538 players go out for Rec. Department t-ball, softball and baseball

Opening Day ceremonies coming March 26

Pickens County Rec. Dept.'s Opening Ceremony for the baseball, softball and t-ball season will be held at Roper Park Saturday, March 26 at 10 a.m.

ETC will be sponsoring this event, providing games and prizes for the kids, coaches, and parents. Keith LaSalle will be performing the National Anthem.

Recreation Department Director Melinda Goss expressed thanks to the longtime sponsor of opening day ceremonies.

This free event usually sees a large crowd of players, parents and friends watching the parade of teams and other events.

This year, however, the large crowd could cause problems as

back parking lots will be closed due to the construction taking place on the new gym.

Additional parking is available at the middle school across the street.

Goss said she was very excited about this season, which sees a steady number of kids from years past. This year 538 kids are playing in the program.

Of these, 177 kids are playing t-ball, 174 boys - baseball and 187 girls for softball.

"The program has been about the same [numbers] for the past couple of years," she said.

Coaches have already conducted a skills evaluation, drafted and teams began practices this week.
