Two people are dead and one is hospitalized following a triple shooting last night in the Whitestone area. Chief Deputy Joe McDonald with the Pickens Sheriff said the shootings occurred on Whitestone Road, just inside the Gilmer line. According to McDonald, a man later identified as Charles W. Givens, came to the Pickens jail about 12:30 a.m. Monday morning to turn himself in, saying he had shot three people at his residence. Pickens deputies detained Givens away from other inmates, contacted 911 and proceeded to the location. Once there they discovered three gunshot victims and relayed the information to Gilmer County, as the residence was just inside their jurisdiction. A statement from the Gilmer Sheriff’s office is expected later today. Givens has since been transferred to the Gilmer jail. McDonald said he assumes the shooter came to the Pickens jail as it was closer to his home. Video from the jail showed Givens talking on a cell phone in the parking lot before coming inside, the chief deputy said. McDonald said the suspect waited calmly at the counter until his turn came and then “was pretty calm” relaying the information. |
