Obituaries for January 12, 2012; Teresa Childers, James DeMay, Lanier Poole, Philip Patterson

Teresa Childers

Ms. Teresa Lynn Childers, age 57 of Jasper, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at her residence, following a sudden illness.

Born Feb. 7, 1954, in Pickens County, she was preceded in death by her mother, June Jones Childers. Teresa had last worked as a cashier at Zaxby’s Restaurant.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Cassie Woodward Logan (Chad), Jasper, and Mandy Woodward Blackstock (Eric), Calhoun, Ga.; grandchildren, Joseph and Carter Logan, Lance Blackstock, Samuel Logan and Lyndsey Blackstock; father, Doyle Childers, Dahlonega, Ga.; and brother and sister-in-law, Greg Childers (Connie), Dahlonega, Ga.

At her request, Ms. Childers was cremated and a memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Corey Rich officiating. The family requests that donations be made to CARES or to Good Samaritan.

James DeMay

Mr. James DeMay, age 56 of Ellijay, Ga., passed at his residence in Gilmer County Sunday Jan. 1, 2012.

Survivors include his daughters, Janet Collis, Talking Rock, and Jennifer Pettigrew, Jasper; and eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 6,  at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Rev. James Thomason officiated. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial  Park with  Will Farr, Nick Pettigrew and Randall, Jerry, Johnny and Larry Watkins serving as pallbearers.

Lanier Poole

Mr. Lanier Poole, age 67, of Jasper, Ga., died Sunday, January 8, 2012, following a brief illness.

Born August 21, 1944, in Gilmer County, Ga., he was the son of the late Dolphus S. and Rora Mae Moss Poole. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Leo Poole and Bob Poole.  Lanier had last worked at Royston and was of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry W. Poole, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law,  Jody and Katie Poole, Jasper, and Brian and Candace Poole, Talking Rock, Ga.; grandchildren, Jordan, Logan and Megan Poole, all of Jasper; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois Poole, Jasper, Cora Belle Chastain, Gainesville, Ga., Betty and Ray Ferrell and Hazel and Wallace Mullinax, all of Jasper;  and brother, Charles B. Poole, Jasper. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, from Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jess Posey and Tim Hyde officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park.

Philip Patterson

Mr. Philip Henry Patterson, Jr., age 85 of Jasper, passed away Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 13, 1926, to the late Philip Henry, Sr. and Loretta June Clever Patterson.  As a US Navy Veteran he served in World War II. Later he worked at WPBE Channel 2 in Miami, Fl.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Patterson, Jasper; daughters, Diane Absolom and husband Glen, Orchard Park, N.Y., Deborah Snow and husband Timothy, Jasper, and Carol Jeanne Wagnon and husband Steve, Atlanta; and son, Philip Clifford Petterson and wife Donna, Tallahassee, Fl. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Patterson.  Thirteen grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with the Rev. David LeGrande officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 1 until 3 at Roper Funeral Home.
