Steve Carter, age 60 of Talking Rock, died Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at his residence.
He was a self-employed roofer, a U.S. Navy Veteran, a member of Coosa River Basin Initiative Canoe Club and was of Protestant faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Aubrey “Nick” Carter.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Carter, Talking Rock; sons, Waylon (Patti) Carter, Canton, and Justin (Krissy) Carter, Jasper; daughter, Stephanie (Jeremiah) Robinson, Canton; mother, Barbara Jean Carter, Eatonton; and brothers, Aubrey Carter, Eatonton, and Allen Carter, Mableton. Six granddaughters, four grandsons and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 4, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with Brother Larry Edmondson and Brother Robert Matthews officiating. Yvonne “Bonnie” Anderson, age 57 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Cartersville Medical Center.
Survivors include her mother, Lillian and Harold Cottrell, Acworth, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Nancy Anderson, Jasper; brothers, Richard Cottrell, Ball Ground, Ga., and Lanny Cottrell, Acworth, Ga.; sister, Sherry Folsom, Cartersville, Ga.; and grandchild, Jade Anderson, Jasper.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, from the Darby Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Donald Teague and Keith Teague officiating. Interment followed in the Union Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Debbie Lynn Dunn Wilson, age 51 of Blue Ridge, Ga., formerly of Ellijay, died Monday Feb. 28, 2011.
Mrs. Wilson was born on October 24, 1959 in Atlanta, Ga. She is the daughter of the late Eugene Dunn and Jean Kinsey Dunn. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son, Shane Wilson, and his fiancée, Terrie Gibby, Fairmount, Ga.; granddaughter, Courtney Wilson; brothers and sister-in-law, Donnie and Shelia Dunn, Dalton, Ga., and Anthony Dunn, Ellijay; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dawn Dunn and Ray Gober, Blue Ridge, Darlene and Mark Scott, Acworth, Ga., Denise and Dwayne Daves, Ellijay, and Sherrie Harris and David Roper, Ranger. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held Thursday, March 3, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Gober officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Mike Davis, Hoyt and Randy Kinsey, Charles Sission, Preston Atkins and Todd Harrison.
Mrs. Ruby Webb Daly, age 88 of Progress Road Ellijay, died Monday, Feb. 28, 2011.
Mrs. Daly was born August 25, 1922, in Gilmer County, the daughter of the late Tom and Grace Ledbetter Webb. During WW II she worked for Bell Aircraft Corp at Marietta, Ga., and at Wright Airfield, Dayton, Oh., assembling radios for the B-29 Bombers. Also while in Ohio she did work for Phillips on the first TV’s. In 1962 she received the highest score, 603, in the state of GA for the LPN test. She worked as a nurse for over 25 years. She was a member of AA for over 30 years and was the founder of the Ellijay AA Group. Mrs. Daly was also a member of the Liberty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Daly.
Survivors include her sons, Pat Daly, Ellijay, and Mike Daly, Jasper; and daughter, Patricia Jones, Blue Ridge. Four grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service was held Thursday March 3, at 11 a.m. from the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with Minister Butch Jones officiating. Pallbearers were: Stacy, Ryan and Wesley Jones, Nick and Nicholas Holden and Randy Miller.
Mr. Thomas Alan Jaynes, age 59 of Helen Lane Ellijay, died Friday March 4, 2011.
Mr. Jaynes was born on Nov. 4, 1951, in Kingsport, Tn. He is the son of the late Arthur Kenneth Jaynes, Jr. and Frances Dunn Jaynes. He was a store manger for Save-A-Lot in Jasper, Ga. He was also a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife, Rebecca Jaynes, of the home; son, Arthur Kenneth Jaynes IV, Ellijay; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Jaynes. Ellijay; and mother-in-law, Mary Ellen Hancock, Fort Mill, S.C.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 7, at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Rubin Smith officiating.
Randy Howell, age 45 of Waleska, Ga., passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Embracing Hospice.
Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josie Howell.
Survivors include his brothers, Roger Howell, Jasper, and Robert Howell, Jacksonville, Fl.; sister, Judy Lynn White, Oak Ridge, Tn.; nieces, Emily and Madison Howell and Brittany White; and nephew, Braden Belew. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, from the Chapel of South Canton Funeral Home with the Revs. Trammell Rhodes and Jimmy Gayton officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Coy J. (Rachett) Matthews, age 72 of Talking Rock, Ga., passed at the residence early Saturday morning, March 5, 2011.
Survivors include his children, James, Ricky and Charlotte; step-children, Doug, Wendell, Gina and Wanda; brothers, Eugene Robert Matthews, Canton, and Phillip Don Matthews, Talking Rock; and sisters, Elizabeth Goble, Jasper, and Ellen Matthews and Essie Faye Godfrey, both of Talking Rock. Nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie.
The funeral service was held Monday, March 7, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Ron Matthews and Steve Chadwick officiating. Interment followed in Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dustin Kell, Jon Jarrett, Josh Cantrell, Eben and Anthony Matthews and Bud Payne. The family did accept flowers; however, they desire that memorials be made to Cagle Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
Mr. Alan Munsch, age 61 of Jasper, passed away Monday, March 7, 2011, at his residence.
Survivors include his mother, Agnes Munsch, Union Dale, N.Y.; son, Matthew Munsch, Jasper; daughters and son-in-law, Jackie and Jason Crowe, Jasper, and Tara and Kim Munsch, both of New York; step-daughters, Donna and Ryan Wilson and Stacey and Robert Cantrell, all of Jasper; sister, Marie Bowen, Pennsylvania; 9 grandchildren, Courtney, Meghan, Alex, Jessica, Jeanne, Sierra, Dustin, Phillip and Mason.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, from the Chapel of Cagle Funeral Home with the Revs. Ryan Wilson and Keith Cook officiating. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were: Mark and Johnny Parker, Ikey Scales, Lane Godfrey, Phillip Wilson and Robert Cantrell. The family did accept flowers but prefer donations to help with the funeral expenses.
Mr. Ronald Dennis Moore, age 67 of Talking Rock, Ga., died Monday, March 7, 2011, at his residence, with his loving family by his side, after his battle with cancer.
Born August 10, 1943, in Zebulon, Ga., he was preceded in death by his father, William Frank Moore. Mr. Moore was a United States Army veteran and had retired from Delta Airlines. After his retirement, Mr. Moore had worked as a flight engineer with Polar Air Cargo.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Rachel (Babin) Moore, Ellijay, Ga.; daughter, Kelly Campbell, Woodstock, Ga.; son, Grady Moore, Marietta, Ga.; mother, Lois Juanita Moore, Griffin, Ga.; grandchildren, Charlie and Gus Campbell, both of Woodstock, Ga., Katy, Kyla, Nathan and Anaiah Moore, all of Woodstock, Ga.; sister, Ginger Combs, Mountain City, Tn.; and brothers, Randy and Reggie Moore, both of Griffin, Ga. Nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.
At his request, Mr. Moore was cremated and a memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sharon Watkins will officiating. The entombment of the cremains will follow at 2 p.m. Friday, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Ga., with military honors. Annie Ruth Ledford
Mrs. Annie Ruth Ledford of the Tate Community, age 78, passed away Feb. 23, 2011. Services were held Saturday from the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home, Jasper, Ga., with Pastors Harold Bottoms and Michael Mize officiating.
Ruth was born on March 22, 1932, to Franklin Leonard and Eula Hammontree Bruce. She grew up in Marble Hill, Ga., and married the love of her life, J.W. “Shorty” Ledford who predeceased her in 2006 after more than five decades of marriage. As a homemaker, she was an expert quilter and her elaborate designs resulted in beautiful quilts that are now in the homes of relatives and friends.
She was an active member of Marble Hill Baptist Church as well as a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Gary Ledford (Annette), and grandson, Eric Ledford, of the Tate Community; sisters, Betty Byess (Bill), Shirley Chumley Forrest (Tracy), Violet Morrison and Gail Garrison (Tommy); and special sister-in-law, Edith Heath. Brothers include Gene Bruce (Eliana) and Roy Bruce (Paulette). A brother, James Bruce, predeceased her in 1990. Several special nieces and nephews and many loving friends also survive.
Interment followed the service at Four Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: David Byess, Ramon Cook, Michael Garrison and Barry, Kenny and Tommy Heath.
Mrs. Marie Timms, age 74 of Waleska, Ga., entered God’s Heavenly Kingdom Monday morning, March 7, 2011, at Heritage Hospice in Marietta, Ga.
Marie was born Feb. 8, 1937, in Jasper, Ga., a daughter of the late Joe and Elvie Barrett Young. She was also preceded in death by her son, Danny Timms; daughter, Brenda McArthur; and brothers, Hurley and Marvin Young.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Susan Timms, Talking Rock, Ga., and Lee and Allyson Timms, Waleska; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Tony Rogers, Chatsworth, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Perline and Irbin Noles and Linda and Carl Tanner, all of Jasper; and grandchildren, Josh, Kaley, Chasity, Anthony, Carrie, Doug, Daniel Dillon and Emma. Six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, March 10, at 2 p.m. from the Fairmount Chapel of Ponders Funeral Home with Pastor Andy Lands officiating. She will be laid to rest at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
