David Berrong, age 22 of Jasper, died Sunday, May 1, 2011.
Survivors include Mom and Dad, Scotti and Larry Townsend, Jasper; sister, Jessica Berrong, Jasper; grandparents, Jeanette and Allen Wooten, Canton; and father, Derek Berrong, Canton. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
A memorial services was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 5, from the Chapel of the Darby Funeral Home.
Mr. John B. Lummus, age 93 of Ellijay, died Thursday, May 5, 2011.
Mr. Lummus was born on Feb. 14, 1918, in Cherokee Co. He is the son of the late Gordon and Agnus Heath Lummus. He worked as a manager for Combine Insurance Company after retiring from the US Air Force after serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was an emeritus member of Oak Bowery Lodge #81 F & AM, a member of the Coosawattee Shrine Club, and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Forsyth Co.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bud Cowart, Ball Ground, and Ann and Mack West, East Ellijay; 4 grandchildren; 9 great- grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, Mack and Gerry Lummus, Canton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Saturday, May 7, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Caylor officiating. Music was by Larry Davis, John Scott and Sandi McEleery. Pallbearers were: Joel and Sam Propes, Ty Edwards, Jarrett, Ryan and Jason Johnson and Landen Johnson. Interment was in the Ellijay City Cemetery. In memory of Mr. Lummus the family requests that donations be made to the Gates Chapel United Methodist Church, 4180 Gates Chapel Road, Ellijay, Ga. 30540.
Mr. Roy James Richards, age 66 of Japer, Ga., died Friday May 6, 2011.
Mr. Richards was born on Sept. 30, 1944, in Gilmer Co. He is the son of the late Carter and Martha Richards.
Survivors include his brothers, Coy and Jerry Richards both of Ellijay, and Edward Richards, Calhoun; sisters, Sue Evans, Calhoun, and Darlene Robertson, Marietta; and special friend, Dee Rackley, Jasper. Several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 12 at 4 p.m. from Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay with the Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Bernhardt Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Rev. John Emert, Jr.
Reverend John Merle “Big John” Emert, Jr., age 60 of Carrollton, Ga., passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
Rev. Emert was born in Columbus, Ga., on May 20, 1950, the son of the late John Merle Emert, Sr. and Mrs. Hallie Nay Emert. He was a pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy in Waleska, Ga. He enjoyed gospel music, helping others and assisting other churches in need.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bonnie Mason Emert, Carrollton; daughters, Mrs. Kimberly (Lamar) Atkinson and Mrs. Jennifer (David) Bearden, both of Temple, Ga.; sister, Ms. Barbara Emert, Locust Grove, Ga.; brother, Mr. Steven Emert, Tennessee; four grandchildren, John Andrew and Michael Garrett Atkinson and Hollie Marie and Sarah Lynn Bearden; and sister-in-law, Ms. Brenda Mason, Carrollton, Ga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Rev. Emert is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mr. John Merle Emert, Sr. and Mrs. Hallie Nay Emert.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, May 11, at 4 p.m. from the Oak Hill Church of God of Prophecy in Temple with Bishop Billy Adams and Rev. Barry George officiating. Rev. Emert did lie in state from 3-4 p.m. at the church on Wednesday. Interment followed at the Oak Hill Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David Bearden, Lamar Atkinson, Selt and David Setser, Danny Kiker, Greg Smith, Dwayne Maner, Rob Hutto, John Andrew and Michael Garrett Atkinson.

Jewell Allred Moore, age 85 of Marietta, died Friday, May 6, 2011.
Mrs. Moore was a native of Pickens County and lived her young life in Cherokee County. She moved to Cobb County in 1951. She was the personnel manager for Woolworth Department store in Town and Country Shopping Center from 1956 until she retired in 1988. She was a member of Pleasant Union Baptist Church. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Henry Moore.
Survivors include her sisters, Mae Bennett, Canton, and Ada Martin, Marietta. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m from the Chapel of Marietta Funeral Home, Marietta, with the Rev. Franklin McPherson officiating. Interment followed in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
