Housing market here still "ugly"


According to the most recent data, there are now 200 bank-owned homes in Pickens County, and one in every 398 homes is in foreclosure.

Those figures come from RealtyTrac, an online database of foreclosed, bank-owned and auction properties, and according to Ron Barnes, local associate broker for Prudential Georgia Realty, they illustrate a severely distressed market here.

“That’s really bad,” Barnes said. “Cherokee is even higher than that, but ours is considered very high.”
