #33 and had worked at Lockheed for about 40 years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, being with his special dog, Deuce, and spending time with his family here and his family in Jasper.  Mr. Headrick was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward Headrick, Sr. and Julia Mullins Headrick.

He is survived by his wife, Tina Matthews, Marietta; son, William E. Headrick, III, Marietta; daughter, Tara Headrick, Marietta, step-daughters, Kathryn and Erin Matthews both of Marietta; sisters, Nancy Duncan, Joan Muellar, Denise Headrick and Cheryl Spivey; and grandchildren, Alexandra Mansfield and Austin, Hannah and Haley Headrick.

The funeral service will be  2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the Chapel of Carmichael Funeral Home in Marietta with the Rev. Jess Posey officiating. Burial will be in Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26,  and on Friday, Jan. 27, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Carmichael Funeral Home.
