Submitted by the Sassafras Literary Exchange
The annual Creative Writing Contest for Youth for middle and high school students who reside in Pickens County is coming to an end on Friday, April 1st. The Sassafras Literary Exchange is sponsoring this contest. Students wishing to enter should have their entries turned in by the end of that school day. Home schooled and alternate education students may turn their material in to the Pickens County Library.
An entry blank to attach to the entries will be available through the library or from language arts teachers at either the high school or the middle schools.
Entries can be submitted in either fiction, non-fiction or poetry. There is a 1500 word maximum on both fiction and non-fiction. Poetry entries should be 50 lines or less. Typed, double-spaced entries are preferable but hand written entries will be accepted.
The student's name must not be on their work. Names must be hidden from view on a folded entry blank. Names are only revealed after the works are judged. High school and middle school entries are judged separately.
This contest, in its 30th year, is a good opportunity for middle school and high school students to demonstrate the writing and commutative skills that everyone hopes that they have learned after many, many hours of instruction and practice.
