Press release from Pickens Sheriff
On Monday, August 1, 2011, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of three missing children in the area of Refuge Road. It was discovered that three children, ages 12, 9 and 6, had walked into a wooded area and had been missing for almost 3 hours.
The Pickens Sheriff’s Office joined with the Pickens County Fire Department and Pickens County Emergency Medical Services to search the area. Through the use of public safety professionals from all sectors, private citizens and aerial support provided by the Georgia State Patrol, the children were located approximately ½ mile from the location where they were reported missing.
All three children were found unharmed and healthy. Each child was checked by Emergency Medical Personnel and then released to their parents.
Sheriff Donnie Craig stated “It was great to see our office working closely with all other public safety agencies throughout this event. The greatest thing to come from this is the fact that the children were returned safely to their parents.”
The search lasted for approximately 2 and ½ hours and consisted of more than 100 individuals.
