Bobby Payne, Jr.

V.R. “Bobby” Payne, Jr., age 75 of Canton, Ga., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Virl and Beatrice Payne, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalene Martha Payne, Canton; children, Brad Payne, Connie Harbin and Kay (David) Reece, all of Canton; grandchildren, Heath and Heather New, Tiffany Harbin and Jennifer Reece, all of Canton; and great-grandchildren, Ethan and Bryce New and Cole Cooper, Canton.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Rev. David Roper officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park.

George Staniech

Mr George Staniech, age 84 of Jasper, passed Tuesday afternoon July 26, 2011, at Heritage Health Care in Jasper.

Survivors include his sons, George W. Staniech, McKeesport, Pa., and David W. Staniech, Acworth,Ga.; and daughter, Cynthia A. Connelly, Ranger, Ga. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.

At the request of Mr. Staniech and his family his remains were cremated. The family requests that memorials be made to Heritage Health Care, 1350 East Church Street, Jasper, Ga. 30143 in Mr. Staniech’s memory. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Tammy Parker-Merritt

Ms. Tammy Parker-Merritt, age 42 of Jasper, passed late Wednesday evening, July 27, 2011, at Piedmont  Mountainside Hospital, Jasper.

Survivors include her parents, Thomas and Rebecca Merritt, Jasper; son, Travis Parker, Jasper; daughter, Christian Parker, Jasper; brothers and sister-in-law, Paul and Debbie Merritt, Ellijay, and David LeSesne, North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Patrick Stancil, Blairsville; and grandchildren, Emma Blackburn and Hunter Parker. Nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral service was held Saturday July 30, at 1 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Jerald Brown, Thomas Merritt and Mike Parham officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens with Chris Padgett, Robert Parker, William and David Ray, Chace and Patrick Stancil, Timmy West and Tommy Kelso serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Brad Biard. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.

Mac Romine

Mr. Mac Romine, age 67 of Jasper, passed early Thursday morning, July 21, 2011, at Heritage Health Care in Blue Ridge, Ga.

Survivors include his mother, Eunice Romine, Jasper; sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Lamar Carver, Jasper; nieces, Sandy and Bill Jordan and Stephanie and Jamie Boling; and great-nieces, Jordyn Hammontree, Taylor and Reagan Boling. Several additional nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

The funeral service was held Saturday, July 23, at 2 p.m. from Pleasant Hill Christian Church with Ministers Kasey Kuyper and Leo Beller officiating. Interment followed in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Bill Jordan, Jamie Boling, Larry Turner, Mike Boswell, Bruce Barden and Chris Romine. Honorary pallbearers were: Billy O’Shields, H.A. Holmes, Johnny and Virgil Chastain, Harold McDaniel, Jerry Stanfield, John Anderson, Kenny Massey, Charlie Long, Michael Chumley and Shane Moss. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

William Smith

Mr William C. (Tom) Smith, age 77 of Jasper, passed at his residence Tuesday morning, July 19, 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Smith, Jasper; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Debi Smith, Midland,Tx., and Phillip and Becky Smith, Big Spring,Tx., daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Chris Rose, Lubbock,Tx.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Bob Grizzle and Doris and Bryant Strickland, Ellijay. Twelve grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren also survive. Mr Smith was preceded in death by a son, Ervin Smith.

The funeral service was held Thursday, July 21, at 2 p.m. from Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Huey Holloway, Leroy Kelly and Cory Rich officiating. Interment followed in Lake Forest Memorial Park with Jimmy and Tim Smith, Bobby Joe Grizzle, Frankie James, Ronald Barnes, Wayne Wheeler, Johnny Bearden and Donnie Fowler serving as pallbearers. The family did accept flowers or memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James Taylor

James Allen Taylor of Jasper, Ga. went on to be with the Lord on July 30, 2011.

He leaves his wife, Annette, Jasper; sons, Michael and his wife Beth, Birmingham, Al., Tony and his wife Julie, Toccoa, Ga., Robert and his wife Peyton, Rock Hill, S.C., and Richard and his wife Teresa, Charlotte, N.C.; daughters: Joy, Villa Rica, Ga., and Kimberly and her husband Stan, Dallas, Ga.; seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Hazel, Lavonia, Ga.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. General Sevira (Lois Crump) Taylor.

The funeral service was held Tuesday August 2, at 3 p.m. from the Benson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Samples officiating. Interment followed in the New Hope Cemetery with grandson’s serving as pallbearers.

Mary Holcomb

Mary Jane Holcomb, age 66 of Jasper, passed on Friday, July 29, 2011.

Mrs. Holcomb was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and worked as an employee at the Bargain Barn for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Lamar Holcomb, Jasper; daughter, Rhonda Mechigian, Tennessee; sisters, Rachel Tatum, Canton, Vivian Matthews, Marble Hill, and Betty Butler, Chatsworth; and grandchildren, Kristi Barker and Britany DeBaker. Four great-grandchildren also survive.

A memorial service was held  Sunday, July 31, at 3 p.m. from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Bartholomew officiating. Flowers were accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Myron King

Myron Moree King, age 83 of Gray and Macon, has gone to Heaven to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ.

A celebration service of Mrs. King’s life was held at First Baptist Church of Gray on Tuesday, August 2, 2011, at 11 am. Burial followed at Rose Hill Baptist Church, 1641 Thigpen Trail, Hartsfield, Ga.

Mrs. King was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Colquitt County. She also lived in Dougherty and Pickens counties. She spent her life loving and serving others and was loved and cherished by all. Her children would say, “Everybody loves Mama.” She was a wonderful wife, mother, Nonnie, sister and aunt.

God blessed her with many artistic talents and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and painting; but most of all she liked playing with her little Pomeranian, Prissy. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Gray.

She was met in Heaven by her loved ones who were already there: her husband, Horace B. King; her mother and father, Joseph Lawry and Mary Elizabeth Moree; sisters, Alice Moree and Mary Pearl Thompson; brothers, Ernest and Elwood Moree; and son-in-law, Ronald T. Gold. Her sisters-in-law, Alice King, Earline Curley, Joyce Bevan, Annie Lora Moree and Lorrene Brown; and brothers-in-law, Truett Thompson, Walter Norman, Leroy Howell and Cecil Bowers also met her there; as well as her two dogs, Button and Sugar.

She is survived by one sister, Juanita Moree Norman; and by her children and their spouses, Dorothy King and Richard Combs, Gene L. and Glenda King and Kay King Gold. Her grandchildren and their spouses are Brent and Angela Whitfield, Kevin and Crystal King, Whitney  and Craig Evans, Kelly  and Brian Payne and Kimberly Combs. Her great-grandchildren are Gavin, Garrett and Camille Whitfield, Bennett and Caroline Evans, Rachel and Trevor Payne and Lexie and Ashlynn King. She also has sisters-in-law, Lillian Howell, Barbara Bowers and Mary King; brothers-in-law, Melvin King, Raymond King, Lew Bevan and Bob Curley; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Mrs. King loved flowers so anyone desiring to send flowers is welcome to do so. Bridges Funeral Home and Crematory in Gray has charge of arrangements.

Susan Walker

Mrs Susan L. Walker, age 98 of Jasper, passed early Sunday morning, July 31, 2011 at Canton Nursing Center in Canton, Ga.

Survivors include her niece and husband, Ann and Ben Evans, Fairmount; great-niece and husband, Kristy and Darrell Darby, Jasper; and great-nephew and wife, Kyle and Leeann Cochran, Ellijay.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, August 2, at 2 p.m. at the  Jasper City Cemetery with the Rev Edwin Goodwin officiating. Pallbearers were: Kyle Cochran, Darrell Darby and  Jake Ratcliff. Cagle Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
